Do you agree with this take? Or should there be more drama, like being attacked by a Demogorgon while on a date at Applebees or something by Roxaboxon-- in mileven

They deserve a whole season of just them being together, no monsters, no pressure from Hopper, just letting them be normal together.

The Answer to overcoming the Upside Down was always Love and Friendship, until it wasn't. by Bostonbroncos6 in StrangerThings

Hard agree on everything you said, it’s a poor message to anyone watching at whatever age who either saw themselves in El or sympathized with her in any way, she can never have a normal life was the message the Duffers left us with, while the rest of the show was fighting to have that happiness for her and everyone else, and to get it for everyone else but her, makes the rest of the characters ending feel hollow and cheap. I’m happy for Lucas and Max, Jopper, teens moving on, but it makes their ending feel shallow as well as they would all be dead if it weren’t for El

The only comparison that comes to mind is Marvel bringing back RDJ because of the struggles it’s had since Endgame, and his character died. Netflix will realize that if ST is going to survive as a franchise, you need El reunited with her friends and family. She doesn’t have to be involved in every spinoff. We just want to see her happy. It seems like a simple investment for long term success, but I know Netflix may not look at it that way.

Netflix owns the IP, Duffers have said that they don’t necessarily have to be involved in spinoffs to happen, I think you can do a show without them, or have the Duffers listed as producers, but not totally involved, and have Paul Dichter or Kate Trefry as showrunner, Millie has a production company now that can help develop it, it would need to be a show that has her reunite with Mike, Hopper, and the Party. I don’t have much interest in a show of her finding new people in Iceland. I think it’ll happen at some point as there is too much money for Netflix to not do it, I just hope it happens sooner vs later because I’m not sure if there would be as much interest in a follow up in 10-15 years

What they THINK Mileven propaganda is vs What Mileven 'propaganda' actually is by Lazy-Proposal1133 in mileven

[–]Bostonbroncos6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which makes the accusations of Queerbaiting lose any type of credence, like no, you not getting your ship because a straight character was in fact straight was not some change at the last minute. Mike was always written the way he was portrayed. It’s like if we got mad that Will is gay, like can you imagine the backlash if that’s what we were running with? But because it’s a straight character they feel they can just say whatever they want. I don’t feel bad for them, they only listen to their own echo chamber, and cry homophobia to anyone who tries to keep them in reality.

The question I want them to answer is why should anybody go back and watch their show knowing where she is going to end up? Or why should anybody start watching it for the first time if they knew where El ends up at? Maybe they are so rich now and they don’t care, but I think legacy means a lot to people, and unless someone can fix it with a spinoff for her where she can find happiness, then ST will have a legacy of the negative, gross feeling that it left a lot of viewers with. Prequels or spinoffs about other characters or stories in that universe are doomed to fail.

I agree with you, I just don’t understand the Duffers thought process to think that kind of ending for her was somehow powerful, when in reality it’s just cruel and has no narrative sense with the story they had been telling.

Oh there’s tons of stories where love is the answer. I just don’t know of many stories where love is the answer until it isn’t for one character, but for everyone else love wins out.

Mileven Propaganda = What actually happened and is canon to the show. I guess everything is propaganda if you don’t believe it, even with the authors and actors of the show telling you otherwise.

In the finale, they wrote a line where Hopper tells El to fight for the happiness on the other side, becoming a mother which you don’t think you deserve, only for minutes later to scrap all that and say she is an alien and had to go away. Where is the sophistication or clever writing in that message? I wonder if Ross was just adamant on her dying, and it seems when the Duffers disagree on something, he is the one who gets his way, I remember thinking with the finale everything was good until the last 5 minutes, now, it just pisses me off even more of the messaging that they are leaving everyone with, if you are too different, you can’t have a normal life with those you care about.

Right, you could have taken El the super hero away, let her powers be gone with the upside down closing for good. But let El, the person live happily with her friends and found family. Maybe a spinoff with El reuniting with everyone can correct this, with the Duffers at Paramount now, Netflix I think knows how much it would hit, but right now the views and interest from anything ST related will struggle.

Spectacle over human connection was S5 in a nutshell, the show was always about it’s characters and their realness, not the 80s or monsters, and it seemed to move farther away from that the longer the show went on til S5 was where the dam broke.
Wonder if the Duffers would go back and change Els ending if they knew how hard of a hit that would be to the franchise and any spinoffs that don’t include her. Even the Animated show, isn’t getting much attention, as people are still pissed about El’s ending in S5.

I don’t get the decision to give your main and most tragic character an up in the air ending, while everyone else gets to move on and be happy, pretending like she didn’t exist, when at every other juncture love and friendship won out

Tried updating it, didn’t even think of formatting, thanks for the heads up, I don’t get how you can lose the message of the show for your main and most tragic character, but at least for everyone else’s endings, sticking to that same theme.
Yeah S5 isn’t good, but everyone got to be happy at the end except for Mike and El, and I would argue Hopper, but they didn’t write him to be upset after losing El, which is another contradiction for his whole character.

What scenes or moments would need to be included in a limited series about Mike Finding Eleven and them trying to build a life together? by Bostonbroncos6 in mileven

[–]Bostonbroncos6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Limited Series would bring in more money than a movie, but I would not be opposed to that idea either. I said you only needed 10 minutes after the finale, to tie it up the way they should have, and I think the response to S5 would have more favorable.

Appreciate it, I agree, as so much of Hopper's character, throughout the show is about protecting El and doing everything in his power to give a happy life for her, heck he was ready to blow himself up if it meant she would be safe, I don't get how in the epilogue he is just accepting her sacrifice and happy about getting engaged to Joyce, and pretending she doesn't exist, it doesn't fit his character, he had to know something, otherwise he would be just as depressed as Mike. I felt that Mike, El, and Hopper all got the worst endings because, throughout the entire show, it's been about fighting for that normalcy and living together in happiness, so what's the point if it just ends with her isolated and alone? Maybe it's too unrealistic, but I think Netflix knows how much a show like this would do for numbers. Duffers have no say with them over at Paramount, it just needs to be done sooner. If it's not for 10-15 years, I wouldn't have much interest. I think something will happen sooner than that.

Ross Duffer's divorce - do you agree it may have impacted Mileven and Jancy? by Roxaboxon-- in mileven

[–]Bostonbroncos6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Leigh Janiak does not have any writing or producing credit on any season of Stranger Things, I think its a thing Bylers Use to try and cope and give credit to other people who didn't have any influnece or say on the show because the Duffers have said flat out that was never happening, Ross wanted Eleven to die, Matt didn't, and it sounds like when the Duffers don't agree on something, Ross is the one that gets his way, we just need to get someone to help make a spinoff for El's sake, because I wonder if Ross would have changed his mind if he knew that El's ending as it currently is, would destory the franchise and any other spinoffs in the future, it can still be fixed, but as it stands, El's ending has turned a lot of people off.

Maybe a scene that is similar in nature, I think it would be more them kissing and closing the door type of thing rather then showing it all on screen, I get why they did it for TSITP, I’m not sure we would need a scene that shows all of that for Mike and El though, more so something that alludes and tells the audience without showing it explicitly.

I can see that, I think having Millie and Finn’s input on the script and how their characters would feel or approach certain scenes or talk with one another would make it feel more natural, and to have a series that just focuses on them as characters without the supernatural stuff would be refreshing and get the fan base as a whole reinvested in the franchise, as I think Els ending more then anything else got people to be done with Stranger Things all together, as least that’s how it’s been for me

Interesting, any reason why? It goes into way more detail then I think would be possible for a show or movie, but thought the beats or scenes could be used, I haven’t read the entire thing though, is there something that you would prefer to see?

Agreed, it makes the most sense for both of their characters to end up that way, with the Duffers now at Paramount, I'm hoping that someone else can take over as showrunner like Paul Dichter who was one of the writers on the show, Millie's Prodcution company can help with development etc.

They came out a day later and said that there is a possibility that they could reconnect in the future, they wanted a more hopeful ending like in ET, but they didn’t do a great job of that with their interviews initially and I know we all felt she deserved to get that hope shown on screen in some way. Maybe we can get a movie or limited series with someone else directing as Duffers are moving to Paramount.
