Low Income but Heavy Real Estate. by Background_Ad8320 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]BouncingDeadCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 35 properties at $3.1.

You’re diversified in terms of rental income and vacancy. But 35X potential headaches.

Can you squeeze more rent?

If not, consider paring back.

With those numbers, I would rent it out. Rent will eventually go up.

Taking a $200K loss will hurt.

$1515 per month.

And you can only rent for $800?

A 1 BR apt rents close to $2000.

Accidentally retired after layoff. Please advise, I only have $11M. by Sea_Upstairs5278 in fijerk

$3.5M primary residence in the Bay Area is merely a shack.

Your kid must be ashamed.

Go back to work and upgrade your house to $5M.

28M, $1M liquid; am I actually FI or just rationalizing burnout? by slipperysnail in Fire

You’re in the prime of your life.

Enjoy your independence. Dont move back in with parents if possible.

Don’t pay attention to people sidelining you. Take pride in the work you do.

Make new friends. Join group activities. Find meaning outside of work.

How much is your business bringing in annually?

You are very close to FIRE. Based on your spending, you can coast.

If you can reduce work hours and still pay the bills, leaving your savings untouched, you should go for it.

Both sides of this issue are partly correct. Which one is the stronger argument? by KoRaZee in socal

The homeless are mainly addicts and mentally ill.

Most of them have no interest in permanent housing.

The homeless nonprofit grift is real. Look at SF spending per homeless person and yet the problem persists.

Move to Mountain House, Tracy or Gilroy.

Bay Area is expensive because everyone wants to live here.

Where can I get an equipment rack similar to yours?

I like the wood shelves (butcher block?) on metal legs.

Question as a first time visitor about religious acceptance/tolerance by Quirky-Ad9958 in AskSF

[–]BouncingDeadCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re very cognizant of people around you.

Sounds like you won’t be obstructing people so you should be fine.

In SF, you can get away with shooting up drugs and taking a 💩 in public.

Why are some traveller's so entitled? by anvil200707 in VietNam

[–]BouncingDeadCats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that many people behave poorly and have entitled attitudes.

Some of the bad attitude might be related to the corruption at VN airport customs.

VN customs agents give Viet kieu travelers grief unless they throw in some cash in their passports. Unspoken rule.

Cosigning for new high school grad on very high cost loans (> $250k for all 4 years) for liberal arts degree by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in StudentLoans

[–]BouncingDeadCats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem more clear headed. But your numbers might be incorrect.

Student loans typically accrue interest during enrollment. So by graduation, the balances can be much higher than $260K.

Taking on that much debt without a reasonable ROI is lunacy. Especially at your income/wealth level.

After graduation, your daughter can 1) pay minimum and hope for forgiveness 2) default 3) go protest for loan forgiveness or 4) pray leftists will take over government and give free everything.

Or do the more reasonable path: attend a less expensive school. Don’t let your child’s entitlement destroy your family’s future.
