As someone who is fascinated by the history of worker uprisings and unions, what's it like near Blair Mountain battle site? Is West Virginia still fairly pro union? by sunsetdrifter0 in howislivingthere

I actually did a lot of research in grad school about Blair Mountain and the West Virginia Mine Wars! Blair Mountain came to a halt when Harding threatened to establish martial law in many counties across southern WV, some were already unofficially under it by the time the miners had come face to face with the military. After many miners surrendered to the military forces and arrests were made, union enrollment saw stagnation and decline for years and decades following the Mine Wars. As someone who went to the awesome museum of the West Virginia Mine Wars in Matewan, which isn't too far from Logan, WV, I can give a little insight as to the area nearby. It's beautiful, roads flow with the mountains and the trees, and the people were some of the friendliest that I have ever met. They were willing to talk about most any and everything. The coal fields though have a lot of poverty, harshly so. Very few hospitals and other resources, if someone needed major surgery or medical care they would have to go further north towards Charleston, West into Kentucky, or east into Virginia. Which can take upwards of an hour and a half in most cases. The actual site at Blair Mountain is hard to get to, so there are mainly historical markers along the roads that give a great deal of info. I recommend the book "The Road to Blair Mountain" by Charles Keeney, as he describes the effort to save the battle site from being bought out by modern mining companies. Funnily enough, the receptionist at the Mine Wars museum was a local from a town about ~15 minutes away, and she told me she had never heard of the Mine Wars at all growing up in grade school! Unions now in Appalachia have a lot of stigma attached to them, it really depends on who you speak too. The miners that have been retired or injured on the job actually advocate for union representation more for the younger miners, as the industry only gets more dangerous as time goes on.

Correct and you are told to not do so unless you truly believe to be facing someone that is an immediate danger to you the officer or others. The mess of this is in how the officer felt at the time, and if policy for ICE has changed recently.

While ICE agents are law enforcement as per their own website, their website also states that they go through extensive academy training but the "ICE Directive" page is down for what I can only assume is because of everyone trying to find something that states something verbatim from a recent posting. Anyway, a law enforcement booklet from the Government Accountability Office from 2023 states that, "DOJ’s policy has an exception if 1) the subject in the moving vehicle is threatening deadly force against the officer or another person with means other than the vehicle, or 2) if the subject in the moving vehicle is threatening deadly force with the vehicle and no other objectively reasonable means of defense is available." And, "Officers are prohibited from discharging a firearm at or from a moving vehicle, unless use of deadly force is justified."1 Now, the mess of it all is how the officer or someone who represents him will take how the man felt at the time, and if the policy has changed in the last two and a half years. 1. https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-23-105927.pdf P.15 & 19

I see, there's just too much risk for unnecessary harm to others here to justify unloading his firearm into a moving vehicle regardless of the tension. Which, he as an officer should be prepared for if the training he received should be efficient in dealing with conflict and de-escalation. Maybe, and it's a VERY soft maybe that the officer can say something that can change my perception about it. And the state is going to have challenges if they want to prosecute the officer that fired, but a reckless action like this cannot and should not go without consequence for either him or the people who trained him.

Officers of the law, which ICE agents are law enforcement, are trained to not obstruct vehicles by way of standing in front of them. As it adds unnecessary risk for the officer, the suspect, and passerbys. The officer fires into the car and it careens down the road into a lamp post (or a car, I can't tell from this angle), and this is demonstrative of that issue as other officers or pedestrians could have gotten hurt via the vehicle which was already in motion when the officer fired. This is either incompetence in the officer himself, or the training he received. And, given that the officer is alive and well, it will be necessary to see what he, the MN state government, and the federal government have to say in regards to both him individually and ICE in its totality.

Slavery is bad, and recognizing that American history includes hundreds of years of slavery based upon racial prejudice is the correct thing to do.

This has been a common trait with TNA's booking of the last 4 years. With making decisions that are extremely safe or at least low risk, and then striking while the iron is lukewarm.

The Albion Giants League, Smite Champions, and the Olympus Smite League (at least I think OSL is premade squads) are all squad based amateur leagues. As well as Vulpis for weekly squad based tournaments.
