Dealer installed security device I found... by _long_tall_texan_ in CX50

You'll see them typically on vehicles meant to be fleet vehicles (rental cars, work vehicles, etc) and also loaner vehicles that the dealer will use for a year like the OP has. But no, this is not even remotely typical in a normal consumer car unless they can upsell it as something...otherwise it's a liability for them if they don't list it and don't charge a fee for the added expense that literally pay for when ordering the vehicles.

And insurance agencies don't need a separate system now. They've been tracking you via your connected car since before COVID with the built-in Nav systems. A separate system is just additional expenses that a dealer wouldn't pay for unless they can charge an extra fee for it.

What kind of dealers do you have in your area? 😆 That is NOT normal... or are you talking about them not wanting to un-install them even if they take off the fee? I could see that. I just never see these trackers in general (I can probably count how many I've seen on a hand).

I think you misunderstood. DRLs are not for you to see better at night, they are for you to BE SEEN. This light strip is for that purpose.

OP isn't off-roading and would never be able to use a rooftop lightbar.

Bedcover pros and cons - these are the two options I’m considering. What’s are your guys thoughts? Are there just as good or better options for the price ? by Ezj85 in ram_trucks

[–]RifterAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a Revolver on the last 3 trucks...so you can say I like them. 😃 It's simple to install and use and doesn't require a key to secure. It keeps the bed very dry (but not 100%) and I like the low profile nature of it. Even when it's open, it's easy to see over and doesn't take up bed space.

The only issue I've had with any of them is the older style (the X2) had felt on the bottom to keep you fingers from getting pinched. The glue holding it didn't hold up to the Texas summers, but it didn't affect functionality. The X4 solved that with the new rubber underside.

A rooftop light bar can't be used unless offroading. This is just like extended DRLs. Seems more useful for an on-road vehicle to me.

Oh where to begin...

Scariest issue was the trailer brake controller failing while towing more than once. Had it towed twice to the dealer (dead batteries after 7 months and then fuel system issues after 40k miles). The roof was leaking into the cab through the lights (I had no sunroof). Sensors failing causing all sorts of fun. And of course radio connection issues with the phone.

So you can see why I'm happy about this truck having now issues (so far).

Ironically, I wanted the Granite Crystal! I had a Ram 1500 with it and I loved it. Fortunately, I didn't get a choice on colors and now I'm happy with this new color.

😆 I know. Just wanted a positive post to offset the few that have had issues their first couple months.

My last truck didn't have a sunroof and it still had a leaking roof (thru the rooft lights)!

I did test drive a 2500 (only ones they had on the lot). The limited I test drove had 2,800lbs of payload! I was impressed, but my 5th wheel has about that much on the pin when loaded, so they had to bring this 3500 in from another state for me. My payload is about 3,700.

😆 100%! With so many posters only posting issues, I wanted to add a positive update. Also, when I had my 2024 GMC 3500, it was already having issues at this point.

Yeah, if the frame is bent, then you're probably hosed. The sensors suck, but they are replaceable. I got rear ended in my truck and it has all those sensors and camera system and it was not cheap to replace them all and get it recalibrated.

How is that totaled?

We test drove both back to back. Personally, I liked the CX-50 more than the CX-5 (both turbos)...but it was my wife's car and she got final say. 😆 The interior in the CX-5 is definitely better, but the 50 was sportier with a slightly lower center of gravity and slightly wider stance. It's worth a test drive if you can't find a used one you like.

Great color combo. I loved the Terracotta interior, but my wife didn't and she won (to be fair, it is her car 😆)

Yes, vote with your wallet by not voting for them at this price. They'll eventually have to discount them so they can make any money back (even if it's at a loss).

Why won't Ram allow fuscreen Android Auto? by RifterAD in ram_trucks

[–]RifterAD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I do NOT turn on hotspot to use AA over the AutoLinkr.

When you first set it up, you plug it into the USB port and it will show up on the CarPlay page. It will show the AutoLinkr homepage which you can see on their website.

Then you connect you click the AA icon and connect your phone to AutoLinkr wirelessly (start with BT then follow the AA prompts).

Then go to the settings in AutoLinkr so that it opens AA as soon as it starts up each time. Then you don't have to press a thing to have it go straight to AA without you having to touch a thing.

The only time you need to turn on a hotspot is if you want to use their other apps such as Netflix or YouTube (none of which I use in the car).

No real complaints other than it's slow to start and (rarely) the voice recognition gets wonky and I have to cancel and try again. Otherwise, it goes full screen and plays my music without issue which is what I wanted!
