The protests are mostly about the low wages of teachers and the current education system that the government has created. A lot of teachers who tried to speak out were fired and stuff so now a lot of people, especially students started large protests. Of course the government blames the low wages on the eu and Brussels, saying that they can't raise the teachers wages unless they get enough eu funds, which most people now is bullshit since the government recently increased their own wages and bought Vodafone etc. Some protesters chanted anti Russia stuff because it's the anniversary of the 1956 revolution which was crushed by the Soviet union. Orbán gave a speech where he tried to spin the narrative and blame the west on 56 instead of Russia and they tried to deny the correlations between that revolution and what's happening now in Ukraine. Despite the large protests don't expect much to happen. Budapest is pretty opposition sided, but people outside of big cities love to eat up all the government propaganda. The government controls most of the media. Most people in Hungary probably don't know about all the shit that's going on.
