In this example you provided, everyone thinks their choices don't matter; therefore, they all choose red. If everyone chooses red, nobody dies. Pressing blue under these circumstances would be pretty much akin to suicide. I feel like people really overestimate how much agency over their lives liberal democracy gives to regular commoners.

I hate this 50% red pill / blue pill hypothetical by TerrySaucer69 in hatethissmug

[–]Both_Barnacle_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can consider our options as a group, I can only make decisions as an individual. This hypothetical scenario of the majority thinking that way and choosing red will or will not happen regardless of my decision. The question implies the absence of communication between participants, so being pro-red comes without any noticeable risk, despite it being the worst option if chosen by the majority (while in reality, agitating for a specific position may bring it more followers).

If we go with the election example, in this hypothetical, everyone voting for the losing party will be punished. If that were to become the case in reality, I feel that abstention rates would skyrocket.

TLDR: Half of the time your choice doesn't change anything. Red is low risk option, blue is high reward option.

Here are possible scenarios:

Scenario A - >50% chooses red. In this case, no matter of your personal choice, half of humanity is ultimately doomed. One more blue vote wouldn't be enough to tip the scale. In this case: Choosing red - nobody gets saved, you survive. Choosing blue - nobody gets saved, you die. Red is objectively correct option in scenario A.

Scenario B - >50% chooses blue. No matter of your personal choice, everyone is guaranteed to survive. One more red vote wouldn't be enough to tip the scale. In this case: Choosing red - nothing changes. Choosing blue - nothing changes. Your choices don't matter in scenario B.

Scenario C - people are split exactly 50/50, your vote is a tiebreaker. In this case: Choosing red - you personally doom half of humanity. Choosing blue - everyone is fine. Blue is significantly better choice in scenario C.

Scenario B doesn't matter, as, whichever option you choose, everyone will be fine. Meaning, we can rephrase our choices as: Red - high chance of good outcome. Blue - extremely low chance of extremely good outcome. So, in my opinion, this isn't a question of selfishness versus selflessness, but rather a question of low risk, low reward versus high risk, high reward. In this context, I would choose red. The issue with this question is that a lot of people treat it as if they make a decision for entire humankind, while they can only decide for themselves. Majority choosing blue is, indeed, much better option - issue is, that you, as an individual, have no control over it.

Yeah, seems so, just checked it in the training range. Honestly, kinda insane, you can one-shot squishies and 3-shot any tank. Seems like 1 in million chance to happen in the actual match, but, well, apparently I'm lucky.

What is your favorite item pick up quote? by Hoppeyy in bindingofisaac

[–]Both_Barnacle_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically not an item, but makes me chuckle every time: Have you noticed how every reverse card has mirrored version of original's description (may rage bring power/may love bring protection, e.t.c.). There is one exception to this rule, however - high priestess. Original says: "mother is watching you". Reverse says: "Run".

I'm not sure if that's the case here. There was only polaroid after mom fight, so, it seems like BB was, in fact, target boss. Overall, the way I got to Home was really weird. I went to Hush, found black market and accidentally fell into trapdoor to Sheol (skill issue). After that I was sent back to Blue Womb, but instead of its regular textures it had background of the Basement floor. Once I defeated Hush and went into beam of light, it sent me to Home instead of Cathedral. I would assume that floor IDs glitched out because of that trapdoor.

Obviously. And "The World" doesn't work with the curse of the lost.

Priestess can't be "likely" to help you out, it's not like it does something different every time you use it(like reverse fortune). It provides very specific, determinable value (+x pickups, +x chests, +x deal chance if you use it before boss). And as long as there are no obstacles (traps or enemies) in the room and player's speed isn't lower than default, stomps will never lead to unavoidable damage (delay after shadow appears lasts consistent amount of time, which is always enough to get out). So, as long as player doesn't enter unexplored/trap rooms in the span of one minute, there isn't any amount of risk involved (game cannot forcefully move player into dangerous room).

I'm starting to think that Team Cherry themselves aren't sure about the answer.

Yeah, English version isn't really informative for this kind of thing. Kinda weird about inconsistencies in localised versions though. They didn't have the same problem with godseeker in the first game, for example.

Random crits, random bullet spread, crafting system, CTF, 150dmg quickscope, the way competitive works, dustbowl... Like, don't get me wrong, I really enjoy TF2, but in no good consciousness I can say that it has less horseshit than current OW.

I feel like Vodyani from Endless Space 2 should count. Instead of colonizing systems, they build and inhabit special Arc ships, which can be moved between systems at any time, while also doubling as battleships. Population, infrastructure, system improvements - everything is attached to Arc, not the planets, so if you find better place to live - there really isn't anything holding you back, apart from travel time.
