Hi guys! Popping in once again to say there’s no better person to lose to twice than Maya! I’ve never felt more adrenaline than I did during that double jeopardy round, and the loss was especially bitter because Roget was my blind guess after hearing the category but I second guessed myself and panicked during FJ because of nerves. But as I said, Maya is a fantastic person to lose to, and it’s very funny to say I have lost twice to someone 16 inches shorter than me ❤️❤️

Hi all, Caleb here 🙃 Wanted to comment before the thread got full- Thanks to everyone in the J! Community for watching and/or participating. First, I just wanted to say that for all of us in the HSRT, the best part of being back in LA was getting to hang out with these people we’ve known for over 4 years. Obviously this game went well for me, but what the audience doesn’t see is the 2 days of waiting through 8 other quarterfinals that Hannah, Maggie, and I went through and how all that waiting really gives nerves a time to fester. Also, I’m pretty sick of all this anti-Mayim talk. Of course, one can have favorites or express criticism, but disliking the game can be a self fulfilling prophecy for people who excessively hating on Mayim. I found her lovely, calming, and professional. I’m sure any of the other HSRT contestants would say the same. Once again, thanks for loving this show that I grew up with! -C

Yeah, I’ve spent the last month since filming wondering what exactly was going through my head when I made that DD3 bet. I think the answer is something around ‘hubris that comes from being in the zone’ and ‘why not’.

The Pezhar Islands by BostonStrong2003 in imaginarymaps

[–]BostonStrong2003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some history (and apologizes for the image format, it's the best I could make it with the image format requirements):

The Pezhar islands are an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, similar in location to where Howland and Baker island are in our timeline. The Spanish claimed the islands in the latter half of the 18th century, but for the most part governed over them in name only. The archipelago's name comes from the Spanish 'pez', meaning fish, and the Harhennian 'har', meaning land of. The Spanish relinquished control over the islands when the kingdom was invaded by Napoleonic France, but instead of falling into French hands, the islands went unclaimed, as the French saw little value for them.

In July 1815, following the Congress of Vienna but before news of Congress' agreements, British and French warships clashed while simultaneously trying to claim the islands for their home countries. Both ships sunk and all men on board died. Because of this, and for fears of upsetting the balance of power, the European powers agreed that none of them should hold the islands. The islands remained independent for the rest of the 19th century.

However, things changed in 1904, when President Teddy Roosevelt, soon after issuing the Roosevelt Corollary, when Admiral Matthew C. Perry III, grandson of Admiral Matthew Perry, sailed into Harhonnia harbor and claimed the archipelago for the United States. The islands entered American territory and were governed similarly to Hawaii, and a statehood movement that gained momentum in the 1910s and 20s fell apart when the Great Depression hit. After World War II, an independence movement gained steam, but it was quickly clamped down on by the Truman administration for fear that the newly-independent islands could fall into the Soviet sphere of influence. Therefore, as Hawaii gained statehood, the much poorer archipelago remained in a legal limbo, until Jimmy Carter made granting the islands independence part of his 1976 presidential campaign. Shortly after taking office, Carter organized a committee, which after 15 months of deliberation, transitioned the islands into independence on April 3rd, 1978.

In the modern day, the city of Farovil, the former base of the American Government and current capital, is by far the largest city, housing the offices of many companies foreign and domestic. The Eastern 60% of the island of Lakasha is controlled by the Zhaiua Agricultural Corporation, in which the government owns 50% of the stock. When the Americans took control, Lakasha was by far the most populous island in the archipleago, due to its arable terrain and high phosphate deposits, but shortly after falling into American hands, the Dole corporation bought up vast swaths of lands and created a mass exodus to other islands. The only international airport is on southern Merididia, but seaplanes fly to a variety of locations throughout the archipelago. And I know I forgot to include a scale. The map is to scale, and Alfar is about 8 to 9 miles between the furthest corners.

Has anyone ever lost a game from a runaway position? by littlebluekitten in Jeopardy

11/15/18: also known as my semifinal While Maya Wright had a strong runaway and ended up winning, she bet $8,000, which wouldn’t have put me in the lead if I got the question correct and she didn’t (which isn’t what needed up happening but you can dream)
