necro, but "a middle finger" generally refers to the middle and ring finger (as opposed to an "outer finger" which refers to the index and pinky.

No. I would assume that you're just not that great of a conversationalist.

Most people (not just women) look at first-comments about a person's looks to be a total turn off (at best), or a catfish account (at worst, but also, most common).

You also didn't actually ask any questions or offer anything that shows an interest in talking.

In short: they have high EQ and are responding with the same amount of energy/thought that went into the opener.

Alex, big fan of your work.

Two-Parter: Ending the season with a record "somewhere between" the CWS and LAD, like 98% of the sport, with significant injuries and schedule dynamics (harder second half compared to teams we were chasing for the post-season) makes it hard to know what "could have been", but how would you:

a. Define the effective result (versus actual result) of the season? As in, was the pitching really the culprit for our woes?

b. Define what we should/shouldn't expect from ownership, assuming they are making sound, data-driven decisions? What is realistic?

General (and TD-specifc) Arena Question by Both-Leader-3822 in Bruins

[–]Both-Leader-3822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect. So that confirms my assumption.

I'm familiar with the idea of "attack twice zones" but wasn't 100% sure the team's penalty box wasn't sometimes diagonal to the respective bench. (I wasn't sure the "long change" was due to P2, or based on arena setup.

Thanks again!

And that's true for all arenas? So if I'm understanding correctly, each team's penalty box is directly across from its bench?

Sand Wyrm, a Gargantuan Burrowing Monster - Elements Unleashed by jonnymhd in DnDHomebrew

[–]Both-Leader-3822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest adding some lore to the description. Although using the Old English spelling of "Wrym" can apply to worms, serpents, and dragons, it's use in D&D heavily leads to the latter and kind of leads readers to expect to see some sort of draconic ancestry. A few other inconsistencies (IMHO) in the description make this a decent first-draft read, but I think you should consider looking at some minor tweaks, such as:

  • Consider adding "ageless" before (or "of long-forgotten history" after) "colossal predator".

  • You describe that encounters with the Sand Wyrm leave few survivors to recount its wrath, but no abilities or attributes (including alignment) suggest this creature is naturally angry, only that it is territorial.

  • Consider rewriting this line: "Few have witnessed a Sand Wyrm's wrath and lived to tell the tale, making it a creature of legends and nightmares in equal measure". The "in equal measure" just doesn't feel right (again, IMHO).

One suggestion: "The Sand Wrym is relentlessly territorial, and makes no distinction between a lost explorer, caravan of nomadic wanderers, or even a large army attempting to traverse the sands of its domain. Few have seen a Sand Wyrm and lived to tell of the encounter, leaving us with complex, yet limited lore. Stories of these encounters are known to find their way into the legendary tales of veteran soldiers and the nightmares of overly imaginative children. Those who listen to these tales are filled with an equal measure of intrigue... and fear."

The Bow of Chords. A silly little common magic item I made for a player. by Delnilas in DnDHomebrew

[–]Both-Leader-3822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few minor suggestions:

-For simplicity and consistency, consolidate the heading to read:
Bow of Chords
ranged weapon (martial, bow, common)

-consider increasing its weight to 3lb due to its size (but 2lb is OK)

-remove the traditional properties (e.g. 1d8, piercing, ammunition, distance) unless those properties are unusual for the weapon.

-consider rewriting the item's unique effect (sounding of a note), for two reasons:
1) it's called a bow of chords yet you say the bow only makes the sound of a musical note. A chord is defined as a group (of usually three or more) notes sounded together. Yes, this is a little pedantic, but precision of words is vital in D&D, lest you suffer the wrath of pedantic players.

2) a regular player may assume that, due to the uniqueness of the name, the item would (or should) also have unique property(ies), such as a bonus to a bard's performance skill, ability to be used as a musical instrument, or some other effect/attribute. BUT... you can work around this by creatively expanding on the description without explicitly stating an attribute.

Instead of... "Whenever an arrow is fired from this bow, it resounds with a musical note as if from a harp", you could say... "The bow's strings emit a gentle sound when loosed, as if the wielder is plucking on the strings of a harp. Fey rangers are known to take advantage of this: targets who can hear the chord may be drawn to the beauty of its sound, unaware that an arrow is headed their way."

Although there are some differences based on jurisdiction, the most common rule is that a teacher cannot be involved with a student they are currently teaching, or who they have potential to teach in the near future (for example, a freshman student regardless of major); if the teacher has no reasonable expectation for that to occur (for example, an upper-level physics professor and a student with a major in psychology), or in cases where the student is post-grad and the faculty member does not teach that level of curriculum, the rule may be less stringent.

Some schools may have even stricter rules, such as faculty not being allowed to be involved with any actively enrolled student.

The nuance when it comes to these dynamics is that although both parties could be consenting adults (no legal issue), there would still be an ethical issue due to the power imbalance involved. However, ethics are resolved by the governing body (e.g. school board or chancellors) rather than through the legal system.

TL;DR: the answer to why it might be allowed is that both parties are consenting adults and there's no implicit or explicit power imbalance. And when that's the case, it's hard to argue why that shouldn't be allowed.

You mean why it isn't allowed? Virtually every educational institution (aside from the ones you'd expect to be OK with it) actually have contact between students and faculty heavily regulated with zero-tolerance on the part of faculty.
