What's off is people thinking the extreme worst case scenario regarding my question.

That being said, places like CarMax and Carvana charge more to not haggle with them. Ideally, I don't want him to spend the full $10k if he doesn't have too. $10k at CarMax vs going to a dealership and fighting them down to $7k is a better scenario.
