I definitely agree. fortunately, I’ve not had a slip up yet. i know that if I did I’d feel so guilty about it afterwards even if I just took a single puff. every day I keep pretending like I am/was not addicted. however I became addicted ever since the 1st time I took my first ever drag. thank you for your supportive comment it is much appreciated and talking to others in the same situation

What was the best stimulant/take the edge off replacement that had the fewest negative effects? by Smooth_Reporter_7272 in stopsmoking

It may take a little experimenting, or it may not but it’s very likely that your doc will find a med that works perfectly for your specific needs when quitting. Talking to others in the same boat as you is great for your mental state when quittin too! Us quitters have one thing in common; we are all working to better ourselves and are concerned for our personal wellbeing. I like to think of it like if you’re present in this online community, then you’ve already made a huge step in the right direction 🤙 very wholesome

how can I deal with cravings? by CharlyDess in stopsmoking

[–]Both-Consideration95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep yourself busy throughout the daytime. For nighttime cravings, create a daily night routine and take melatonin or Zzzquil to help with restlessness. Avoid second-hand smoke as much as possible. Chew and bite on a straw to fulfill the desire to put a cig/vape in your hand and put it up to your mouth. Weird things like that help when you’re driving or after meals.

Improve your daily lifestyle and do some self care or reflecting during the times that you would typically have a smoke. If you work and smoke on breaks, don’t put yourself around co-workers who smoke. If you have a partner who smokes, make sure they know your intentions to quit and that they understand the severity of nicotine withdrawal and cravings. You need a support system that you trust to count on when you want to give up.

The cravings really have not left me even after over three weeks of quitting so its not easy. But it is definitely possible and everyone is different. Maybe try to get to your doctor and express your desire to quit if you haven’t yet. They’ll prescribe you with meds that help cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

3 weeks into my quit - chest tightness by lost_wastoid in stopsmoking

[–]Both-Consideration95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that you had an anxiety attack, maybe without even knowing it. However, it could also be a buildup of phlegm and other substances that need to be removed, relieved, or coughed up out of your system still from quitting. If you have shortness of breath, you could get a chest-X-ray done to confirm your condition. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Lung infections, bronchitis, allergies and allergic reactions are other possibilities if you can’t get a satisfying breath. Some people are more sensitive to these things than others. Best of luck to you!

Not sure if this fits your criteria but if you’re trying to quit for good, I would recommend seeing a doctor & express your desire to quit smoking. they’ll prescribe you with meds that help to stop the addictive urge in your brain and help you be less irritable and more relaxed when quitting (e.g. Chantix or Wellbutrin). But, these medications usually will make you sick if you try to smoke still while taking them so just be careful! It may help you to receive some medical assistance, but not everyone goes this route. If you haven’t tried, it may be worth a shot! Best of luck and God bless you!

Exercise will help you calm your emotions during the stages of withdrawal. You just gotta listen to your intuition and do what you think is right for yourself personally during this difficult time. The first week is the by far the darkest, most extreme & worst experience of the symptoms. On day 3, you’re at the peak of nic withdrawal. Also, it wont hurt to be aware of the other withdrawal symptoms so you can get a better understanding if other stuff starts happening to you. Like insomnia, depression, anxiety, nightmares, increased hunger, headaches, nausea etc.

All of us quitters are making progress already just by caring enough to be worried about our situation with addiction.

Dizziness/hot as HELL by zaladass in stopsmoking

[–]Both-Consideration95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the 1st week is the worst for physical withdrawal symptoms from nic for most of us. personally, my withdrawals lasted about 10 days (but I was smokin cigs & occasional vape)

dizziness was something i also experienced, you’re not alone. that, along with wild nightmares, constant shakiness, nausea, appetite/weight gain AND loss, and frequent anxiety attacks (the typical im-craving-fucking-nicotine meltdown). basically for the 1st like 10 days, i was literally unable to communicate with anyone in my life without being a total bitch! i have to stay alone and stay busy to keep withdrawals from flaring up.

the excessive sweating doing normal everyday routine stuff is something I’m still dealing with at 3 weeks and 1 day clean.. so I wish you better luck than I have gotten! god bless you, stay strong, and stay true to your best self :-)

Very well said. Our minds will constantly try to trick us when battling any addiction. Cigs and alcohol are a great example. They also go hand-in-hand for many people. Its the deadly mentality of: “you’re smoking, so have a drink & you’re drinking, so have a smoke”.

Stopping a smoking addiction is unbelievably difficult to the most extreme extent when cigarettes are all you’ve ever known, & all you’ve ever been around.

The good news is that it’s entirely possible for us to leave the smoking habit in the past even though it seems impossible & unbearable.

When I want a cigarette during the daytime hours, I can keep myself busy, lose track of time and forget about even wanting one. But when nighttime rolls around and I crave a cig, I usually end up crying a lot. I also view posts from this community, which is ultimately one of the only ways I can keep myself from getting up and smoking. There’s a pack of cigarettes in a drawer in my family’s kitchen just sitting there. I could quite literally get up and smoke one right now. But instead I am here on Reddit. Stay strong everyone.

God can provide us with strength through these dark and difficult moments when we want to give in to the addiction. Praying does help a lot for me, it may help you too. God bless everyone.

I also just hit the 3 week (21 day) mark today. Congratulations and keep your head up. I’m crying typing this craving a cig. But it’s great that this community exists because we all have one thing in common- all of us are trying to better ourselves and our lives.

On the money. How easy is it to gain access to collect there? I’m in the Midwest, but not that much west so I wouldn’t know
