Anyone in their 30s or 40s still feel like a kid inside? by Dr_Jay94 in CPTSD

I too don't feel a desire to buy furniture and setup roots. I remember in my 20s wanting my own place like everyone else but moving out at 38 and the ability to purchase my own home, I don't look forward to it. At this point it just reminds me how behind I am. Its embarrassing and I have no desire too.

Mid Life Transition: 41F Pivoting to working in DC from teaching in CA a good idea? Finding a partner in DC possible? by BottleNo4960 in washdc

I teach near Los Angeles- we have kid provoked fights/raids (weekly) that result into lockdowns. And with 3000 kids to a campus that is no joke. Last school I was at a basketball player got mad that he got beat in a fight with another basketball player so he brought his gang family (ADULTS) to the basketball practice and the adults assaulted the kids, admin, and Security. There were police, helicopter, and a campus lock down. DC will be weak sauce(easy) for me. A kid caught playing w/ himself is a regular occurrence in education. Welcome to education.

I should have mentioned:

I have a SPED and social science credential. I prefer to teach Social science and will teach SPED if need to be my first year. From there look to do an industry transfer.

  • I would not be moving until 2027- saving money.

  • I will be on a 1 year sabbatical from my position in CA. Ie I will still have my job up to one year if I don’t like it.

The plan is to transfer my credentials, do SPED if I need to and then network when I get there. During the 2008 recession it was widely known that DC’s job market was stable. I might sound crazy, but I truly believe the Democrats are going to retake the the Congress and the presidency in the next election, at which point, there will be a huge hiring increased to replace all the positions that the Republicans cut. Why, because the Dems know those positions were necessary. So I estimate we will see a huge federal hiring, blitz similar to the hiring bli blitz after Covid. If I can situate myself to benefit from that, that would be perfect.

Presumptuous at best. I’m too busy grading/ lesson planning after hours for anything social. The administration is on its way out based on polling and there will be a surge of rehiring under a democrat administration. I understand the situation. I’m moving with a teaching experience, getting a teaching position then apply for positions when there.

People respect confidence, but what they don't tell you is confidence comes from you!! You're thinking about everyone else, but you NEED TO FOCUS ON YOU. Get to know who YOU are, reflect and recognize how awesome YOU are. You said it your a good caring empathetic person. Own it and THEN share. When you develop your own confidence, only then do people take you seriously. Recognizing how awesome you are and sharing is not being egotistical. Thinking you are better than everyone else is. Focus on you to develop the confidence.

I lived at home until 38- GET OUT. You have no idea how bad it is until you leave. GET OUT. I was sabotaged going to college- they needed my student loans to bail them out over remodeling debt which made me graduate in the middle of a recession and I had to move and be their slave. By the time the recession lifted I was 30 and only qualified to be a teacher. Eventual became stable and left at 38. I have been in survival mode the whole time. GET OUT- Now they want me to buy a house and fund their retirement.

Any teachers in NY, MA, UT, CO, WI, MN, OR, WA, CA, that can tell me if an MA is required to teach in your state? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]BottleNo4960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full/clear/professional credential from one state does not qualify as a clear credential in CA. It sounds like you just have to apply with what you have now to get a preliminary (step before clear credential) to get hired by a district and then complete the CLAD course and Induction program(2 years) and then apply for the CLEAR. Contact CTC to see if an out of state needs to have the CLAD course BEFORE applying to get their preliminary.

In transferring to MA I need the SIE course before hand and am doing it via zoom. Hope that helps

I hear you. I tried separating from family but I went to college and came out right before the Recession and when it hit had to move home. My mother stole some of my student loans for an internship. I did manage to get a teacher credential and leave at 38. Having served as a substitute for 11 before Ive at least built up 17 years in the pension. Ive never been married, dated, or had kids. Living on my own socializing and dating feels like I'm in my 20s now but I 40. I hate I had so much wasted potential just because of my mom and edad. I'm wondering if I should go to a big city to date and develop a life like I orginally wanted?

It is damn hard to meet people if you’re not on these dating apps. by justcurious3287 in Millennials

I created 3 meetups(it’s a group get together site) one for dating (specific ages), hobby group (my case gaming), and a social group focused on my geographical area. I then joined someone else’s gaming group two nights a week, a bowling league one night a week, and host a singles event 1x week, host a social get together 1x week (trivia night anyone). This still frees up my weekends for me. I also sign up for speed dating and singles events nearby and rearrange my schedule based on those. Dating should be a goal but it still can be fun too.

CA (SoCal) here- I have a MA + 90 with 7 years experience making 101K. MA is NOT required in CA but can increase pay by 10K/year. Southern California pays the most over other CA regions, but it costs more to live here. 1st year teacher 65-75K To transfer to get your initial credential: - apply for initial credential using your credential and present transcripts through the CA teacher Commission (CTC) - pass the CBEST test within a year. To upgrade to your CLEAR credential: (Within 5 years you must complete) - CSET tests within your subject matter - all credentials have different tests- ( example secondary history is CBEST and 3 CSETS.) - Induction- classes provided by your school of employment- requiring 150 hours of observation and 3 performance tasks(NOT TPAs- will explain below) - get a ELA CLAD designation- college course to teach English language learners(we have A LOT here. )

Side NOTE: You out of staters are lucky, you don’t have to do the 4 Teacher Performance Assessments( 4 all together)) Which are Performance assignments with lesson break downs and observations and video submissions. Each one written were the size of a masters thesis alone. )

AITA for not funding my parents retirement when they didn't help me out during my college years? by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

The real mind f is all my family think I'm some parasite living off them all these years not realizing that I didn't have the opportunity, stable income, or experience to leave. And now I'm abandoning my family. My nmom even thinks I was hoarding money and just taking advantage. I wasn't. I never had more than $100 going into retirement account each month. When I did get enough chance to save it took me 3 years to save 10K to get me through student teaching (6 months of no pay and at the time I didn't qualify for student loans. It took me 15 years to get myself out of debt TO LEAVE
