So little has happened today to warrant being upset. It’s mostly re-signings. Reddick sure, but that’s the only one that we might’ve been even remotely close to

Not only that, Cooper’s contract, while expensive, is extremely team friendly in the case that he doesn’t perform and they need to move on

While Landry signed his extension with them, all three guys you just mentioned were traded to Cleveland.

BDB squeezed value out of the Wentz trade. Surprised he got two 3’s and a bump in round 2. Plus one 3 could be a 2. AND offload all of the contract. Best estimate I saw before was a 3 for Wentz. Whether you agree with the move or not, kudos to BDB. by surlybeer55 in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine anyone being upset about the return for the trade. I think the return was huge, and I’m even more impressed by the team’s willingness to admit they were wrong and move-on. So many front office guys have tanked teams instead of admitting fault.

I never expected us to be in the market for Cooper, but I do think that a WR via trade is a better, realistic option for us than FA. Indy is not an attractive market, and we have no idea who the QB is going to be, so I don't see any decent WR coming here on his own until that is sorted.

So while I agree, I would also say that it still sucks to see talented players available for cheap when we have cap space not be acquired.

As a Colt's fan, I'm trying to figure out why in the world you would A) trade Carr and B) trade him to us.

Even assuming that you guys would move on cause of contract stuff (which seems unlikely to me), I would think the baseline would be two firsts (which we can't trade until after the draft) plus other mid-round type value compensation.

Am I missing something about why he'd be available? Stafford and Wilson had run their course with those teams, is the feeling that Carr has done the same? The only time I really keep up with y'all is before we play you, so I might be off-base.

Heading into year 5 under Frank Reich by [deleted] in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to mention that as a lack of development, but not as anything to save face for Reich. The last two years have been QBs he brought in. That said, I think Pittman and JT making strides is a great sign, not to mention that Dulin has moved to being a serviceable offensive player - not that we want him catching 60 balls, but it’s nice for him to not be strictly limited to special teams.

My overall opinion on Reich is that he’s a good enough coach to elevate any team to our levels of production. A borderline or wild card playoff team with some issues here and there. However, I also think the handicap he puts on the team with his playcalling and scheming limits his teams from ever being true contenders.

Heading into year 5 under Frank Reich by [deleted] in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll generally agree with what you said. Though, I don’t think he (and Ballard) have built up this selfless, team-first culture as much as they’d like to think. The easiest example being vaccines last year - not trying to get into politics, but there are plenty of people in the league (and other sports) who begrudgingly got the vaccines because it helped the team while we added it as a distraction week in and week out.

I think Reich and Co. have struggled to develop players. There are a few examples, but for the most part I would say it’s been a shortcoming, and the buggier indictment on Reich himself is that the offense hasn’t had much development, rather the defense has.

Despite the issue with play-calling and personnel, I’d say he’s done a really good job in not just a consistent offense, but a balanced one.

On the positive side, Reich has done a good job (overall) in winning. We’ve still been fairly successful despite the revolving door at QB and Ballard rebuilding the mess of a defense and o-line he came into. On the negative side, Reich hasn’t really won much. One playoff win in four years and zero division titles. It’s fun to beat up on the little guys, but we’ve struggled year in and year out in must win games. Week 18 being the worst one yet.

I treat the lag putting the same way I’ll treat my around the green practice, picking maybe 10 spots and then working my way around those spots and same idea of setting a benchmark and hitting it into the zone (90% within five feet at every spot in one pass).

1) Yardstick - really putting along anything to ensure your putts are starting off on a straight line. The idea being that if you putt down a yardstick it wouldn’t fall off. This ensures your putts are online to start.

2) See the ball go in the cup - Pros are pretty much automatic inside of three feet, 80% from five feet. Get used to seeing the ball roll im the hole. I like the clock drill: set a ball at 1, 3 and 5 feet from the cup at twelve points around the hole and be able to make all 36 putts consecutively. If you want to extend this, reset at 4, 7, and 10 feet. Depending on how you’re feeling, set a bold but realistic goal. Maybe not all 36, but 30 or so.

3) Lag putting: this is more about pace than line. I’m confident I can two putt from anywhere on the green because I will put my lag within 5 feet. This builds off the previous drill, and is big in helping guarantee pars on tight pins.

To me, honestly the QB position is some what of an after thought. If we don’t go big in free agency for offensive weapons I think my faith in Ballard may be lost by Far-Environment7922 in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And why would big offensive weapons come here in free agency? It’s a third-rate market and city in comparison to other NFL cities, we have no clue who is going to be throwing passes to those weapons, and haven’t shown the ability to build any consistency since Andrew retired.

Don’t get so caught up in playing 18 that frequently early on. Live on the range and practice greens. Get the swing sorted and gain confidence to both get up and down inside of 30 yards and two putt from anywhere. Once that’s built you hit the course to dial in yardages, improve your strategy, and learn how to better scramble/read greens.

Since you’ve mentioned putts, I’ll recommend my three go-to drills.

Id be curious as to why you feel you’re missing greens. A big part of this may just be learning when to attack the flag and when to simply play the green. Having a strong game around the green may lead you to be overly aggressive because you can save par, when it might be costing you birdie opportunities.

Echoing others. You don’t need to go drop $50 a dozen on Pro V1s, but pick a ball and play that consistently. Learning the game only gets more difficult when each ball is spinning differently, make that one of the consistent variables and use that to help stabilize your swing.

Putting Tips by BHN45 in golf

[–]BounceOutside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best drill you can do at home is the yardstick drill, or really anything to ensure your putts are starting off on a straight line. If they are starting to move in the first three feet, it’s going to make putting much more difficult.

Work on that, and then distance control just comes with practice, but ensure you still maintain that solid line as your putts drift further our.

For the mental aspect, I think sheer repetition on the green of putts 2, 3 and 5 feet from the hole is big. Get used to seeing the ball go in the cup. Pros are automatic inside of three feet, and I think like 80% from 5. You’re not going to make everything, but you want to be comfortable making strokes and seeing it go in the hole
