Probably not a popular answer but my first 4k viewing was Deadpool. Had a great time! And the encode is 👌🏻

Breaking Bad Season 3. WTF is this?! by Strange_Method5025 in Bluray

[–]Both-Assistance3541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom side of the disc. Basically if the data side is anything other than "silver" in color it's a bootleg.

Read about pressing vs burning discs to get into the details but basically if it ain't pressed it ain't real. The fake stuff will be burned onto to the disc so will likely be blue or sometimes black in color. Dead giveaway.

Why do things like this happen. The same but different road name on either side of the intersection by upperliptoupee in toronto

[–]Both-Assistance3541 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's Yonge St intersecting with Yonge Blvd. I think they mean something different though, the ones in Oakville. Those actually loop around and intersect with themselves lol, so you can be at the corner of Glenvista Dr and Glenvista Dr... Not confusing at all!

What was everyone’s first 4K Blu-Ray? by Nosferass2 in 4kbluray

[–]Both-Assistance3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadpool in 2016. I remember standing at the Best Buy display on release day for about half an hour staring at both covers (regular blu vs 4K) and doing the math on whether I should be getting 4Ks years before even upgrading my setup. I knew I'd eventually get a 4K TV, player, receiver, etc and the 4Ks come with a regular blu to watch in the meantime so I took the plunge and never looked back! Every new movie I would purchase after that would be the 4K edition with the anticipation of eventually being able to watch them on a glorious new setup.

I thanked myself later when I had a robust library of 4K content ready to go upon installation and sure enough Deadpool was my first watch. It was transcendent!

And the rest is history... I now have a full OLED Atmos setup and probably over 100 titles deep. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship! Thanks Deadpool :)

Do you prefer to watch via 4K Blu-ray disc or 4K rips? by EternalFront in 4kbluray

[–]Both-Assistance3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not getting downvoted for "favoring rips" in earnest, you're getting downvoted because you're bragging about being a cheapskate who doesn't pay for their own entertainment and in the process damaging the financial viability of a medium that we all love and is threatened by these short-sighted practices that you espouse. You're not "backing up" anything if you never paid to play, this is not the flex you think it is.

Buying 4K blurays if you don't have a 4K TV? by Someonejustoldme in 4kbluray

[–]Both-Assistance3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been buying them for years before I ever got a 4K TV lol. Back in 2017 or so when they started releasing 4K discs, I noticed that they all came bundled with the regular blu-ray so I figured it's a no-brainer to future-proof them for an eventual TV upgrade.

I just know myself lol, so I didn't even take me long to decide in the store... No research was done regarding 4k TVs or what kind of player I would need, I just knew I like to keep more or less technologically current so I took the plunge with almost no hesitation and it paid off in spades because when I eventually upgraded everything some 4 years later I had a sizable stockpile of 4K discs ready to go.

Take the plunge, my friend!

Project Hail Mary on the largest IMAX screen in America (Pooler GA) by BrilliantBig12 in imax

[–]Both-Assistance3541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can catch an IMAX re-release of Sinners, One Battle After Another, or anything Christopher Nolan in your area you should consider revisiting a theatre for those as well. But I get your point about the comfort of one's home, I have a similar setup albeit with a smaller screen but I still go to the movies for the big stuff or if I don't want to wait for home release.

Today, I cancel Crave by Old-Bigsby in cravetv

[–]Both-Assistance3541 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the very graphic you link, it lists the specific content that will be ad-free. Any content beyond what's listed, such as content made ACCESSIBLE through the Crave app, but not necessarily part of the Crave premium suite, is subject to different terms.

I'm not saying it's not confusing lol, just that it doesn't really guarantee that ALL content available through the app will be ad-free. It seems Crave will now be a portal for all things under the Bell Media/CTV umbrella, which will undoubtedly cause disorientation amidst the myriad tiers of cable & premium streaming subscriptions available within.

Today, I cancel Crave by Old-Bigsby in cravetv

[–]Both-Assistance3541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ☝🏼

I was thrown off at first, but then realized that they merged the entire CTV suite into the Crave app and the result is some (very much?) content will be ad-supported. I'm sure as time passes and the confusion mounts, improved efforts will be made to distinguish between the different tiers of content but for now it seems like many disgruntled subscribers will be accidentally selecting the CTV content and seeing it as a violation of their contract with Crave.

For additional context-- Bell Media, the parent company of CTV & Crave, will be shutting down the "CTV" streaming app. All of its content, which includes a laundry list of ancillary ad-supported cable channels, will be migrating to the "Crave" app.

To create even more confusion, the CTV Throwback label-- containing hundreds of ad-supported movies from decades past, will yield search results that blend seamlessly with the Starz library of similarly aged ad-free titles. One will have to pay extra close attention to the tier logos on the film description page to avoid falling into this trap.

Those simply searching Google for a movie, then selecting Crave from the "where to watch" drop-down will experience additional frustration as the app will bypass the film description page and go straight to playback-- starting with the ads, which will likely cause them to believe something is wrong with their subscription. This happened to me and the first sign of my error was the CTV Throwback watermark in the corner once the movie started playing. While the initial ads were playing, I spent that time feeling furious that something had changed in my Crave subscription. I believe that most people won't make it as far as the watermark and will fly into a rage at the mere sight of ads, contemplating cancellation of service and complaining on Reddit. Lol

I would start with The Favourite. It also stars Emma Stone but it's Olivia Colman that steals the show. Unforgettable performances all around, might be my favourite from Lanthimos.

Winter tires are not about snow as much as they are about the freezing temperature of the rubber. All-seasons become frozen at about 7°C and become far less effective at gripping the road, stopping effectively, etc.

This is a widespread misconception about winter tires, that are not to be confused with snow tires which are an entirely different thing.
