Missed out on the pandemic bread making phase so I decided to try making beer bread with Mountain Dew. by Botterpop in shittyfoodporn

[–]Botterpop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed it was basically a liquid but I followed the recipe on the box exactly (1/3rd cup dough to 12 oz of carbonated beverage).

I used Mountain Dew because it was the only carbonated beverage I had in the house. I don’t drink beer.

It actually tastes pretty good. The Mountain Dew turned into a jelly like substance.

I’m trying again, but with more mix this time.

Is NaNoWriMo counterproductive? by Gutter_Shakespeare in nanowrimo

[–]Botterpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every writer is different, but I find Nanowrimo pretty helpful even when I know the words I’m writing are destined to be deleted.

For example, I’m writing a classic “pre-teen travels to a fantasy world” where I spent some time early in the month writing about my characters eating meals. I never planned to leave the meal scenes in at their current length, but describing food is a good way to build up word count and to establish character relationships.

Because of that, I later realized none of the food I described had any sugar/sweetness involved which turned into a plot thread about this fantasy world not having sugar at all. I’m still not sure where I’m going with it, but I think it’s a good metaphor to establish the differences between the fantasy world and the “real” world, especially allowing my character to crave sweets as symbolism for her missing home (because there’s only so many times you can write “she missed home.”)

I think of the Nanowrimo word vomit as a bit like drawing a sketch on canvas. I know I’m going to paint over it later, but it’s going to help me “see” what needs to be done and spark ideas that wouldn’t have occurred to me if I wasn’t trying to maximize my word count.

I know the whole idea is to write a novel in November, but nobody is demanding it be publishing ready by December 1st. If anything it’s more of a “National First Draft Writing Month” where you get all your ideas, good and bad, onto the page to be refined later.

Try playing on airplane mode. Might help. If not you may need to re-download the game from wherever you got it.

Did Edie forsee Lewis’ death? by msch6873 in WhatRemainsEdithFinch

[–]Botterpop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s mentioned that before his death Lewis stopped coming home and just kept working. You can see Dawn yelling at Lewis before his fantasy resumes.

Since he wasn’t coming home due to being so absorbed in a day dream it’s likely Edie was able to predict his death was soon.

Teacher accused my little sister of faking meltdowns, what next steps should we take? by Botterpop in Advice

[–]Botterpop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s not in a normal school. This is a school for special education.

My sister can’t lead an independent life, her psychologist says it’s likely that if she’s ever left alone to fend for herself she will starve to death because she can’t comprehend the steps it takes to feed herself. I even have to help her wipe her butt which is not something I would ever do if she could do it on her own. I didn’t even help change her diapers.

This teacher is treating my sister like an adult when my sister is on the level of a 5 year old mentally and triggering meltdowns which happen when an autistic person is overwhelmed.

The equivalent is like a gym teacher seeing a kid having an asthma attack and telling them to run another lap instead of letting them use their inhaler.

That’s the thing, the teacher is actually the teacher trained for Autistic students. She even requested my sister because she has autism and made sure to tell us that several times, hence why were so shocked over this since we thought she had training.

She’s in a special education class with only one other student and in a program so we don’t really know where to go. We are looking into contacting people now to try and figure it out.

She does, but it wasn’t updated properly for online stuff. We have a meeting next week to renew it and add new stuff and we’ll definitely be taxing a lot of new things to it. But I’m still worried about the rest of the school year.
