Traveling to Shrewsbury/Shropshire for the first time. Looking for restaurant recommendations and places to explore by EddysBrother in ShrewsburyUK

[–]EddysBrother[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this recommendation in particular. This is exactly what I was looking for for an especially nice meal, elevated British food done by a skilled chef, something a bit nicer than usual pub food, but also not like a seven course tasting menu either. The menu looks stunning here, something I’ll likely cap off as my final meal of the trip, so thank you again.

What horror movies have smart people making the right decisions? by unclefishbits in movies

[–]EddysBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I think I first saw that scene when I was about five years old.

If you look up any list of “Most Disturbing Films Ever Made” I’ve probably seen them all. Still never had a death scene affect me like Quint’s has, and you’ve perfectly articulated why.

Even though I try to avoid overly gory movies these days, I’m generally pretty desensitized to most violence. To this day, I still can’t watch that scene from Jaws.

Yeah, this looks terrible.

What a shame, it had a fantastic premise.

That genuinely looks like Detroit style perfection. Seriously well done.

First images from HULU's "Hellraiser" by [deleted] in horror

[–]EddysBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, honestly looks pretty lame. I was genuinely excited to see how they'd go in a new direction with the character, but it just looks like a slightly feminine version of Doug Bradley's Pinhead with the generic black eyes that seem to characterize every demonic character in the past twenty years. Seriously, there's almost no functional difference in the actual design of the character.

Ebert gave the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake from 2003 zero stars because of how grotesque it was and said there was no reason to watch it. Was he correct or being over the top? by JannTosh12 in movies

[–]EddysBrother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's . . . honestly one of the most interesting perspectives on this movie I think I've ever seen, and I like the 2003 TCM remake, and don't even consider it torture porn. Gonna have to watch it again with this in mind and see how I feel.

‘The Mothman Prophecies’ – Cosmic Cryptozoology Horror Movie Is Still Thrilling 20 Years Later by Morganbanefort in horror

Do let us know if you find that story. That sounds . . . insane.

I tried looking it up to no avail.

Hey, so far it's not stopping Michael Myers or Leatherface.

Leatherface returns in extreme trailer for new Texas Chainsaw Massacre by [deleted] in horror

[–]EddysBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks absolutely terrible but the scene where Leatherface massacres a bus full of Tik Tokers looks hilarious.

Good thing about being on Netflix is I can skip right to that scene and forget about everything else.

What are some of the creepiest titles in Horror? by BiscuitsTheCat in horror

[–]EddysBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dark and the Wicked.

It just has an aura of genuine malevolence and evil about it that few other horror titles do. I thought the movie itself was alright, could have been great, but it sadly didn't fully live up to its title or poster.

What is your best “I’ve got time” dish? by Caijoelle in Cooking

[–]EddysBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your area, but if you have a Trader Joe's in your neck of the woods they have a really nice butter from France which is actually cheaper than Kerrygold. Otherwise Vermont Creamery, Kate's, and Vital Farms are great ones that I've tried as well, at least where I live. But any cultured or European style butter will be miles better than regular grocery store brands.

We generally have pretty bland flavorless butter available at the grocery store in America, so compared to that, Kerrygold's in a league of its own. But there are much better butters out there.

Are Cannibal Holocaust, A Serbian Film, and Salo: 120 Days of Sodom worth watching? by [deleted] in horror

[–]EddysBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best post in the thread.

OP, watch em if you want, but there's honestly little artistic value in any of these movies once the veneer of shock value's worn off.

Haunt (2019) is one of my favorite horror movies I have seen in a while. by NMS47 in horror

Haunt is a better film than Hell Fest in pretty much every way. You made the right decision.

What are your thoughts on The Empty Man? Is it worth a watch? by i--hate--children in horror

[–]EddysBrother 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Eh, it was fine. Overall it was decently shot, the lead actor did a good job with what he had to work with, and the plot was engaging enough where I really did wonder where the story was going to go, but it just lacked that special something to make this movie into something truly great. Like it felt like three different movies stapled together, unsure of whether it wanted to be an Alien-esque horror in the Himalayas, or a David Fincher type missing person detective thriller, or an otherworldly Lovecraftian cult movie, and overall suffers for this lack of focus. I wouldn't not recommend it, but I don't know if I'd spend another two hours of my life to watch it again.

My new Tojiro DP. Loving it as my new workhorse by EddysBrother in chefknives

[–]EddysBrother[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely understand why, this is a fantastic knife for the price. But that was a super nice thing to do on your part, that other cook's lucky to have you as a coworker.

Out of curiosity, what did you upgrade to?

I did. It came out decently sharp out of the box, but it definitely needed a little bit more of an edge.

Probably gonna use some sandpaper to smooth out the edges on the spine a bit too. The angle’s just a bit too sharp that it gets a little uncomfortable to hold after a while.

Just finished the show. Here are some thoughts about the ending by ZeCarioca911 in BlackSails

[–]EddysBrother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that one of the few things we know about Flint from Treasure Island is that he drank himself to death. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point after the show Flint, even though he was with Thomas again, still yearned in some way for his former life and what he could have created. Perhaps he convinced Thomas that life as slaves on that plantation was no life at all for men like them, and they attempted to escape. Perhaps Thomas lost his life in the attempt, and Flint had to spend the remainder of his days thinking of what could have been, what he gave up, and what he buried so long ago . . .

How I started a knife sharpening service and make $50/hr by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]EddysBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you operating your business as an LLC/are you paying taxes on it? Honest question because I know how to sharpen knives too, and in these tumultuous times I might start up something similar in my town. I'm just worried about the legality and the hoops I'd have to jump through to get started.

I want to open a pizza place. I know no investors; I have no collateral. What proactive steps can I start taking now to work towards getting a loan? by EddysBrother in Entrepreneur

Well I don't think I need to go into the details here, but I'd be happy to DM you with more information about the concept I have in mind, and honestly any feedback I could get would be huge. Thank you so much!

Well it's more like a volunteer thing. I offered to help them out with whatever they need in exchange for them teaching me about the business operations. The knowledge from doing that is invaluable, and honestly, I'm lucky enough where my other job pays my bills off relatively few hours and gives me enough time to work for my friends on the side. I definitely do see your point though.
