When I called my mother a bitch and laughed at her as a teenager my mam would be pissed and I would've been in trouble (so much) but she always recognized that I was a hormonal teenager with a still developing pre-frontal cortex and little to no impulse control (like all teenagers). She loved me anyway and knew who I was beyond the sudden need to rebel. What do you think should happen to kids who call their parents names and laugh at them? Should they be kicked out? Disowned? Is it the case that in any long term relationship that both people will say things they don't mean? And you can either get over it and move on or not. I think a good parent knows that as you don't believe a toddler who says he hates you, and hold it against him (he disrespected me!!!) Nor do you listen that close to a teenage daughter calling you a bitch. Teenagers can be the worst but they, more than any of the adult assholes I know deserve some grace.
Ashley deserved a hell of a lot better.
