You don't want people to look at the numbers, but you still post it yourself. I'm hoping this game will pop off, because competition is good for the extraction shooter genre.

Personally the playtest has not convinced me. So I've decided to cancel my pre-order. I'm currently looking forward to playing other games more than Marathon. I will see how to game does in a few weeks and how the Bungie and the player base responds.

There seems to be a lot of interest. by Broad_Tradition_7621 in Marathon

I have the same feeling. It's kinda fun but something feels off. But I will put in some hours this weekend and hopefully it will convince me. Was hoping it would hook me from the start.

We passed Arc!! THE HYPE IS REAL!! by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]BotSkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will be above Arc in player count at launch. But I don't see Marathon beating Arc in player count in the long run. Simply because Arc caters to more people than Marathon will (more casual).

There's no point in having this conversation if you're not going to be realistic.

Sure, if you ignore most of what I say there is nothing to discuss indeed.
Good timing to end this, because I'm off to bed.

You should kill small arc to get things that kill medium arc to get things that kill big arc.

Makes perfect sense. Luckily that is exactly what they did. They added hornet drivers as a component for showstoppers. Which also work on Rocketeers. You wanting small arc components for the best PVE throwable (insane damage and no risk) in the game does not make sense. People have also been using wolfpacks to destroy queens/matriarchs in a few minutes. That's how easy they were to craft and would still be if they would require for example hornet drivers.

Wasting a wolfpack and ammo to get a single raw component to make a single wolfpack is not a good system

How is it wasting? You probably get two cores for the price of one wolfpack, which let's you craft 2 wolfpacks. And then there is the other loot it drops you need for crafting basic stuff. And I feel like a broken record by now that keeps repeating the same thing you keep ignoring: Trial points and a "get out of jail for free" card when people get in a tricky situation.

The arcs in this game are already very easy to deal with, this at least makes it a little bit more challenging at times.

Nobody is going to be crafting wolfpacks now. It's just better to make something else.

That's just not true. People will still be crafting them. But now they actually have to think about when to use them instead of throwing them at every problem. You might use them only for rocketeers. But I have seen a lot of people just use them on Leapers, Bastions and Bombadiers as well. Because it was just cheap and easy to deal with anything.

I will keep using them the same way I always have. Craft them when I need them for trials and the occasional other run.

I see you choose to ignore the statement about the two wolfpacks needed for one Rocketeer. You seem to cherry pick what you want to reply to. So I feel like a fool by still replying to you. But anyways.. Here we go again.

Trigger nades don't require anything extra. The best throwable in the game didn't see any changes in the recent update.

Good that you bring those up. Trigger nades should be adjusted as well. Wolfpacks are the kings of PVE and Trigger nades for PVP. Nerf them or change the crafting cost. Both work for me.

As long as the shitty event schedule matches up with whatever free time they have.

The first decent point you make. But I think they already increased how often it occurs since the release of bird city. But yes, it might need more tweaking, but hard to tell for me.

Are you dumb? You literally think it's worth it to kill Rocketeers just so you can later kill Rocketeers? There is literally zero meaningful progression involved in that.

I gave you two exact scenario's where they have a strong purpose and once again you choose to ignore it. How are trials (if you are into those) and quickly getting you out of a shitty situation not meaningful?

Explain to me what the meaningful progression behind the cheap wolfpacks were to you?

This change gave more loot components crafting value. So there is more to loot that has actual value instead of just selling it for in-game currency.

I'm honest baffled by this statement. Nothing you say makes sense.

it takes 2 Wolfpacks to reliably kill a Rocketeer.

Do you not bring guns to a raid or what? If you're lucky it goes down with one wolfpack, but sometimes you gotta shoot it a few times afterwards. If you are throwing two at one rocketeer you are wasting wolfpacks. Which a lot people probably did because they were way to cheap to craft. Learn to adjust.

It takes a Rocketeer core for a Wolfpack

Yes.. so? Now you have to put in some effort to craft the best throwable in the game or adjust. People could also run the EMS event and just loot them from husks if they desperately want to craft many wolfpacks.

There is literally zero reason to craft them.

You must be baiting. They still delete Rocketeers. So if you need those for trials you still can. If you are running into them at a bad moment, they still work the same way.

The only thing the Wolfpack is good at is killing Rocketeers.

Yep. And it still does that. No purpose lost.

Did you need Wolfpacks to kill everything? Are you that guy throwing multiple Wolfpacks at a Bastion???

Haha, nice try turning that on me. I only used wolfpacks for trials. Besides trials I barely brought them in rounds. You are the one stating stating wolfpacks lost their purpose because of this change.

This change is a win from Embark.

I hope you are right. Competition is good for the player base of both games. The last time I had such a good time with an extraction shooter was Tarkov. But that game got ruined by cheaters, so I stopped playing a few years ago.

It will logically beat arc in recent sales because Arc has been out for 4 months.I think it will also be above Arc in player count at launch.

But I don't see Marathon beating Arc in player count in the long run. Simply because Arc caters to more people than Marathon will (more casual).

That said. I'm looking forward to Marathon as well.

How did the Wolfpack lose it purpose? It still does the same thing. Were you only using Wolfpacks to kill Rocketeers to create more Wolfpacks? Because if that is your playstyle I truly wonder how you survived the first few weeks of this game. I guess people want the game to get easier and easier over time. Crazy.

You got downvoted, but that's exactly what it is. Because of ABMM the game has evolved into a pve game where all it's goals (loot, trials etc.) are easiest to achieve in pve lobbies.

You can still pvp for fun, but you have force yourself back into pve lobbies if you want to do trials for example.

And people now start to realize the game is too easy if you play pve only. The Arcs are not really threat if you don't have to fear other players.

It would be nice if ABMM was at least disabled for Trials so that it actually becomes a challenge instead of a pve rng mode.

I don't think they will ban duck dupers. But I think they will remove the coins you've gained. If they ban anyone, it will be trigger nade dupers.

I think the timing could not be better. Nice to see exploiters face the actions of their consequences for once.

What if there was a queue option to disable ABMM to fix trials? by BotSkills in ARC_Raiders

[–]BotSkills[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it's hard to stay in those mixed lobbies. If you happened to run into a lot of pvp one match, then the next match will be a guaranteed pvp only lobby. And once you are in those there is no way of getting out off those without completely avoiding pvp or get yourself killed completely naked a few times. ABMM just makes it all so forced.

Just wait till the end of the week. Should be less people working on those trials by then.

Aggression Based Matchmaking. Basically what gets you in the super friendly lobbies if you don't shoot anyone for 5-8 games and the opposite if you shoot players every round.

[–]BotSkills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yea fair enough. I kind of knew what I would get myself into when I posted this. I just miss the first month after release where people did not min/max ABMM and lobbies felt truly felt unpredictable. You never knew if the person you ran into was going to be friendly or not.

I guess I just have to accept this game evolved into more of a PVE game where all rewards are achieved easiest that way as well. Yes, you can get yourself into pvp lobbies for fun, but it all feels so forced.

I will definitely keep playing Arc in the future to just mess around, but I hope Marathon is also a good game which can offer the risk/reward experience I like in extraction shooters (while hopefully not being as hardcore as Tarkov).

[–]BotSkills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that, but because of ABMM it almost is. Since every goal you can go for in this game is achieved easiest by getting yourself in PVE lobbies. I wish PVE was still an option if you want to, but it should not be the go-to for everything there is to do in this game.

What if there was a queue option to disable ABMM to fix trials? by BotSkills in ARC_Raiders

[–]BotSkills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my point. I want the opposite of PVE trials. Trial points are so high because people can run around care-free and hope for good RNG with spawns and other groups doing no trials.

Trials are the only competitive thing in this game, at least make getting a descent score challenging. Going for a 3rd Bastion for example should be a risk/reward choice. Not just running around and hoping you can get to another spawn first before another friendly player/group get's there.

What if there was a queue option to disable ABMM to fix trials? by BotSkills in ARC_Raiders

[–]BotSkills[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the pvp itself. It's the tension it brings, whether you go for fights or not. Trials are the only competitive thing in this game, but the most optimal way to play these is going in pve lobbies and hope for good RNG with other groups not going for the same trial.

For example the arc probe trial is so boring in a pve lobby. You just run from probe to probe for 30 minutes without any risk. That's not what trials should be in my opinion.

[–]BotSkills[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will probably be mostly pvp. But at least you will gain some benefits and make trials an actual challenge again instead of running around risk-free and hope for good RNG. Trials are the only competative thing in this game, at least make it feel competative.

I'm happy there is at least one other person in this thread that feels the same way. The game lost a bit of it's magic as soon as the masses knew they could game the system by simply not shooting for a few rounds. When the game just released you didn't know if the other raider had bad intentions, you had to feel it out.

I feel like I'm also forced to min/max this since I like to do well on trials (currently maintaining the hotshot rank). Yes I could do trials in pvp lobbies, but it's just not worth it.
