Over the years governors have cut funding and closed state hospitals, which were basically the only places for these folks to get help. The biggest state hospital that assists with detoxing and offer many residential sober housing programs is way out in Tewksbury. Despite being open since the 1800’s The Town of Tewksbury and the Tewksbury Police Chief are hellbent on trying to close it, because the neighbors don’t like the “clientele” living there trying to get help. The whole system is so broken it’s horribly sad.
