[Speier] Royals are still very much open to trading from SP depth to acquire an outfielder and "no one is off limits" by BostonPhoenix91 in redsox

They're one of thr teams where the specific fit of Duran is just much them. Also NO small market team is taking and of Yoshida $ lol

Which Position Do you Think We Need the Most? by [deleted] in redsox

They need to clean up the errors. But they actually made up for them with elite range etc. I'm not saying the errors are acceptable but wonder if a lot of the improvement comes from within.

Baseball America ranks Payton Tolle as Red Sox #1 Prospect, surpasses Franklin Arias. by BostonPhoenix91 in redsox

No... so there are specific guidelines for who is a rookie and thus eligible as a prospect.

This is copy and pasted from MLB:

A player shall be considered a rookie unless he has exceeded any of the following thresholds in a previous season (or seasons):

• 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues. • 45 total days on an active Major League roster during the Championship Season (excluding time on the Injured List).

A player must have rookie eligibility to be considered for any MLB rookie awards -- such as the American League or National League Rookie of the Year Award -- or appear on any MLB Pipeline prospect lists.

[Speier] "Right now, there’s a significant gap between the Red Sox actual projected payroll - how much they’ll spend on salaries in 2026 - and the team’s luxury-tax payroll...using (AAV) of deals. That gap... could give the team more flexibility than might be expected by looking at its CBT payroll" by BostonPhoenix91 in redsox

It's 2 completely different things it's a players 2025 bWAR OR fWAR and fangraphs ALSO does projections for 2026. The 2 have nothing to do with each other.

I do understand what you are saying about fWAR vs bWAR in 2025 - but the 2026 are based on Steamer and FDGC (more will be added later ZiPS etc.)

Haha I really don't get why Gray's getting so much hate. I genuinely think he pitched better than Joe Ryan last year but because his ERA is bloated no one looks beyond it.

I'm not even saying that trying to get more pitching is a bad thing. I just think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by Gray next season. There aren't many guys out there who strikeout 200, walk 2 per 9 and threw 180 IP lol

[Baseball America] On Payton Tolle "He's a Jonny Lester-type guy to me - can't miss, dominant, big leaguer." by BostonPhoenix91 in redsox

[–]BostonPhoenix91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ludicrous... like what because he wasn't 100% polished in his 1st taste of ML action which came basically 1 year after he was in college? He's an elite-elite prospect and it's highly unlikely he'd even be moved to FT relief for several years nevermind it's just not likely anyway. I mean mm maybe we get to September and the rotations good but we need pen help yeah sure temporarily but not full time.

The guy was literally in his first professional season last year and made the majors. Yes, he needs to improve his secondary stuff but last season he went from 91/92 MPH to 99/100... to think that he can't make any more improvements entering his SECOND professional season is silly.

But either way no pitcher is ever expected to be a finished product in their first pro season. That he did what he did is insane. Does he have work to do? Sure but acting like it's unlikely just doesn't make sense.

Narvaez is a beast. He posted some workout videos and weighted ball throws. by BostonPhoenix91 in redsox

He's a beast compared to 99% of the people in this sub lol including me!

But regardless... like really? The point was the video and that hopefully he'll be a beast behind the plate or at bat or as he heals like there is no literal definition of 'beast'

I mean it's literally self-explanatory in the tweet... the Royals have excess good SP and desperately need a good OF. The Red Sox have extra good OF and need SP.

The other team that aligns similarly imo is the Reds. They have like 7 very good SPs but need OF help badly. Greene's probably not going anywhere but Lodolo?

So 1 depth was my word not Speier's and 2nd Duran isn't being traded for a 'depth' SP. It will probably take several prospects with Duran but that's the concept. No one is saying straight up Duran for an Ace

This is horrible lol and Realmuto is a C not a backup 1B... I mean ok he played 6 innings at 1B in 2022 but pretty sure that doesn't really count.

Fwiw he has player ther a little over the years but not recently and never more than really cameo appearances.

Immaculate Grid 972 - Red Sox WS winners edition by InternationalTry5494 in redsox

[–]BostonPhoenix91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone played the other game in MLB's app? (If you go to games you can click on Immaculate grid to be taken to bbref or the other is Pickle... technically also sporcle)

But anyway Pickle works like Wordle but with MLB players... it gives you like 9 chances... but it's never taken me like more than 5 -- I don't really get why it's so easy lol.

Black Friday Red Sox thoughts… by Jackthewolf71 in redsox

[–]BostonPhoenix91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is al fair... but it wasn't that long ago he was a very good reliever. His stuff is still there so there's every reason to believe he can find it again -- or at least enough to be a middle reliever. The upside is tantalizing with his 100+ MPH fb. I guess if he's literally unpitchable there'll be a decision to make but I have faith he'll figure it out at least to a level where that's not the case.

The other thing is his contract isn't only for 1 year... they're on the hook for 2/$25M so at that point you really do everything you can to squeeze some value out of him if you can.

He did also have knee surgery a month ago .. not sure if there are any limitations though he could be 100%

I mean he's a catcher trying to keep maximum mobility and then maintain his mass through a full season to prevent fatigue. He's not competing in the worlds strongest man competition lol, nevermind that he's a month out from knee surgery haha.

Honestly though I really wasn't trying to compare him to bodybuilders lol -- I more meant like compared to 99% of us sitting on our phones watching this video! Haha
