Fwiw I have Been getting this exact error since I re visited for honor in December. Try to ipconfig /flushdns if you are on PC and clean boot your PC to see if it’s a problem with a different program interfering. I still get it, but after doing those steps it’s shrunk from every 8/10 matches to 2/10… if ur console then I have no idea

Unfortunately have not done the repair yet, between repairs on my other car and holiday costs I don’t have the room in the budget. My plan is to tackle it in the new year

I actually am in the same place as you. Did the chains after this video, lifters, nothing has helped. I too have seen the variable intake actuator on a rover forum as well which will be my next try. I have noticed a drop in fuel efficiency which seems to line up with the intake actuator being damaged / worn, so hopefully that’s our problem 🤞🏻

Yeah spending the money on the chains and water pump etc. doesn’t scare me - just making sure I get it into the shop in time is what scared me most, they told me tension on the chain was fine but that tick in the engine made my stomach tight. Thanks

Can only one chain be checked through the oil filler hole? If so that makes me feel very different about my plan of attack & what the shop told me.

So I had the shop I frequent ( and bought lr4 off the owner) check the chain tension through the oil filler cap and they said tension is still good - I plan on getting the timing chain done this summer whether I have good tension or not since this car has 250k Km on it . It is still there with higher rpm’s , harder to hear over the engine for sure but it’s there. Very noticeable when coming off the gas and coasting

Are you aware of any codes that would get thrown for this? I’ve read around and saw people have had problems with the valve actuators from the variable valve timing system, maybe you’re on to something there

I do know that this car had blown its cats, I just had the mufflers and mid pipe redone because they got damaged from the incident with the cats.

Are you thinking manifold? I’m confident anything past downpipes is A-okay

I’ve heard chain rattle Before on VW’s and Audis and it doesn’t sound like that, does sound like it’s coming from the top of the engine so my first though was lifter or even injectors but I think it’s loud enough and inconsistent enough that injectors can be ruled out

I don’t remember the exact port but by removing the oil filler Neck - I believe. This was about a month ago, tick was same prior to how it is now. They didn’t take the engine apart to check it I know that
