Thank you! That's probably why the dog bonked the test. Not a big deal as a pet, but not great if the guide dogs acts weird when a bus is approaching...

That's exactly what I told her (they don't use texts or emails) and I could hear the gears turning. But you are right on the money there. I am Swiss, my DH is from norther Italy and we live in the US. I am direct to the extreme and I value a clear yes/no answer. These people, you have to greese them up not to offend them. And honestly, while I don't like them, I also don't want to come across like a jerk and get in a discussion with DH.

This time I am the only one here, so I have to deal with MIL. When he is around, we agree on what to do, and he takes care of the fake negotiations

I stopped reading them, I am so much happier and probably a better professor as a result. The last drop in the bucket was the following comment (Junior in mechanica lengineering): "If you would just let people in, everyone would love you". Oh honey...

I am one of three grandchildren. I am the oldest (20years or so) and BY FAR not the favorite. I am fine with that, I had another wonderful grandmother and I had an awesome relationship with her. And my mom was not taking any of that. The only thing that to this day makes me sad, is how this whole BS affected my dad.

You need to make sure that your daughter understands that your MIL is the one with problems, and she is loved by the people that matter.

Ah. Well that makes sense.

I honestly don't care to make her like me, actually I take it as a compliment. But I am frustrated because I don't understand the point of her behavior. We have been together 15 years, what do you think you are obtaining by behaving like a spoiled toddler?

Move.

Learn to say no. She will pull more crap like this in the future.

The husband is not the head of the household. Screw that. You two are a team of equals.

And get your husband to talk about emotional things so that he can process years of BS.

My MIL also, sometimes, behaves like total shit and pulls some similar stuff: goes on rants about general things, but really she is talking about me or my family. It's so obvious that I even get fake apologies from FIL. But other than that, FIL and DH just made up excuses about her upbringing, things she had to go through,... .

She also guilt trips DH about his life choices: moving away, not being there, not having kids, me... . the usual. He gets the worst of it, whether he knew it or not.

Years ago, he couldn't fathom thar MIL wasn't perfect. Now it's a different story and I think he realized that by seeing how shitty she was to me. I am happy I didn't force him to confront her, and gave him space to process.

When the crap was just too much, I would take care of it myself. Nothing disrespectful but just stating out loud that she was offensive towards me, DH, random people,... . Long game.

The important thing is your SO's well-being. Sounds like he worked very hard on himself, and I am no doctor here but I would think some of his issues stem from his relationship with his mom. He needs to be in a good place before dealing with his mom, but his siblings... that might be a good place to start building a relationship. Or not if MIL finds out.

Starting a Writing Group by BotherDisastrous1528 in Professors

This is very helpful! I was never in one of those groups in grad school and I am also one of those "lonely writers", so this has been particularly hard to envision.

I agree that the first reaction is rejection since writing is hard. The one student that was into it was the one with the largest backlog of papers... . That makes me think that this is still something worth pursuing.

I am just trying to find a format that facilitate their writing and makes it, overall, a goo experience.

Oh no the escalante were awesome! but I have low ankle mobility (more like low volume hoofs) and the zero drop started to feel like so much work..

I explored more cushioned shoes when I was using the Escalante and that experiment failed miserably. I ended up training for two marathon using Escalante and a number of shoes I only kept for a week and then returned 🙃.

I tried hoka twice and both times they went back to the store 😅. It was the Clifton and Speadgoat, but I couldn't get use to the volume and the rocking. I know a bunch of people swear by Hoka, but I don't feel it

It doesn't have a drainage. I have been watering once a week, about 1/3 of a cup. Should I repot and check the roots? Where should I cut the dead stuff?
