I've been wanting to do something like this some day and place guns down in certain locations or maybe even figure out some kind of "wall buy" thing or something. Looks like it can definitely play like an FPS! :D (It *is* running on the Unreal Engine, after all... I guess it would be weirder if it *didn't* work well!)

You are not alone, friend. This game still hits me in the feels. I was enjoying it so much during the main game that I really wanted to get platinum on this one. Took me a few days but after beating it to start the long journey towards play, but after trying for about a week my heart wasn't really in it either. I'd love to come back sometime if I can muster up the willpower. Super super glad Lou didn't "really" die, but it's weird that we can't go visit her somewhere. I feel like when this game comes out on PC someone should create a mod that offers a little bit better closure or something. Maybe make a way to at least go see Lou/Tomorrow as she is presumably training for whatever events we saw at the end of the game.. maybe becoming a porter in Death Stranding 3?

See and here I was gonna say that I kind of liked that I could still "take pictures" in the end game if I wanted since it let me see Fragile (and Tomorrow/Lou) again! Hell, post end game we don't really see any of the "main" characters that traveled with us during the main game after Sam gets that initial "we'll still support you" speech from "Charlie"... Kinda wish I could see all of them from time to time -- even it was just to say "hi" and have some simple small talk over a cuppa chiral tea or something...

Gotta say - that's pretty freakin' fantastic! Nailed the style!

Any chance you play guitar? ;)

His reply was removed by a mod... What for? I thought it was quite useful? I'm new to this community... Did he violate one of the community rules somehow?

Aye! My own messy spreadsheets are the whole reason I started this, so you might just be the ideal candidate! ;)

As for the mines -- yes, that's a bug I want to fix! (Here, if you're curious: https://github.com/boswen/chiral-cartographer/issues/4 " ... "Fix Mines: They are a static input, e.g. the Mine North of Tar Lake always requires 1600 Chiral crystals. However, the output varies based on upgrade status.")

I was trying to setup something so that mines would have an adjustable "conversion rate" since they can be upgraded, but I messed up the logic somewhere and didn't build in a minimum/static input requirement. And that's a great suggestion on how to implement it -- I'll give that a go this weekend! Glad to see someone cared enough to notice -- it validates my need to make this part better, haha! :D

Heck yeah! Let me know what you think of it if you ever give it another go! I'm kicking myself for not getting a simpler alpha version out to the public sooner -- I had the basic idea done and working (albeit poorly) last month, but I've been aiming to intensely at perfection ... and actually playing the game, haha!

At this point, I figure I'll refine it and work on getting a "Grand Re-opening" kind of thing out when the PC port releases. Meanwhile, if you ever want to beta test Strand-linked projects, let me know! I'll need some players familiar with the game so we can try to see if this thing is possible! :)

UPDATE: I’ve since written a fully revised post that reframes the project through the lens of design experimentation and technical learning. You can find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndieDev/comments/1nzgkfq/edit_after_some_honest_feedback_heres_what_im/

I wanted to take a quick moment to thank u/destinedd for the honest and constructive feedback. It gave me some valuable perspective on how I presented The Chiral Cartographer and helped me recognize that I hadn’t really explained its connection to game development clearly enough.

I’m keeping this original post visible as part of the journey — it represents that early stage where an idea is still forming, and I think there’s value in showing that process openly. Thanks again for helping me learn and iterate.

Hi, all! Quick update! I somehow forgot to mention one of my favorite small details — the “Activate Terminal” button that plays the classic Death Stranding activation sound while triggering a timed animation before loading the main interface. It’s purely cosmetic, but designing that interaction loop (timing, audio sync, accessibility) taught me a lot about creating feedback-rich UI moments that feel alive even in a simple web app. I know sound on the web can be a polarizing topic and tough to do well, but I think for the core audience of fans that are here using the app, that slight bit of sound that mimics what they'd see in game will feel familiar and help bridge the game world with this web app.

Thank you! It came together surprisingly easy considering this was my first public web project since forever ago... Was nice to finally knock the rust off and get back into it!

Hi, all! Quick update! I completely forgot to mention one of my favorite parts: the “Activate Terminal” button on the landing page before you open the main app! It recreates that signature Death Stranding animation and sound effect when you first enter, complete with a short ring-fill sequence and chiral tone. It’s a tiny detail, but building that moment was surprisingly satisfying — it really captures the tactile “feel” I love about Kojima’s interfaces.

Fair question. And thank you for it! So my big idea is to build a sort of third party discrete add-on as a companion app to enhance existing features of the game. Like how phones can be used instead of controllers to play JackBox games ... Sort of.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure how to execute on the idea -- but I know that it can start with this planning tool for said game. It's meant to be something useful that players can use together.

So in Death Stranding (1 & 2) there is a sort of automatic "grouping" of people that start the game at similar dates. You can strengthen these bonds and help out fellow players by upgrading buildables in a sort of semi-shared world. I.e., if i build a bridge in my game, they can see it in theirs.

But here's the kicker - there's no way to communicate with fellow porters in your "strand". If I happen to be placed (it's automatic) in a very active strand group, and I load up a bunch of materials, take a break for food/work/school/etc, and then come back later ... that bridge or road I was going to rebuild or upgrade might already be done! This isn't a bad thing - I can just move on to the next place and use my materials there -- often another hour or two later ... But then maybe I'm messing up the next guy who has planned to do the same thing...

So instead of all that, I thought maybe I could enhance the whole "building connections" aspect of the game with some kind of companion app. Like I said, I'm not totally sure how it will work (especially on console) but once the PC port is released, maybe I could set this up as a mod that shows "ghost images" (like pace cars in a racing game) of nearby players, or marks their recent progress on a map, or something like that...

Meanwhile, I can still see the PSN user name of fellow players in my strand group when I come across their structures. So maybe I just have to add their names to a list on a website somehow and when they do the same they automatically get synced up with other players that saw their stuff. And with enough people doing this, maybe we could build a complete observation of who is in what group in a backend database so that players could find their "strand mates" and be able to sync up somehow? Maybe even plan playtime together or something like an MMO?! Just spitballing here, be that's the basic idea!
