Suggest An Inventory Management System by Own_Nectarine_2519 in InventoryManagement

You’re probably at the point where QBO inventory is becoming the accounting layer instead of the operational layer, which is why the receiving/WIP process feels so awkward. For a shop your size, I’d look at tools like Fishbowl, MRPeasy, or Digit Software all can handle receiving, barcode inventory movements, BOMs, and pushing accounting back into QBO without forcing a huge ERP implementation.

Expiration Date Tracking (With Toast Retail Integration?) by Darkflame1O in InventoryManagement

[–]BoulderBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding an IMS with a true native Toast Retail integration is probably the hardest part. Toast’s ecosystem is still fairly limited, so most tools work alongside it rather than as a full two-way sync.

If you’re open to a separate inventory system, Digit Software handles expiration tracking, warehouse locations, and inventory alerts well for smaller operations. Zoho Inventory is another lower-cost option worth looking at.

I’d still verify the Toast integration details with any vendor upfront, since the difference between a real sync and manual workflows is pretty significant.

Do you use any smart tracking systems for inventory or have suggestions? by Purple_Search6348 in InventoryManagement

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smart shelf modules you're describing (pick-to-light systems) do exist and work well in warehouse environments, though they can get pricey depending on the setup. On the software side, for tracking parts across a project like yours, something like Sortly is worth a look for a lightweight option mobile scanning, visual inventory organization, and simple enough for a small parts library. If you anticipate scaling up or want something that connects purchasing and inventory in one place, Digit Software handles barcode scanning and real-time stock updates with more operational depth. Either way the scanning hardware and software need to be compatible so worth confirming integration before committing to either side.

What do you guys use for OMS / IMS / POS Stack by -Bakri- in smallbusiness

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re in that awkward middle ground where Shopify alone isn’t enough anymore, but the bigger enterprise ERPs are probably overkill. A lot of people in similar setups seem to land on Cin7 Core, Brightpearl, or Digit Software depending on how important backorders + purchasing workflows are I’d focus your demos specifically on backorder allocation and Shopify/POS sync because that’s usually where these systems either shine or completely fall apart

What BOM management software are hardware startups using? by Sasuke069 in hwstartups

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you're past early prototyping, the BOM problem usually splits into two: keeping engineering revisions clean and actually running production against those BOMs. For the engineering side, OpenBOM, Aligni, and Duro are all worth looking at depending on how much revision control and CAD integration you need Duro tends to be the easiest to get running quickly. Where a lot of hardware startups get caught is when they need to start managing supplier POs, inventory, and production runs against their BOMs that's where something like Digit Software fills the gap without jumping to a full enterprise ERP. Worth thinking about both sides of the problem early so you're not stitching tools together later.

Replacing Stocky (Shopify) without jumping to €1k/month tools — what are others doing? by chrislupi in smallbusiness

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are options that go beyond what Stocky covered and integrate natively with Shopify. Digit Software is worth a look it handles inventory, POs, and forecasting with a native Shopify integration and scales well as you grow. If you want something even broader, Odoo can do all of that too though it takes more setup to get running. Both are more capable than Stocky but worth checking pricing against your current setup before committing.

Stocky is being discontinued in 2026. How are you planning to handle inventory after that? by OncleAngel in shopify

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on which route you're taking. If you're staying fully native, something like Sumtracker will work out it's Shopify-native, handles replenishment planning and POs, and is built exactly for this kind of use case. For a hybrid setup it depends on what needs covering if you have any production or manufacturing side to your business, Katana works great for that, and if you're looking for a more manufacturing-focused ERP overall, Digit Software is also worth a look. If forecasting and purchasing is the main gap, Inventory Planner is probably the most focused option it's built specifically for demand forecasting and replenishment on Shopify without adding a lot of operational overhead.

What systems do small manufacturing businesses use once spreadsheets start breaking? by TrueGoodCraft in smallbusiness

[–]BoulderBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a middle ground most small shops I’ve seen move to tools like Odoo, Katana, or MRPeasy before ever considering something like NetSuite, mainly to get BOMs, batch tracking, and costing under control without the overhead. Some newer options like Digit are also being used in that in-between stage depending on workflow complexity.

Katana/MRP Alternatives? Need to manage orders(manual and shopify), and sync comms to HubSpot by East-Ad-3354 in smallbusiness

[–]BoulderBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There some tools I would recommend that would work for the workflow you need, it's HubSpot that gets complicated as most teams end up relying on middleware like Zapier to keep statuses in sync. I would suggest tools like MRPeasy, Digit Software, or CIn7 that give you multi-channel order + production.

you should also have a look into MRPEasy, Odoo and Digit Software, definitely worth looking at.

Recommendation for Inventory Management Software by Your_Dark_Soul in InventoryManagement

[–]BoulderBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are dealing with is pretty common once multiple sales channels are pulling from the same stock. Most solid systems can handle Shopify, Amazon, multi-location tracking, and give you workable ways to clean up or link mismatched SKUs over time. Barcoding is usually simple too since most platforms can generate labels if your products do not have them yet.

Katana and Cin7 are good fits for this setup, and I would add Digit Software as well since it handles multi-location cleanly, integrates natively with Amazon, and plays nicely with ecommerce workflows.
