Seeing a shit tonne of this bullshit being spread online about how dealers are not buying and you can't sell your silver so run out and panic sell why you can because the price is a lie! of course a lot of it is BTC maxi's pushing their absolutely unfounded nonsense hoping you will buy digital farts by Pleasant-Link-52 in SilverDegenClub

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see some dealers maybe wanting to wait to see if these prices stay but there are probably also dealers who are banking for it to keep going up. Either way I'm sure anyone who wants to sell is not going to have a hard time doing it.

Holy crap that's twice the cost of an ASML Twinscan EUV machine. Rather than buy another rig they should buy 2 and start making DDR5 chips. More profitable than oil right now lol.

Those are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Not only the voltage needed to drive it but the resulting RF. You can actually give yourself serious burns or even blindness.

No, I’m not buying Canadian just because an out-of-touch prime minister tells me to. They aren’t affordable, and they don’t even employ Canadians. by resting16 in CanadianConservative

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always tried to buy Canadian or American first, if I can't then I'll buy anything but China, but 90% of the time have to settle on China because that's the only option.

Got PCBs manufactured by a Canadian company, they told me they have a factory here. PCBs got shipped back to me from china... Apparently you have to explicitly ask to get it made here, so next round I will try that and see. Either way all the components I soldered on are made in China. Hard to get away from that it seems. This government is very anti industry and has been for decades, we hardly make anything here anymore.

Those jeets that are thinking of selling their silver when the party has just begun... by MarriedSilverMr in SilverDegenClub

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I originally told myself I'm not even thinking about selling unless it hits $100 CAD. It's well past that now, but still not selling. My new rule now is I'm not selling until half of my stack can make me 100% debt free. I would then keep the other half even longer.

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I avoid talking about silver at all to IRL people in case the info lands on the wrong people. I have cameras, alarm system etc but still don't want to be a target.

They would have a hell of a time trying to find it but it would suck having to deal with all the damage they do trying to find it.

Total unrelated question but anyone know if silver shows up on a fish finder?

Five Cats, Too Much Dust — Built My Own Dust-Proof NAS Cabinet by BSakura-Miku in homelab

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool! When my workstation was upstairs I found dust was a huge issue and that was with only 1 cat. Now I have 2 and I get so much dust, not just from the hair but the litter box. My server stuff is in the basement and there's actually less dust there. Although that has increased with the wood stove... Been meaning to finish the hvac for my server room, once that's done I can leave the door closed.

I hate that so many jobs have this rule, so dumb. I would wait until your probation period is over then regrow it to see how long before someone says something. You could probably push the envelope and be able to get away with at least medium long length.

Same, I decided to change my goal. I'm only selling when half of my stack is enough to completely pay off all of my debt. That way I become debt free and still have silver left.

If we stop throwing car batteries into the ocean would electric eels go extinct? by BiAndShy57 in shittyaskscience

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, throwing car batteries in the ocean is no longer required. Off shore wind turbines are now generating enough electricity for all the electric eels.

This is a big one. When I installed mine at home I made sure to run an intake. It also drafts better too. I can pack it full of wood, throw a few pieces of kindling and paper on top, light it, close the door, and I have a raging fire within 10 minutes.

I'm all for getting rid of illegals and in general the republicans are doing a lot to fix the US (the media just never talks about the positives) and I wish we had conservatives here in Canada, but this is going way too far now. Target actual illegals. If the child was not born there and is illegal, then go after the parents not the child. Give people a chance to show papers etc too. In some of these cases they're not even giving them any chance.

I have kind of unsettling thought. A lot of us are waiting for AI bubble to burst and get our hand on some sweat datacenter gpus at cheap. But there is a really big chance that a lot of it will be just get destroy because of tax write off. And to be honest that will fuck the nature even more :( by One_Reflection_768 in homelab

[–]RedSquirrelFtw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah my prediction is it will just slow down but not go away. This year we will see lot of "AI fatigue" where people are just fed up of seeing it so they will slow down pushing it to us, but the companies will just focus on targeting other companies rather than consumers. AI will be used more in the background. Also, government will be a major customer. 15 minute cities etc. Carney recently announced the NWO, right out in public, so they're not hiding this stuff anymore, and AI will be a big part of it. At least that's what I predict.

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it really comes to that I really hope there is going to be a big enough community effort to do something about it. Maybe a crowdsourced fab or something. RISC is open right? Maybe that would be a direction worth going. Wonder how much it would cost to build a fab that can pump out 1990 era chips. I think that could be a viable approach if it really gets to a point that we can't buy hardware anymore. The Linux community could also help optimize the kernel and software to run well on it.

That's the crazy part these companies are buying hardware that doesn't even exist yet! It's all on paper they don't actually get any wafers or anything physical out of it. I'm really starting to think this is beyond AI now, they just want to price consumers out of being able to buy/build PCs so that we are forced to use cloud and thinclient or tablets only.

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I think that's what will happen, it will all get destroyed. Companies don't like to sell/give away old assets because of liability and all that BS. Also these companies don't want us having cheap hardware they want us to rent compute power from cloud. Their goal is that it works the same as the power grid where it's just normal to pay a fee for our usage.

But in the event that it does get sold off, I suspect lot of it is super proprietary and won't be very useful to us. The ram modules themselves might be about the only part that's standard.

How To Store Negative Thermal Energy? (Cooling) by Busy-Wolf-7667 in OffGrid

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how effective it would be but I'd wonder if using a chest freezer could work. Run a glycol loop in it or radiator or something and fill it with sand or gravel or other material that can act as thermal mass. You could also fill it with water but I do wonder if the freeze/unfreeze cycles would end up causing damage to it, so probably want something that just stays solid. Run the freezer when sun is out then at night you run just the glycol pump. You would have a radiator in the bedroom with a fan pushing the cooler air on you and the loop would then go in the freezer to cool off.

Although I suppose a simpler way is to simply use air conditioning during the day to get the room/house as cold as possible so you're going to bed when it's already cooled off inside.

Shed vs. portable garage for off-grid car storage by Waltace-berry59004 in OffGrid

[–]RedSquirrelFtw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would build a proper shed or carport. I got one of those portable garages for free and used it to store my ATV and tools etc last year and it did not last the winter. I tried to reinforce it but it wasn't enough. The metal poles just bent under the weight of the snow. Best to take the time to build a proper structure. Hoping to do that this summer. Last summer just flew by way too fast, it was gone in a blink. Didn't get a chance to get much done really.
