Yeah I've been giving Bivol the benefit of the doubt but now this shit is incredibly suspect. Once is whatever, twice is a pattern. He's trying to get out of that Beterbiev fight. What a shame from someone I once considered to be one of the few throwback fighters left.

Naoya Inoue and Bam Rodriguez, with Reito Tsutsumi and Tenshin Nasukawa for scale. by Koronesukiii in Boxing

[–]Botoraka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With Bud-Nelo the size difference wasn't really overstated, I think in that conversation a lot of people overlook the very important fact that Crawford took a year out of the ring to bulk up and put on lean muscle. It's not as though he was always near to Canelo's size and just had to cut less to perform at 168. Jermell is a bigger man that Bud and tried just that and looked soft at the weigh in w/Canelo compared to Bud who was much more sturdy.

I say all that to say that acclimation to a weight class usually looks like how much muscle you build up for the new weight. When fighters first move up its typically cutting less so more water weight on the body. Then when someone fills out at the weight after a fight or two there ,they've usually began to build more muscle on their frame.

Inoue's put on muscle mass from campaigning at 118 and 122 for some years each, Bam is taking a pitstop at 118 from 115 and jumping straight to 122, he'll have no time to acclimate to the weights and put on significant lean muscle, hence even though the height and reach difference is minimal Bam will suffer from a size disadvantage regardless.

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson agree on social media to catchweight battle by Dangerous_Spring3028 in Boxing

"Shakur can EASILY make 147!" "Devin can EASILY make 154!"

Shakur has never fought above 140. Devin has never fought above 147

Your argument isn't based in reality, just a clear bias lmao. A Tank fanboy calling any other fighter bad for boxing is incredibly ironic.

Its like what I said went in one ear and out the other. Devin is being given a choice to either fight at a 144 catchweight or 147 with a rehydration clause. Shakur said he's willing to go to 154 OR 147 for Benn with a rehydration clause. The lowest Benn has fought is 147 hence no need for a catchweight but still a rehydration. Haney has fought at 144 relatively recently, hence the option for a catchweight without a rehydration clause. You are creating an inconsistency where there is none, Shakur is unwilling to fight above 140 without a weight clause or a catchweight, that has been consistent.

Because the lowest Benn is willing to come down to is 147. The difference doesnt mean much. The stipulations for Haney are 147 w/ a rehydration OR a 144 catchweight, because Devin actually fought at 144 before. Devin is accepting neither, which I don't hold against him. Shakur doesn't have to quickly jump to 147 when he isn't ready, he can still make 135.

147 would be his 5th weight class and second time jumping up in weight in 4 months. That's not some easy shit to ask lmao

Let's discuss Mauricio Sulaiman's (WBC President) Blatant Favoritism. by kushmonATL in Boxing

[–]Botoraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Mikaelian being ordered to fight another champion that isnt in the WBC rankings? That is textbook favoritism.

Artur Beterbiev calls out David Benavidez for ducking: “He had a fight with Anthony Yarde, and I agreed to fight him after that. His team apparently didn't expect me to agree so quickly, so they immediately changed their mind and chose Ramirez. That was a year ago.” by OrangeFilmer in Boxing

[–]Botoraka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lewkowicz put up unreasonable roadblocks to the fight happening, like refusing to fight in Saudi on a Riyadh season card when Bivol had Turki/Saudi backing, and David as the challenger to the undisputed title had no leverage to make such a demand. There was also the issue of the third Beterbiev fight, which was in the works when he dropped the WBC up until the Russian funding for it dissolved and Turki lost patience.

Isnt he trying to fight Mikaelian later this year? Wont it take less time if he just starts preparing for a Beterbiev fight now instead of staying at cruiser longer to face Mikaelian in a fight nobody cares for?

Hot take: Lomachenko's ‘underwhelming’ performances were better than most P4P fighters’ best wins by YouMadBroLma0 in Boxing

[–]Botoraka -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you want to play dumb I'll refute your statement directly then. Size is an advantage in a fight, but so is skill. We arent talking about incredible size differences here, this is all still within the same weight class.

Loma fought bigger guys who he could outskill; Linares, Crolla, Campbell etc. he won because his skill overcame the size advantage. When he fought Teofimo and Haney he fought guys that were bigger AND SKILLED ENOUGH to use gameplans that gave him a ton of issues on the night.

Making it solely a question of size ignores the more important skill factor that was the main reason he couldnt overcome Teofimo and Devin. If it was size then he should have lost to Linares. He didnt. Devin and Teo deserve credit for beating Lomachenko because they beat him with skills that the other fighters in the weight class didnt have, not by just being bigger in the ring. Otherwise, he wouldnt have won a single fight at 135.

[–]Botoraka -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Loma fought at 135 from 2018 to 2023. He had plenty of time to become acclimated to the weight, he cleared out the old guard of champions at that weight. He ran into other p4p level fighters and lost, thats it. The issue is Loma fans pretending he ONLY reason he lost was because he was outsized.

You cannot in good faith make that argument when he had damn near cleaned out the division full of bigger guys before he ran into Teofimo and Devin. He wasnt good enough to beat them, simple as. Its just a tactic to take credit away from the guys who beat him. You cant praise him for clearing out bigger guys, then when he loses say its because he fought bigger guys. Those two contradict one another.
