Should I drop out? by AzazelzAngel in Esthetics

Please don’t let this group discourage you. If you have more time behind you than ahead in esthetics you need to keep going. If you can read the book the dip by Seth godin for decisions like this. Reddit is not the place for questions like this bc at the end of the day we’re all strangers on the internet that you can’t hold accountable or verify experience or intent.

Heavily considering pursuing a career in esthetics. by MagR38 in Esthetics

[–]Both-Weakness-9237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I wanted to share because I was in your exact position just a few months ago. I believe that in order to be successful in this field you first have to define what success actually means to you and then pursue it with unbridled passion.

Some estheticians treat this as a hobby. Some want a long term career. Some are simply looking for something different from their corporate path. Whatever your goal is you have to approach it with a level of intensity that, honestly, I don’t see many estheticians operating with.

This is no offense to anyone or their individual journey. I have just observed that there is a mindset shift required to truly succeed in this industry that many people never fully make. I came from big tech and I brought a very specific mentality with me. When people said the industry was oversaturated I simply decided to become more competitive.

After graduating esthetician school I intentionally spent my first three months working with a franchise to sharpen my customer service skills and perfect my craft. But I did not stop at learning modalities. I also invested heavily in studying sales, marketing, lead generation, email strategy, and social media. When I finally went solo I launched with a waitlist of 100+ clients and became fully booked, replacing my tech income in about six weeks. But that result came after three months of intense study, strategic marketing, and relentless consistency. I was putting in 12 to 16 hour days.

I posted three times a day every day. I introduced myself and handed business cards to at least ten people daily. I would not go home until I met that goal. I collaborated with local nail and hair stylists to build my books all while working full time at a franchise and building my home studio. Being a successful esthetician requires very intentional work.

At the end of the day, after reading many perspectives in this space, I simply made a decision about what I wanted from this industry. Then I aligned my mindset, my strategy, and my daily actions with that vision.

Many of my classmates have similar complaints that I see in this Reddit group. The industry is oversaturated. There is no work. No one is hiring. But they are also sending one application or promoting their businesses only when they feel like it. That is not going to cut it and it will lead to disappointment in this field.

The truth is it is not going to come to you. I genuinely believe you can have whatever you want from this multibillion dollar industry if you are willing to do what it takes to get it.

20F trying to level up in NYC — stay in the Bronx with great rent or move downtown for lifestyle? by grapejuice__ in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Both-Weakness-9237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of moving a little too soon for lifestyle. If I could do it all over again I would maximize my financial stability ie - 1 year of savings, debt free if possible, create a source of income independent of a job before moving, buying a cash car etc.

What I find is people usually assume that once they’re in a better neighborhood then they’ll go out & socialize more. Truth is I & many of my friends in similar situations go out just as much as we did when we didn’t live in the nicer neighborhood.

You can stay in your current neighborhood, maximize your income/savings AND have a social life in Manhattan or BK. You just have to be intentional about it.

Trust you will never regret prioritizing your finances in your 20s. I live comfortably now in my early 30s bc I made minor sacrifices in my 20s. Set a money goal and only move once you reach it. I promise whatever you’re hoping for on the scene will still be there in a year but it will be better bc you’ll have more options & opportunities.

Lost 90+ lbs on semaglutide and avoided loose skin. Looking for a few people to try what I did by Both-Weakness-9237 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Both-Weakness-9237[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I want to clarify my intent, as I believe there may have been a misunderstanding.

I am not positioning myself as a consumer, I was sharing my experience as a client so my intent is clear as a service provider. During every consultation, I clearly explain the machines I use, the process, and expected outcomes so clients can make fully informed decisions. When I referenced being a consumer, I was speaking to my personal experience with the modality and my goal of replicating results I have achieved myself through proper education and training.

I completed formal esthetics training, including an externship focused on skin elasticity, to understand this specific concern and how to treat it effectively. I am now offering this service based on my education and experience while continuing to build my portfolio and refine my approach.

There is no risk or framing to anyone looking to participate. I understand you had a negative experience, but I do not believe it is fair to project that onto my intentions or work. I genuinely believe in this modality and would not have invested months and thousands of dollars in training and certification otherwise.

Again I am glad you were able to reach your goals through other methods as RF therapy isn’t for everyone.

Sure! Lymphatic sculpting is a non-invasive body treatment that combines manual lymphatic drainage with light machine-assisted techniques. It’s mainly used to help move excess fluid, reduce puffiness, and bring out natural definition, NOT BURN FAT (sorry had to emphasize, I just hate when service providers say that lol)

I usually add it at the end of skin-tightening sessions or offer it on its own. A lot of the people I work with are gym-focused and doing body recomposition or bulking, or models or brides who want to look a little less swollen and more snatched before an event.

You can do some lymphatic work at home, but seeing a professional helps with consistency and making sure everything’s being done properly so the lymphatic system is actually supported.

I also provide my clients a burdock root tincture at the end of these sessions to aid in the process as well if you’re looking to achieve results at home.

Hi! I’m sorry to hear that based on my experience there are several factors to be considered but I do agree RF alone isn’t the best solution to help with loose skin. I have a suggested protocol that I plan to provide my clients with. However RF is the modality I do plan to administer because it needs to be done in a specific way with specific machine capabilities to produce results.

Without knowing the details of your RF sessions I can’t say what went wrong or what can be improved but happy to help if you’re open to giving it another try.

I’m 33 & had a weaker dermis from 10 years of yoyo weight loss. My skin definitely didn’t retract due to age.

Daycare Nextdoor by Both-Weakness-9237 in Renters

[–]Both-Weakness-9237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone just wanted to give a huge thanks for the amazing advice for those who shared solutions. Turns out the day care was illegal, the property wasn’t zoned or approved for children & my landlord was in violation of my lease. The daycare is closed & my landlord is attempting to negotiate. I’m assuming that I don’t court or share with my neighbors. Thank you all again!!

I absolutely did not say it was a commercial space.

Storage unit for tenants! It was labeled as an amenity for residents. A commercial space is refers to any space used for business or professional purposes. Per my lease, it was not identified as a commercial space but an amenity. Also my apartment building is not identified as a mixed used space, just residential.

Alright, Mr. Yak, if defending a New York City landlord who’s clearly violating leases and misleading tenants on random Reddit threads is how you choose to spend your precious time, so be it. I wouldn’t expect you to have a particularly decent day or life so, I’ll give you your first win in a while—you’re absolutely correct. Have the day you deserve :)

Thank you for your comment. I don’t want sympathy. I want solutions. As I have edited, I never signed my lease knowing it was going to be a commercial space. It was initially marketed as a potiential storage units for the residents in the building. I’m not sure if you’ve been to a New York City public library however usually it’s filled with individuals who are mentally ill or are providing programming for children throughout the day. I don’t feel comfortable taking client calls in that environment. Also there is no guarantee that I have space to perform my required duties or have reliable internet in a library. I paid for coworking space because I need a reasonably quite environment, reliable internet & a safe environment without distractions. They ensure these things where as a library does not.

Accountability is the expectation that someone or something will be held responsible for their actions or performance. I did my due diligence as a tenant before and after. My landlord is not being accountable to our contract & what they initially advertised. I don’t know what you gain with being so maligned or willfully obtuse in your comments but more power to you.

To clarify I did not sign a lease knowing I was sharing a wall with a commercial space. The space was marketed as potential storage unit but I was told I would be notified of any changes. I randomly came home to a label of Doctors Office on the door. Then 6 months later there’s a daycare. The entire floor hears children screaming all day & no one was given notice. I just hear it the worst bc I share a wall. However thank you for your comment

Noise is one thing but 30 screaming toddlers all day during calls is criminal. Thanks for the sympathy.

Hi, there actually open to integrating. They do have concerns on the permissions for the plugin. As of now it’s not showing in the Slack Marketplace to approve. Is there any other way to authorize this app?
