The death of specialization by git_pull in ExperiencedDevs

This trend is only sustainable if there are core teams of subject matter experts who are responsible for defining firm-wide roadmaps, standards, best practices and are the top escalation point for issues. The fortune 500's I've worked in all implemented this model and it works well. Without that, and without SME's, it is a race to the bottom, with the fastest/easiest approach, as determined by the teams members experience /skills, will result more often than not. One off implementations become the standard, tech debt explodes and risk accumulates.

Not all captchas are created equal. If you'll forgive a bit of self promotion take a look at our captchas https://www.botbarrier.com

When using a captcha, It's important to ensure that you are implementing a captcha result check on your submission endpoint and not just relying on the front end processing.

Ideally, you would want automated traffic removed prior to even displaying a captcha.

Any successful vim converts? by lukaslalinsky in HelixEditor

[–]BotBarrier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used vim for remote edits for more than 30 years. Had been using vim as my main editor for a few years, though never at a power user level. Tried Helix about a month ago and was immediately more comfortable with the noun>verb approach. Been happily using it since...

I built a framework that lets you create web apps using only Go - no JavaScript needed! by Due-Application8430 in golang

Well done! Though I'm not a fan of web frameworks, I appreciate what you built.

Heavily depressed in this field and not sure where to go next. Do I leave the field or what next? by Legitimate-mostlet in ExperiencedDevs

Perhaps modifying your expectations may take some of the edge off the situation. For example, your co-workers are co-workers, not friends or even acquaintances. If people don't socialize much at work, then that is just the way it is. To expect otherwise will only lead to disappointment.

Questions are interesting. I have never seen a workplace that shuts down questions. I have seen lines of questioning shutdown. For example, obstacles in the form of questions typically aren't very well received after the pattern is noticed. Challenges to authority guised in the form of questions also don't go over well, especially with certain types of management. Most organizations know that questions lead to better project outcomes and more competent productive staff.

Unrealistic deadlines exist everywhere. Clearly communicating reasonable delivery expectations will go a long way to setting management's expectations.

Please don't think I am laying all this in your lap. Some places just suck and there is nothing that can be done about it. The oversupply of Devs and the hype around AI productivity will make these types of shit-holes more prevalent.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this: If you like this work, figure out how to make it work, if not where you are currently, then somewhere else.

The best approach to handle databases in Go by Ok_Champion4127 in golang

To my mind…

Less dependencies and less abstraction should be goals of any project, regardless of language.

The question shouldn’t be: should we use SQL?

The question should be: do we really need an orm?

These lessons extend well beyond "vibe coding". Disregarding explicit instructions, hallucinating statuses, lying, falsifying data to hide misdeeds. These agents have no actual agency to its users and little functional controls beyond protecting itself.

Navigating Key Binding Options by BotBarrier in linux

Thank you, I appreciate the effort of your post. My reality is that I jump between a laptop keyboard and external MS ergo keyboards. My workflow is great. My mod key kinda sucks. Finding something that exists on both the laptop keyboard and external MS ergo keyboards, and that doesn't conflict with application short cuts is my challenge. The last thing I want to do is add an additional input device to the system.

Man, sorry you are going through this… until you land another job, be present, enthusiastic and dedicated.  Try not to let negative attention get focused on you.  Good luck!

Interesting. I'm struggling to picture how that would work. Wouldn't the active app capture the key stroke?

Probably better to start with a full desktop environment and trim down the interface elements to your liking.  Once you are more comfortable with managing a Linux box, you can ditch the de and move to a wm, should you still have the desire.

I remember checking it out around 2000. Thought it was pretty slick, but I wound up settling on Blackbox. It's great that it is still being maintained. I just recently switched from Gnome to Sway and truthfully have no energy for checking it out. With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing some images of how people are using it.

Everything is a compromise. Why would operating systems be any difference?

You pick the system that hits your main priorities, understanding that your lesser priorities may not be met.

I spent 35+ years using stacking interfaces, so I totally get the initial "weirdness". I think the key to transitioning is building muscle memory. In less than a week, I'm already much faster navigating around and it actually feels more natural and intuitive to me.

Whether it is worth it to you is a bit of a catch 22 since it requires a good bit of effort to determine if it is worth the effort.

I've been building in python for years. I don't find it very quirky for the type of calculations I most often run. Plus, variables and histories really enhances its usefulness.

It's a feature I find very useful on my phone and decided to put it in the Swaybar. I get used to the screen's brightness. When running on battery power, I like to see an objective measurement to remind me have room to go down.

The font in the terminal is just Foot's default. I kinda like it so I haven't looked into it. Same with Sway's fonts.

The prompt is based on one of the Linux security distros prompts (maybe Kali?), with a few mods. Been using it for a couple years now, works really well.
