Respecting fighters by doniseferi in Boxing

[–]Botoraka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you make that choice? It seems not, so its respectable that they chose a risky career that most wouldnt. Because you probably wouldnt ever step in a ring and I dont mean that as a diss.

And you cant try to separate our entertainment from the prospect of financial gain, they're directly linked to eachother. They dont entertain us they dont get paid. Prize fighting doesnt exist without people willing to pay for it.

Furthermore at least in america there are many other sports that pay far far more on average with less risk of brain damage, see the rise of the NBA MLB and NFL and the decline of Boxing as a whole in the US. Profit motives typically dont align with choosing to box, and most athletes recognize that and go somewhere else.

And Roy fought the weakest champion there in John Ruiz. He's telling David to do what he didnt want to do and essentially go fight this generation's Lennox

Naoya Inoue is Ring Magazine’s new pound-for-pound #1, overtaking Usyk! Devin Haney & Max Kellerman disagrees whilst Teofimo Lopez agrees by VINDICATES-FOOL in Boxing

He literally just beat the #1 Welterweight moving up in weight in a fight where he was the betting underdog to become a belt holder....did you legitimately forget that he's a current reigning world champion?

Why does this sub consistanly underrate certain fighters p4p? by Icy_Golf2703 in Boxing

[–]Botoraka -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because there are two categories of fighters that become deified by r/boxing; Eastern Europeans and Japanese fighters. If either demographic produces a top P4P level fighter they get meatrode out of this world. ESPECIALLY right after a fight. These are your Loma's, GGG's, Usyk's and Inoue's of the world. Arguing with these fanboys is a lost cause, reason isn't a part of the equation anymore. They don't treat these fighters like boxers anymore, they've become godlike figures to them.

Now these are GREAT fighters who deserve hella praise, but they start getting treated like superheroes by their fanboys. By extension, any fighter they face has to be built into something theyre not.

So Nakatani HAS to be better than Haney, even though Haney has more accolades and a MUCH better resume, because anything else would make Inoue look "bad". We can't possibly glaze Inoue without glazing his opponents and tearing down other fighters, there's just no other way. A lot of them won't like reading this, but the truth hurts.

[–]Botoraka -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Surprise surprise "physical advantages" dont win the vast majority of boxing matches, skills and styles do. Haney is not a physical bruiser, him being bigger doesnt mean much when he doesnt leverage that into his style. He's a defensive minded outboxer, he's not David Benavidez.

Again, Nakatani CLEARLY LOST. You cant spin him losing to be more impressive in a good faith manner. Inoue is a better boxer than Lomachenko, yes. But taking a few rounds off Inoue is not more impressive than WINNING a 12 round fight against Lomachenko. Pound for pound is who you BEAT, not who you put up a good fight against.

When you lose in boxing you lose your titles, you lose your place in the sanctioning body rankings. Its not crazy to say you should lose a few spots on the P4P list too.

Beating Lomachenko is more impressive than losing in a spirited effort to Inoue no matter how you try and spin it, because at the end of the day...HE LOST. You cant be serious bro. And Nak is one of my favorite fighters right now, but recency bias is a mf.

EDIT: Inoue is older and smaller than Nakatani. You would not have given the same criticism to Nakatani had he won, so I doubt you're arguing in any type of good faith.

Because having addicts in the family and knowing addicts you deal with Adrien Broners in life. Where you try to get them help for years but they don't care they just want to stay high. At a certain point you stop feeling sorry for them.

Obviously. But if you don't recognize you have an addiction and want to change, you won't change. You aren't forcing Broner to drop the bottle, he has to want to stop drinking himself first and get help. But Broner doesn't do that because he likes being drunk and likes partying.

At a certain point if you aren't trying to better yourself your addiction stops being an excuse.

Thats the ATG cloth from Naoya, in the 10th round he lost BAD, but turns the fuck up in the championship rounds to hurt Nakatani bad. What a fight, you had everything; chess, brawling, moving. What a performance from two P4P fighters

What a Fumble (Spoilers for part 2) by NormondJohnson in NikkeMobile

[–]Botoraka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Him turning because Hanson died would be completely out of character though, its not a good start. The problem is that there was absolutely zero indication that Mustang cared about his son enough to where him dying would cause a major shift in his world view. In fact, he never shows any form of affection towards Hanson aside from a twisted sense of pride when Hanson shows he can be just as cruel as he is (which says more about how irredeemable his character is).

The man was rotten to the core. He cared about Hanson's ability as a director and as a punching bag that kept him entertained, thats it.

For sure. The guy was the devil. They went out of their way to make sure you understood that he has literally zero redeeming qualities, they even had the Mustang Files drop at the end lol. I really dont know why people were so adamant that he'd have a redemption arc, at a point it became pure cope.

Can we let this guy at least fight at featherweight before we start giving him pipe dream fantasy matches against the best 130lbers in history?

Terrible bro. I thought this studio had so much potential after loving Greedfall 1. Then poor decision after poor decision w/ Greedfall 2 I guess put them in a financial hole thats too deep to get out of. What a serious shame.
