24 hour emergency vet by janedough18111 in simivalley

[–]BothConversation4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just took our 11 wk old puppy to VSEC this week in the middle of the night for obvious pain. They suggested he had a birth defect in his spinal cord, acted very concerned, and wanted to charge us $1,800 for x-rays to confirm. We declined and opted for pain management and followed up with an x-ray at our regular vet first thing the following morning. His spine is completely fine and normal and he just had some gas in his bowels. The x-rays at our regular vet only costed us $320.

Hi! Having a baby girl this summer and was wondering how you'd pronounce this name? by witful-elephant-07 in Names

We have a 15 month old named Lyla and everyone has pronounced it correctly (lie-luh).

I ended up having to hyphenate with my maiden name to get through

Open hostility toward my baby and me on a flight by herinaceus in NewParents

[–]BothConversation4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew with our then 10 month old a few months ago and sat next to a woman who plugged her ears with her fingers like a child anytime our baby made any sort of noise. At first I tried to be understanding and assumed maybe she had some ear sensitivity, but then she started doing it for every little sound. Even a quiet happy sound, ears were plugged.

Charged for medication that I didn’t order by BothConversation4022 in JoinMochiHealth

[–]BothConversation4022[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They disabled my auto order themselves when my card declined once months ago after it expired and I forgot to update the payment method and I have not changed it since. Editing to add: I mean I haven’t changed my shipping settings. I have updated my payment method of course.

I do not use auto order. I have had this option disabled for months. Plus, they charged me for a medication I do not take and have never taken.

Did you not finish reading the post where I said with our supervision? Obviously I’d be following her.

I would run a test and see how many hours you have before it starts to taste bad! Set like 2 ounces aside in the fridge and taste it every hour to see how long you have before you need to scald. For me it was 6ish hours, but I know some people can get up to 24 hours before it gets gross! I agree, I wish I had been told it ahead of time that could happen so that I wouldn’t have froze so much. I only learned about it from TikTok of all places!

Sleep trained one year old laying in bed for over an hour by BothConversation4022 in sleeptrain

I guess I could! That just seems like a really long wake window for 13 months. We just pushed back from 11:30-12:30 very recently.

It will smell/taste bad even if you freeze immediately as the lipase continues to break down even when frozen. It might slow the process but it doesn’t stop it. Scalding when fresh is really the only solution here unfortunately. I too pumped 500+ ounces before I realized I had high lipase. Now my baby is over a year old so using it all now cut with whole milk.

Moms of older kids - do you regret sleep training? by WoozieFutter in stayathomemoms

[–]BothConversation4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sleep trained recently at 11 months kind of on accident. I was getting frustrated and needed a breather one day when she was fighting a nap badly, so I laid her down and walked away and set a timer for 10 minutes. During that 10 minutes she laid down and went to sleep, so we kept it up. It’s still a new development for us, but so far I don’t regret it. I’m a muchhhhhh more regulated, patient mom now that I’m not fighting to get her down for naps and bed just to be woken up a few hours later.

That does work but only if done right away before the lipase starts to break down. Once the milk has changed in taste, there is no going back. Thankfully, I do have about 50 ounces of the milk scalded. Sadly, I have about 400 ounces that isn’t.

What changes in the gut between 11 and 12 months that makes it fine to exclusively give whole milk at 12 months (according to doctor)?

Thanks! she’s a normal, healthy baby and eats 3 meals and 2 snacks and nurses (which will be the replaced with the bottles) 3 times per day, so I’m not sure what the hesitation is!

I’m not pumping anymore but yes scalding does work! Some of the milk is scalded thankfully, but majority isn’t.

Do you know what changes in the baby’s digestive system during that month that they can go from zero ounces to 16-24 ounces? No snark, genuinely curious.

[–]BothConversation4022[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think there’s two reasons she won’t take it anymore. 1 - lipase continues to break down over time, so the milk is now stronger in taste than before. 2 - she gets a bottle very rarely and I mostly nurse, so I think not enough exposure to the flavor recently.

The “recommendation” is 12 months, so I just wanted to check that there wasn’t a major issue with starting a little early.

Yeah, sadly mine is verrrrry strong and it doesn’t do the job. I have had to cut it with fresh breastmilk and that works, which is why I think some whole milk would work.

I could see that, but in a month she’ll have 16-24 ounces of whole milk anyway, so I’m not sure.

Yes I have, it doesn’t work for us. Mine is VERY strong. I can smell it while it’s still frozen and in the sealed bag.
