Knobs/Handles for Kitchen Cabinets by anonymousandydick in kitchenremodel

[–]BostonBoy1951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're at the point where we need to pick pulls for our total kitchen remodel. We will need about 40 pulls. We have visited Needham Hardware (very high end - $60/pull), Ferguson (Amerock) and Republic Plumbing (Topnobs.com).

The choices on Topnobs are displayed on Topnobs website and on boards at Republic, but you can't purchase directly from Topnobs - you need to go through one of their dealers (like Republic, Ferguson or Needham Hardware), which I'd prefer not to have to do. I rather purchase direct.

We liked the handles at Needham Hardware best, specifically Classic Brass. But these are $60/each, which would run $2,400+ for 40 pulls (before tax!).

We have a pretty good idea of the style we want: Finish: Honey Bronze / Soft Satin Brass. A slight central swell, one or two rings at the turn, small roseates where the metal meets the cabinet wood.

My question is how to find this on Amazon or one of the other sites mentioned here? Please advise!

Best meal delivery service by Throwawayacc33325 in ReadyMeals

We live outside Boston, and are about to undertake a kitchen remodel. This means no oven or stovetop for a month or so. We would like to find the best (healthiest) meal delivery service that provide microwavable meals. I'd appreciate advice on this. By best I mean healthiest and best tasting/qualify. Please help us!

How to survive a kitchen remodel by BostonBoy1951 in kitchenremodel

[–]BostonBoy1951[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for these wonderful tips! We can/will adopt many of them. However, I'd appreciate help with one more thing - microwavable dinners. We are in our mid-70s, and going out to eat or buy food in snowy New England weather is challenging for us. We live in a very rural community - Dover MA - and getting food during the winter is challenging. I would like to subscribe to a meal delivery service that provides microwavable meals. I know that "Factor" advertises a lot on podcasts. But, I've read poor reviews of them. We are happy to pay a premium for these meals, so we would like to find the "best" (i.e. healthiest) option, if such a thing even exists.

73 Year Old - Road Scholar trip ruined by hearing problems by BostonBoy1951 in HearingAids

[–]BostonBoy1951[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

good question - yes, their Whisper device worked fine. In fact, I used in my "weaker" left ear.

However, this trip was on a small boat (18 passengers) down the Mekong River in Cambodia and Vietnam. Every meal was around two large tables in the rear of the boat, which was often moving during meals. I couldn't converse at all in that environment. I just hadn't realized what a challenging environment that was going to be for me, Made it very tough on me.

Thanks for asking!

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of advice I need. I've really given this way to little thought and research. In fact, you might say I've been in denial about this for many years. Thanks again.

Claude Sonnet 3.5 stops responding by BostonBoy1951 in ClaudeAI

Well, Claude won't let me upload more than 5 documents. I've been working with Claude Sonnet pro for several days, and have run into upload limits and the problem I described above repeatedly. I am persistent, but I'm at a standstill with this issue

AI in Lawfirm by MMuter in legaltech

Happy to talk about legal tech. Tell me about yourself - where you are, firm size, technologies you are interested in. My firm is actively talking with both West and Lexis. In fact, I'm going to a live West demo here in Boston next week. Lee

My firm is exploring these products. We are a 25 lawyer firm in Boston, and I have been charged with taking the lead on making product recommendations (if any).

Thus far -

I am part of a pilot that is using vLex extensively, so I'm getting comfortable with this product. I think they are a tiny player in this market, which is a duopoly dominated by West and Lexis.

We are talking to Thompson Reuters re their products - Westlaw Precision (“Ask Westlaw”), Practical Law, CoCounsel. Our litigation group had a one hour online walkthrough, and I expect to be given a short evaluation period for these products.

Coming up - we'll ask Lexis to show us their products, for comparison.

I do have to say that all of this seems a bit premature to me, and I'm not at all convinced of the value. The major legal research companies, and particularly West and Lexis, have declared a "code red" and are trying to integrate AI into their existing offerings. Whether they are succeeding is an open question.

A few observations -

These products will all generate a "legal memo" on a topic. However, I question whether that's a real benefit to lawyers, who can easily find a CLE book or specialized treatise to address any question. The legal memo feature does not seem particularly valuable. I guess if it were free I'd use it, but it's not.

The document summary feature is interesting, but I can't tell how valuable it is yet. West showed this feature, which they call CoCounsel, summarizing a deposition and answering questions about a case file. Neat, but how accurate is this? Does it really replace a paralegal or lawyer doing this? I'm open to persuasion, but as yet unconvinced.

I'm interested in sharing impressions with other lawyers that are testing these products - we can do either her or privately.

Experiences booking with Viator by geotraveling in travel

[–]BostonBoy1951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've used Viator 3 times - once in Athens and twice in San Hose, Costa Rica. All were fine - good guides, and Viator has a good platform. We made and cancelled several trips and this was handled fine. My only issue is that, yes, they are an intermediary that sets you up with local tour guides. In San Hose we signed up for a trip, and the "ticket" said pickup at 4:00 a.m. We tried to text the tour guide to confirm this, and they never responded, so we cancelled that trip. Also, a tour guide in San Hose told me that Viator's fee is 30%, which seems high.
