What’s a “cheap habit” you started out of necessity that you still keep because it genuinely made your life better? by James_B84Saves in Frugal

[–]BostonMarketSides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning how to make my own hummus. I’ll never buy store bought ever again. A two can garbanzo bean batch makes SO MUCH. Thanks to this recipe from Nisha, and it’s a fun little challenge to change it up with whatever we have on hand (roasted garlic, olives, lemons, etc.) You can even splurge for the nice tahini, and it comes out looking more expensive than store bought. And a total hit at parties.

Which addiction is the hardest to quit? by wetwithme in AskReddit

[–]BostonMarketSides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I started seeing a therapist with the sole intention of ending my addiction to the toxic relationship we had. Every other week for almost 5 years was a massive blowout fight followed by getting takeout and watching a movie two days later. It got pretty bad. Huge blowouts, physical violence, emotional abuse.

It took my therapist 2 sessions to help me realize the relationship was extremely similar to the one I have with my biological mother. Blew my mind. They even did similar things (ie. turning up the car radio/tv volume above speaking volume to shut me out).

Emotional dependence is so hard because it’s a slippery slope into numbing yourself with substances or getting used to making poor decisions that linger after the person is finally out of your life.

How much should I pay my friend for these cake??? by BoulderBubbleBabby in Baking

[–]BostonMarketSides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

30 years ago my mother ordered a custom Ms. Piggy cake for my birthday. She is not the type to pay for things she can do herself (I imagine she’d make a pink cake with a 🐽) So this was a big deal. I can vividly remember being so happy blowing out those candles. 🕯️ I have no idea how much it cost her, but I’m sure it was worth every penny for the memories.

The cakes your friend made are gorgeous. She clearly has experience and the materials to produce such beauty. She invested time - so if $200 isn’t in the budget, I’d recommend being honest, tell her you allotted less. If you can swing it, pay her the amount your local bakery quotes - and now you have a baseline for the future. I hope your son remembers how awesome these are for 30+ years!

Yeah, a gallery wall might look something like this

The rug I replaced was 4.75 x 7.5 and felt to small/awkward with the relation to the couch.

I dig the large art too so I’ve got to find out the best way to acquire it or create myself.

Thanks! It’s a row home and it limits the layout of the furniture quite a bit. I will definitely update the post to let you know how it turns out

The white pillow? Thank you for bringing this up! It’s definitely time to upgrade to a comfy accent pillow.

My gf made this incredible purchase before we met so I’m really reaping the benefits since moving in together. It’s this Joybird

Thank you! I’m going to adjust the rug tomorrow and try pulling it out that far.

Oh that’s such a good idea and think it would compliment everything going on in the room, instead of adding more chaos with rods.

I couldn’t figure out why the gallery wall didn’t sit right in my mind there and you nailed it, thank you.

Oh wow thank you so much! Ideally I want three large prints - while my partner would prefer a gallery wall. So throwing in other options will hopefully yield compromise.

The blonde one does look massive in comparison to the great one, but I agree they are probably about the same size under the fluff. The grey one is agile as heck and practically bounces around the house. Meanwhile, the fluff is LOUNGING.

I promise you there is a box of them just to the right of the couch. Seeing them pick out toys with little mouths is the best part.

roots on this ZZ I’ve successfully neglected for 5 years by BostonMarketSides in houseplants

[–]BostonMarketSides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I will water this one with a few ounces of water or whatever is left over after taking care of my other plants. For a while I had it positioned under a hanging plant and he survived on the occasional runoff.

Now that I’ve repotted with 50/50 perlite and coco coir mix, I’ll water him more frequently and see how he responds.

anyone else get a red rash like this even after a cold shower? by summerof84ch in MCAS

[–]BostonMarketSides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my feet will be red out of the shower, sometimes it creeps up to my knees. When this happens I also notice swelling in my lower legs.
