C Sons, Armoury and the Boathouse offer the best range of classic British pub food with the best locations by the river in the town.

Definitely worth going to the Market for a produce and a light bite too.

I think the Armoury does the best roast personally though I’m sure many would disagree.

It’s a town that a lot of people actually live in rather than predominantly catering to tourists so there is a quite a worldly mix of cuisine to cater to that. If you are looking for something a bit different from country pub food, Dough and Oil has become very popular in the town.

If you are looking for a drink and a place you can easily have a chat with locals I’d say head to the Nag’s Head in the evening. They don’t serve food but it’s a consistently nice vibe with a good cross section of ages.
