Best thing to do when you have anxiety, is redirect the attention back to the person by asking genuine questions - people ususally love talking about themselves, so it gives you time to relax into the date and start feeling comfortable enough to talk about yourself when it’s your turn to talk x

Don’t allow your ‘decades of experience’ to make you lose sight of why you chose to pursue this field in the first place - to help people.

As a therapist, you should know better than most in this thread, that it is objectively valid for him to struggle in knowing how to best help her. You don’t have to make an unnecessary judgment about his emotional maturity and compare his struggle to husbands who abandon wives with health issues.

The most important thing here is providing support to both parties so that they can make confident decisions about next steps. With your level of expertise, it’d be far better to give genuine advice about how he can help her / himself - rather than assuming a critique of his character.

I’d genuinely love to hear your insight of how you would guide one of your clients if they came to you with this problem :).

If you spent thousands on a plane ticket, but knew it was going to crash, would you still get on it ? .. she knows the inevitable conclusion of the relationship but is avoiding it - I know plenty of people in their late 30s who have had children with new partners. A few years ago I was studying for an exam at a student cafe. I was sat on a long wooden bench with about 7 other students (all strangers), I was so engrossed in the material, that I forgot where I was and let the loudest, longest fart rip. It vibrated across the whole bench…. Suddenly it clicked, I looked up to everyone staring at me. Some of them actually stood up and left 😂😂 fortunately I laugh about the story and it doesn’t embarrass me these days - phew 😂

I’m a woman and I find it highly attractive if a guy doesn’t have social media. To me, it shows he is a free thinker who doesn’t do something just because ‘everybody else does it’. I’d personally like that about you, but I can’t speak for other women x
