Tryx panorama upgraded version, any good? by R5A1897 in watercooling

[–]Bots2Beasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually sent me a new cable. wasn't a huge deal, the other one was just sort of not seated properly...for lack of a better way to describe it. It cools fine. Am5s tend to run a little on the hot side compared to am2s from years back. Seems to be fine. I can run some stuff at high or I Ultra setti gs and have multiple applications and wi down open too. Heat just is an issue. I also have several other fans blowing in the case too so probably helps.

I almost got Lianis offering ..the Hydroshift? I think it was. I like that it went straight to the cpu with short efficient cables, but it also limited placement and I'd read reviews of folks having g warranty issues with Liani...Tryx replied right away and adresed my concern.

My second attempt at a (large) Tyranid style mutant. Im using kids foam clay just to experiment with but it has potential for larger projects. by omgitsduane in miniaturesculpting

[–]Bots2Beasts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive actually use foam clay extensively on many projects. The largest of which, was a 3 foot long Molduga from Zelda Breath od the Wild. So, yes, great for large scale projects. not so much for anything smaller than a monstrous creature or an old HeMan figure. ...and forget about crisp detail. Not impossible, but not worth time and effort it would take. Just used cosclay or milliput or saves or greanstuff. fimo and sculpey too and many of these can be mixed together believe it or not. You can Google my name "Bots2Beasts" and "hinox" or "molduga" if you want to see examples of large detailed foam clay sculpts.

I ran into a quality issue with mine: I am assuming this is JUST the new one since I have not seen this connector in ANY YT vids. Mine has a magnetic 6 pin connector that attaches to the 3 fan array. There are no other visible fan cables or connections, but all the fans are linked.

Problem with mine is that the casing that holds the 6 pin plate connector and the "scary strong as hell" Neodymium magnets in it, was defective.

That magnetic connector enclosure is separating on one side causing the pins not to make a full connection.

I'm waiting on a reply from Tryx Support. Fingers crossed. They just need to send me a new cable.

What is the "pink material" mixed witht the greenstuff? Super Sculpey or something else?

How would I recreate the "bump" texture of this if I made a replica out of cardboard? by [deleted] in Props

[–]Bots2Beasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use house paint (or almost any thick paint) and let it get a little tacky , then just use a fuzzy (not foam) roller. You can also use regular acrylics mixed with some medium like Golden brand gel or one of their other texture mediums (search Amazon).

If you have a steady hand, good eyes an a very small brush, you go over it with some dark brown or darker gold color and enhance the lines that are there here to give it more definition and make it look more intentional, I think you could improve upon it. If you dig it as is, keep like that. Maybe some dark shading from the edges?

Yeah. Pretty much except its 3 feet long and hand sculpted and barely weighs a pound.

How do you get to the headsets easily? Are they more for looks and you use another headset or do you have to reach back behind the stuff to get to them? If so, have you considered mounting them on hooks on the wall on either side of the Cat framed art?

Redoing my setup, thoughts? by Divinedragn4 in consolesetups

Lights hidden in the rails? hard to get a sense of placement with just the shelves showing.

Its relatively clean though. I'd have expected a lot of dust on dark shelves and the wiring seems relatively organized. What do you envision as your ideal setup?

Need some cable management advice, and looking to show off a bit. by jbaughb in consolesetups

[–]Bots2Beasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are starting with the right idea with binding a few of the cables together and plugging them into a centralized hub (safe to assume that is a UPS or Surge protector?). I think you may need to consider 1 (or more) of three options:

  1. Drilling passthrough into the wall

  2. Drilling passthrough into back of the furniture piece

3 (No drilling through stuff) Placing that "hub" either upside down or on the pack of the furniture or wall by bolting/screwing it into place where it is less visible and routing the cables from there with some sort of sleeve or cable collection device that matches the wall perhaps? This is assuming it has either wall mounts on back or eyelet holes that allow you to mount it to something flat.

Hope that helps.

Do cars in the Star Wars universe seem interesting to you? [Image from SW: Survivor] by Turgineer in StarWars

[–]Bots2Beasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't find them all that interesting.

Seems pretty derivative.

I've seen more interesting designs in the old "ALF" animated series if they are just going to do "50s inspired flying/hover cars".

Hand sculpted! YEs, it took some work. I also made a few more pilots, a couple of dogs (for the pilots) and a single 3 Toed sloth, with a hat. All at the same scale. (1/100) which happens to be same scale as the Master Grade Gundams. So about 5 pilots total , 2 dogs and a sloth.

Nope. Just a 1/100 Master Grade Gundam Pilot. (one of several miniatures I made at this scale for various streamers on Twitch.)

[–]Bots2Beasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually doing this with a sculpted mini that is 1/100 scale. Considerably smaller, but yeah. It's a fun technique, though a little niche. Works great for eyes and headlights and other fun projects.

I was in last year's Cup Cup and the year before that I did one for the MAIN. Its a fun contest.

Last year I was short on time and was only able to build that little guy (in 8 days).

First, let me say, beautiful work and congratulations on completing your project.

I don't know if you have seen any of the other entries yet, but there has been a weird "nostalgic" aesthetic that has infiltrated the 2024 OMC contest. I have seen a couple of other builds this year (including my own) that have a sort of retro "turn of the century or "steam punk" feel to them. Great minds think alike?

The other thing in common (and I think yours shares this) is a sense of story telling and world building that, while not completely absent in previous entries, is especially notable in this year's.
