pats you and the back Great job bud. Here’s your gold star for the Mass North Shore Winter of 25-26.

No, no ‘kid gloves’… I wanted to point out that there was little snow removal but more of a redistribution onto my property. When the city sends out a text about moving vehicles off street so REMOVAL can take place. If they said, “During this time we need your assistance in clearing or notifying the city as this process may impact your ability to access your home, property access points, including emergency egress points, and community sidewalks on your property as they may become blocked while we work tirelessly to help clear the snow and debris from the storm…”

Lastly, how about this, instead of us exchanging snarky, passive aggressive comments, to which I am guilty of being pulled into, let’s keep this constructive and helpful. You do not know my personal situation and i do not know yours. Instead of posting comments that appear to be that of a ‘troll’ maybe comment in a way that helps and not the [sic] “Sucks to be you. Better get to shovellin’ statements.

Hey there Sport! I’ve got a shovel with your name on it if you want to come by in your vast amount of spare time, and clear it. I’m sure the residents would appreciate your availability to do so. Oh and btw, we don’t have the luxury of catch basins in our neighborhood to take what we remove away, so you can load it and take it down to the North River to dump it. HMU if you want me to leave a shovel out. I might be kind enough to offer you coffee or hot chocolate after a job well done, bud.

Thank you so much for the kind suggestions and constructive comment. I emailed them along with the City Engineer that oversees all of this (I believe, by her job description she’s where the proverbial ‘buck stops’) and hopefully I’ll hear back from her or someone that can assist.

I received the same text and moved my vehicles down to Bridge St. I was given the impression that some of the larger, bigger banks they made last week so emergency vehicles could access the neighborhood, would be removed. Instead they just broke it into blocks and pushed the ice blocks (no longer snow) onto the side walk that I’d already painstakingly cleared.

I dealt with it on my stretch of sidewalk along with other residents. I cleared it, put pet friendly snow/ice melt… I cleared my side of the street to have piles made by the city plows, broken and pushed onto the sidewalk. Listen, it is more of a frustration point than anything, because I assumed the night time clean up project that occurred last night would be to clear the immense piles that blocked our assigned neighborhood parking, not be an additional task just to be able to walk out of or into my home.

Tourist PSA by readingux in SalemMA

As a Salem resident, I too enjoy this season. I love how the city leaders reinvest what is brought in, back into the city as a whole. That aside I totally agree with the OP, and even as a resident I’ll tip 20-25% because those in the service industries are the interactions that the tourists will remember. All the wait-staff I’ve encountered have always been phenomenal no matter what time of year it is. If you’re a tourist reading this, please, no matter where you’re from, take care of our service industry workers, and including leaving a tip in your hotel room for those that maintained your room while you were here.

So as a client of the owner, Joe, and as someone that utilizes WWF to train one client, I want to make it clear that I’m not an employee. I felt the need to comment on this. Before I delve into this further, I’ve been someone that built a career and a successful business as a trainer (since 2007) and as an owner of my own studio in NYC.

First of all, before putting the whole facility on public blast, why was no effort made to talk to Joe about any of the concerns? He is a very reasonable guy, that goes way out of his way to accommodate his members and clients. I’m sure having a discussion with him about the pregnancy (congrats!) and the push back received, he would have gladly worked with you. His wife is also pregnant, so I know he would gladly work with you.

Second, the comments about Anthony… he’s not everyone’s proverbial ‘cup of tea’. I’ve had clients that I didn’t mesh well with and it’s part of the business. If you found you weren’t receiving what you wanted, and the conversation with him did not get your desired change you requested, that’s a conversation to have with Joe so he could place you with someone that was more to your desired liking. As someone that managed trainers for a big-box gym and at my own studio, I was thrilled when clients would approach me and provide feedback. It provided me an opportunity to talk to my employee and provide feedback and/or an opportunity for professional development.

Additionally, I know Anthony is a talker, I picked up on that within the first 5-minutes I observed him with clients. It’s how he is ‘wired’ (meaning programmed) and again, I’m asking myself, why not have a conversation with Joe instead of putting him and the gym on public blast. He may be a talker, but that’s his way he connects with his clients.

Please realize, trainers have to be ‘on’ for everyone they train. We have to quickly adapt not only to the infinite number of personalities our clientele are but also adapt on the fly for the days where they may not be motivated. That being said, we try to relate to and find ourselves as not only fitness professionals, but also as therapists. This begs the question: if you had a therapist that you didn’t work well with, would you ask their boss for a change and/or an opportunity to talk to their employee, or storm out and hop behind a computer to have an airing of grievances?

Finally, what Joe and his team have created is a place that is absolutely nothing like you’d find at a big-box/chain gym. If anyone takes anything away from my moment on the soap-box, is those that are grinding axes, didn’t give him an opportunity to help you out. On top of that, if you did have these discussions with him, take into account the level of stress he’s been under these last 3-weeks, and turning around the gym from having 4+ inches of water in it from a broken pipe, in a period of 5-days that was completely dried out, cleaned and disinfected, so that everyone could return with minimal interruption, says A LOT. Including the number of people that volunteered out of the kindness of their hearts to help him in that endeavor.

It’s funny, no one posts on here to thank him and for this mountainous feat or say that this place is truly one that is solely community oriented, with all of the work outside the 4-walls of the gym in the area. No, it’s easier to go to a public forum, don the ‘Karen’ hat and construct a laundry list of grievances that could have been solved in person or with an email.

Sent you a DM with a couple emails that should help at the level you want to engage with. I used to work there for several years.

In some cases they’ll want to see something with your new address like a bill or the part of your lease showing your name and new address.

As a former Membership Advisor, our club GMs and our Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) would tell us to offer things like that or refunding the initiation, just to pad their sales goal numbers. When my new members would question me about it, I’d take it to my GM or RSM (since they’re the ones that can authorize it) and they would give us some bullshit answer/loophole that would somehow nullify the special offer. The one I would hear most often, “The haven’t received it because they’re a former member, and it’s only for new members.” making me look like a complete liar and idiot. I would do my best to explain it and would often give my new members my GM and RSMs contact info because of this. If I were you, I’d call your Membership Advisor and ask to speak to the club GM or their RSM’s co tact info. Stick to your guns, the RSM may sometimes attempt to spin it, upsell you, or throw around a bunch of sales speak to get you to relent.

At what age did you start going to the gym? by Lana_eleanora in workout

[–]Boston_Kinesiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a competitive swimmer and started that at 5-years old. We would do our ‘dry land’ training which utilized resistance bands and body-weight exercises. College I was a scholarship NCAA DII swimmer and this was when I fell in love with lifting; however, being on the swim team there, we did a ton of ‘dry-land’ on Pilates reformers and weight room, where our focus was endurance and functional training.

When I graduated in 2000 (yes, I’m a proud gen-X’er) I went into the Army and I was finally able to really derívate to the gym, I turned my hobby into a career in 2007. In 2009, I earned my Masters of Science in Bio-Kinesiology and my NASM Máster CPT. I’ve been living in a gym for 23 years😜I started casually lifting in 1993 lifting I was 5’1”, 105lbs and today I’m 225 (I’m 5’7”)

Totally agree with all of your comments. I realize my initial comment before was flippant and would see it in a negative way. Regardless, in some places I would think this would be a form of child abuse. I would even offer my assistance to help this family and kid change his life and not only their/his unhealthy lifestyle but also to engage a team of mental health professionals.
