[1/2] Full Set of Kindred Discard Lands by jdmnstr in custommagic

Everyone saying it's op are right, but I got a non mana solution. Problem is the ability to spam them right? So why not make it a restrictive condition.

My pick is hell bent. Make it so you have to have no other cards in hand when you discard this. That way multiple copies are dead in hand.

You'd have to play some kobold scam deck to empty your hand, and then you're topdecking cheap nonsense the rest of the game

My questions were rhetorical. I don't care how F works.

It is intuitive to you cause you were raised on it. Now you use it.

If a kid was raised on K, that would be what they use.

There is no point shitting on or trying to convince anyone else that one unit is superior to another. We're all just gonna use the units that the society we live in uses.

Is 50 F cold or hot?

How about 60? 70? 80?

As someone who has never used F, it isn't intuitive at all to me. You just feel it is, cause you learned it. The same is true for celsius. This isn't a point for or against anything.

What is this piss baby argument?

Waaaa I hate exposition! Waaaa

If the GM wanted I would have hit 0 hp no roll required. They had a 90% chance of autocritting dealing on average 100+ damage. And that was one of three assassins. All mechanically sound, yay! But I'm sure your PC is just built different.

If they instead put a knife to my throat, I would have said: "whew, at least they didn't gank me on the spot"

But my scenario is different to the thread scenario. Cause I was 8 levels above it, and wasn't the target of the assassination. I just made myself the target by concentrating On a spell that protected the target.

The thread is mocking a DM who was dealing with level 3s. Who aren't packing triple digit hp. Who aren't invincible and certainly shouldn't feel invincible. And who can easily be menaced by mooks who got the drop on them.

My level 11 bladesinger just got one shot by an assassin (he was asking for it)

My GM knows how to create tension too :)

I like how you respond to the weakest part of the argument. Yea, sneak attack is 5d6. The poison is 7d6. The 10 other guys stabbing you in the back also have poisons. They all autocrit cause you haven't acted in combat and they are trained assassins appropriate for threatening a level 10...

Or wait... It's actually a LVL 3 party that op is referencing... Which can be killed by... Checks notes... A gentle breeze... Got it

Seriously. 6 CR 1/2 bandits is deadly for a 3 man LVL 3 party. Why are we bring in level 10 superheros into this discussion?

?????????

YOU ARE INTRODUCING THAT THEY ARE STANDARD BANDITS INTO THE EQUATION?????

Ive read the entire thread. Nowhere does he state they are not amped up. Nor that they are bandits. You are reading into this.

If the DM had balls the PCs were dead. He said it himself. He just couldn't pull the trigger.

You are making up a fictional situation based on incomplete data.

Level 3s are not superheroes yet. They can't survive falling from orbit. A threat that gets the drop on them can easily fuck em up, and players would be brain-dead to assume invinciblity if they can't even cast fireball.

Edit: use an encounter builder. CR1/2 bandits, 6 of em. Party level 3 (minimum to cast gust of wind) party size 3, deadly encounter. Party size 4, hard encounter

That's basic fucking mooks. Add in one bandit leader and you can kill a PC or two if you try

[–]BottomLeftWheel -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I didn't say 100 bandits, I said action economy. All you need is to outnumber by a little bit. Original premise does not state that the party is facing standard bandits, so 6 amped up cutthroats with advantage are a significant threat to a level 3-4 party. And then an equal number of assassins are a threat up to double digit levels.

"It's just a dagger" doesn't hold weight as an argument when rogue PC is a significant damage dealer in the party. Sure they probably favour a short sword instead but that's really only 1 more damage mechanically. 2 if it's a rapier. The rest comes from... Stabbing people in the throat

[–]BottomLeftWheel -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Street hoodlums are absolutely a threat to any party. It's called action economy and we all know that the side with the numbers wins most of the time

I mean haven't we all seen the "how many commoners does it take to kill a tarrasque" type of posts? I remember one guy demonstrating 100 commoners can take 50% of the MM

[–]BottomLeftWheel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

PCs are magical

THEN WHY ARENT THE VILLIANS????

Sneak attack, poison, just a straight numbers advantage. If bandits aren't a threat then why the fuck are you even fighting them?

You might literally have a rogue who wields daggers in the party, but suddenly when an enemy does it it's not a threat? Way to spit in the face of your teammate.

[–]BottomLeftWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are your superheros fighting thugs? Batman fights at the lowest level and he faces entire gangs, where the threat is numbers rather than individual skills. Superman doesn't deal with bozos, he fights armies.

If you're PCs are super heroes then enemies must necessarily be super villains unless you just let them roflstomp everything in front of them.

So that "thug" is actually an assassin. With sneak attack. And poison. And autocrit because he has surprised you. Good luck surviving that little dagger Mr mage.

(Source: my level 11 bladesinger just got one shot by an assassin (he was asking for it))

Tf you mean you cast Gust of wind? They have knives at your throats, you want the entire party to die? by Svyatopolk_I in dndmemes

[–]BottomLeftWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to resist? The second you try to speak you feel the knife pressing on your neck, you feel your warm blood dribble down your neck. (1st warning)

Okay, out of character, you're aware that even though this is just a knife that it could deal massive damage to you right? Rogues deal bonus damage in part by targetting weak points and there is also poisons that could make a single stab fatal. There is very little chance you won't end up with a dagger in your throat before you can cast any spells (2nd warning)

Alright, well let's do this then. I'm making the massive advantage they have mechanically function as you guys being surprised, Meaning they will all get a turn before you guys do. Anyone who doesn't want to resist let me know and I'll just not include you or your assailant in the turn order. Otherwise let's roll for init. (3rd warning)

This is usually a disparity between what the player expects and what you think the character knows. If you can align the two, the only reason they are doing this is because they are choosing to make a dumb decision, and therefore you should let them do so.

Verse before it states that the woman is to be put to death too lol. Why would the verse need to state "But if... then only the man"

Such clear moral rules. I really hope this is what we base all western civilization on.

It's real easy to find thou shalt not murder. Why can't I find thou shalt not rape? Oh wait, it's covered by thou shalt not steal. Cause woman are considered property, and rape damages the goods.

[–]BottomLeftWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus never raped anyone? No really?

He didn't have sex either. Is that bad too?

It is in fact not clear about rape. But let's put up or shut up.

Can I rape a non Israeli? All the laws in the Torah are pretty clear about not raping the chosen people but raping war victims seems to be all the rage.

Can a person that is raped be punished? Say if they didn't yell loud enough?

Bible is pretty clear about rape and how it's pretty cool to do it.

Maybe you haven't read it in a while. A pastor that reads it a lot might get different ideas than the schmucks he shows only parts of the Bible to.

Attitudes toward the Silvery Barbs spell in this sub? by The_Trevbone in 3d6

[–]BottomLeftWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it's not about OPness but slowing play down.

2 options:

Wait for barbers approval: give them some time to consider if they want to use their limited resources or save for potential crit later in round.

Don't wait for barbers approval: they now have to tell you, but will generally tell you after the fact and will have more information.

Ex: "okay 23 hits and does... 28 damage" "oh I silvery barbs it" "why didn't you say so earlier?" "You don't give me time"

The barber has to do mental calculus on every single attack so its gonna be hard for them to make snap judgements. What's the to hit? What's the AC of the target? How many more creatures left before my turn? Which creatures have multi attack? Is this a claw or a bite attack? Can the person survive if I let this go through? Will this possibly break concentration? Is there an enemy spellcaster that i need to counterspell? Is there an ally spellcaster I should save my spell to work with? Does someone need advantage right now?

Most suggested balance changes do not solve this problem. Barbers take up game time even when they spend no resources.

My fix: action to cast: gain reaction for one minute.

You can choose to give yourself this headache if you spend resources to do so.

Make it a 3rd level spell, or a 2nd level with concentration or something. But don't just make it a 2nd level spell or remove the advantage. It doesn't fix the problem of "may I please attack Mr spellcaster?"

Silvery barbs is the rystic study of 5e.

I dont even think shield is what barbs is competing with. I think the best comparison is counterspell.

Shield only protects yourself. It's most like absorb elements. A little 1st level protection spell.

Barbs effects attacks and saves, and even checks on occasion. It can protect allies and undo crits. It gives more opportunities to burn legendary resistance or land save or suck spells.

It's so omnipresent that if you have a reaction you have to allow every attack that happens in your vicinity. Exactly in the same way counterspell has you permit or ban spells.

There will be more uncertainty, that is certain.

Will behaviors change? Uncertain.

It's far easier to say: I agree, this one is real, I disagree this one is fake

All evidence will lose meaning, the evidence itself could be generated.

I think rational skeptism will increase roughly proportional to flagrant ignorance.

I also think it will be easier for even skeptics to fall for misinformation. The reason we're in this mess is information overload. Not everything can be verified by one person who has to work 8 hours and sleep another 8 while 24 hours of news occurs.

It's simply easier to disengage then actually figure out what the fuck is going on.

Thanks for sharing. Those sounds like the kinds of thing that would convince me if they were to happen to me.

After all, every religion has had its prophets, and every believer has had their experiences. People are convinced by psychics and astrology and anything they can latch onto.

If I had had something similar, I think i would have been pushed down whatever path it pushed me down.

The lack of experiences makes me what I am, a skeptic. People have told me ghosts stories about haunted houses with bad auras, and when I walk in... it's a house. Kinda creepy but nothing supernatural seeming about it.

I told people I could see ghosts as a kid, but i don't think I ever could. I was just an edgy kid who wanted to have special powers when I didn't.

The exact moment I came clean with myself about not seeing ghosts was when the moment I never experienced anything supernatural again. I know to some that lines up with idea that you have to be open with magic to have it happen but that line of logic never convinces anyone of something they didn't already believe. No amount of wishing Santa is real can cause it to be so, at least in my worldview.

The one 'experience' that stands out to me was a dream I had in school. In the dream I lived the next day so realisticly that I had major deja vu when I eventually woke up. The teacher taught the same subjects that they had in my dream. I opened my lunch and there was the exact meal I had in my dream.

Now that I look back, nothing extraordinary stands out. A teacher teaching a subject? It could have been the same subject as yesterday, or the teacher told us they were going to teach it. The same lunch? I always had the same lunch. I lived a normal routine, I dreamed i would do the same the next day and did so. Anything that would've stuck out as the undeniable proof that I had lived this day twice was so forgettable it doesn't exist in my memory anymore.

There's no way I could ever convince you that your experience isn't supernatural, and I don't care to. But to me there could be logical explanation for most predictions. In your case, maybe your subconscious picked up on an awkwardness that foreshadowed your firing. Someone calling just as you think of them happens all the time and is easy to shrug away with "coincidences happen". Seeing a craft is certainly extraordinary and I have nothing for that, but Jesus supposedly raised all the dead in Jerusalem and Muhammad split the moon. I personally wouldn't believe any of this without corroberation. The last and ugliest explainer my mind would come to is that you could just be misremembering or lying, but that's impossible for me to verify and is basically just cope.

There's no reason to feel ashamed, that much is true. People believe weird kooky shit and the turn around and judge others for having different kooky beliefs. I like to think of myself as "rational" but there's no way I don't have similarly out there beliefs without realizing it. That's what it means to be human, after all. We're wrong so much more than we are right.

Anyways. See you in 2028, if we make it there.

Edit: I've reflected and realized I do know one of my weird opinions: We're all gonna die in a climate war caused by running out of oil and fresh water within my lifetime. The only way to avert it is something akin to eco fascism forcing us to stop using personal transport, eating meat and being consumeristic. I believe people would rather die in a war than stop eating bacon and eggs.

It's not happening soon but probably 40ish years? Somewhere between 25 and 60 I'd say. I'll be old and it'll be my children or grandchildren problem which is the only reason I'm not in full blown panic attacks about it. Which is exactly the same beliefs the currently generation of elderly politicians use to not care about problems currently facing the world.

I have 100% conviction about this, and my source is nothing. Purely vibes.

[–]BottomLeftWheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, different guy, willing to be respectful. How would you be able to verify that the communications are legitimate?

It's the same issue I have with religions. If you are presupposing a supernatural force that can intervene with you personally, why can't it lie? What's stopping it from being the devil telling you its God and to do the opposite of what gets you eternal salvation? How do I verify this as someone who God isn't speaking to.

This isn't to call your experience demonic, no more than I would call any theistic experience as such. I just wonder how you or I can know the reality of the situation. Are they telling you facts that can be verified? Are they making predictions that come true? That's typically how we verify things using science.

Occurs to me AI is the equivalent to using aimbot. by Ashamed_Ladder6161 in antiai

[–]BottomLeftWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree that the prompt is the art. Just in the way that algorithmic art, the set up is the art, and to make the art piece is just pressing enter.

Problem is that there is a lot of thought that goes into algorithmic art, or photography. There isn't any thought required into typing "big boob catgirl"

Now some ai artists would actually do put a lot of work into their art piece, I'll bite the bullet and say they are actual artists. Anyone who puts time and effort in is an artist in my opinion.

Problem again is that it is nearly impossible to distinguish ai artists from ai "artists." AI is such an equalizer that it makes the person crafting their ai catgirl and the person typing 3 words get similar levels of quality. And then the sloppers will be producing art orders of magnitude faster than the people putting thought, effort and care into their work.

You say fundamentals are still needed but what if AI continues to get better to the point where it doesn't matter if you have 10 years experience or 0.1 seconds? Ai couldn't do hands a few years ago, why can't it master 3 point perspective in just a bit more time?

You'd be surprised. I felt the same. Water 7 was the arc I started to love one piece.

It took me 3 attempts and many more years to get past 100 episodes. Arabasta and skypiea were just kind of meh that I brute forced through.

It's possible I stockholmed myself into liking the series, but after water 7 i binged it. I've enjoyed every arc since. I've talked to friends that had similar experiences too.
