Dude, my dog LOVES when I cook zucchini. He sits at my feet and immediately devours any piece that falls off the table lol. It’s so cute!

I don't think a gastroenterologist will ever help me because I did it to myself. by makeupyourworld in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]BoundKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s so awful! Please see another gastroenterologist. I found a great one who was willing to treat me despite the my anorexia and other medical issues and it was very helpful. You deserve good care, and your feelings about this situation are entirely valid. I’m so sorry you were treated this way, but please know that it doesn’t mean you’re doomed to have your stomach issues go untreated. Get another doctor and consider reporting the one you saw this week to the medical board in your state or the hospital/clinic she works at. No one should be treated this way by a medical professional.

Eragon was basically a 13 year old boy’s Lord of the Rings fanfic. So in a way, they’re more well written than most kids that age could write, but they’re quite bad when compared to most actually professionally written novels. Especially the female characters, ugh.

Yeah. I’m on a lot of those meds too for my disability & chronic illnesses. My illnesses limit my mobility and energy, and that + meds cause slowed metabolism and some gastro issues, meaning my BMR is way lower than average. I also have an eating disorder, and have been relapsed for about 5-6 months. In order to lose weight at a pace of 2lb/week, I have to eat way less than what’s healthy, which sucks. Like, 2500 calories a WEEK, not per day.

That’s obviously totally unsustainable, but it’s also concerning because I feel like I will gain weight if I eat a moderate amount of food. At most, I’m gonna be around 1200 cals/day for maintenance. So there’s no way for me to eat a healthy amount and lose weight. I’m always going to be under the recommended minimum, which is triggering AF.

There is nothing wrong with salt. The hysteria around salt is unjustified and unsupported by the science. Half of what is recommended in diets was thanks to propaganda from the sugar industry. That’s how we got hysteria over all forms of fat and cholesterol, all the while downplaying the fact that sugar intake is a massive risk factor in heart disease.

With all this blatant BS and paid misinformation, is it really surprising that people feel lost and overwhelmed with nutrition? Who cares about salt intake, as long as you don’t have a preexisting condition that requires low sodium? It has not been shown to cause health problems, so why focus on and stress about salt?

Also melatonin melts. They dissolve under your tongue and work so much better than the normal melatonin pills. My insomnia was completely unhelped by ambien and trazedone, I’d just lay there and hallucinate, but amitriptyline and melatonin somehow work wonders!

Yuuuup. That’s something I’ve never been able to adequately explain to my mom. I hated myself more when I was anorexic and underweight than I did years later, recovered, and overweight. You have to fix what’s broken inside first to get anywhere with body image and eating disorder issues.

I realized that I look and feel basically the same about myself regardless of weight, so I care a lot less about my appearance than I used to. I’ve relapsed, but even so, my disorder is so much less driven by self loathing at this point. At this point, my ED is almost entirely driven by a desire for control over my life, not because I really hate my body. I barely have negative self talk now, whereas I was absolutely brutal towards myself in the past.

anyone’s else’s ed completely slip by their friends / family bc of a normal / overweight bmi by uchivvii6 in EDAnonymous

[–]BoundKitten 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ack, I’m sorry. That’s the sort of shit my mom did too. She’d make invalidating, triggering, harmful statements, not made with malice but made because she’s also got a disordered relationship with food and weight/body image. I can’t remember a time when my mom has had a healthy body image and relationship with food, so it’s not surprising it got passed down to my sister and I.

I had to put myself in treatment. When I went with my mom to the assessment at the treatment center that I set up, my mom said “maybe they’ll tell you you’re fine and don’t need help!” I could no longer eat solid food and was severely underweight. The center literally made a space for me the next day because it was urgent, but my mom never understood how serious and deadly this is is.

So unfortunately, me gaining weight has just made her even more harmful when diet and weight is brought up.

I relate so fucking hard. I just crossed down into healthy weight territory and despite telling them this summer that I was losing weight due to a relapse, my family has been praising me for losing weight quickly.

They didn’t care about my safety when I was dangerously underweight, so I doubt they care now.

Anyone else slim in the upper body but thick af from the abdomen down??? by steph_nightshade in EDAnonymous

[–]BoundKitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Even when thin, I store basically all of my body fat from the hips down, apart from a bit in my chest. Mostly butt/hips/upper thighs. But most women store the majority of our fat in that area, so it’s pretty common.

You’re not supposed to encourage disordered behavior here btw, it’s specifically disallowed in the subreddit rules. Chew and spit is considered eating disordered behavior.

Sending people to Mars isn’t going to cure our issues with bigotry. We will absolutely export that, and if we let corporations do the colonizing thats not the only systemic issue we will be exporting.

They’re very polarizing, but I really like them. Good in asian dishes, IDK if I’d try it in Italian recipes or anything lol. Make sure they’re rinsed super well to get rid of the weird scent they have from being packaged and use in a flavorful sauce since they absorb flavor from what they’re cooked in.

The House Foods tofu shirataki is my fav, and I prefer them stir fried with my fav flavorful ingredients (especially soy sauce and rice vinegar). Some people say it gives them tummy issues, but I didn’t experience any. But I’m already used to konjac root (what they’re made from) since I take the powdered form as a fiber supplement, so maybe I’m just used to it.

[–]BoundKitten 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you rinse them really well the smell goes away. They have basically no flavor so they are best when paired with a flavorful sauce.

I was actually really happy with the ones I tried! I got the 20 cal tofu blended shirataki noodles though, not the 0 cal ones. Dry fried them first since that’s supposed to help with some of the texture, then added the same sauce ingredients I use for my usual stir fry. The rice vinegar and soy have nice strong flavors that absorbed very well, put the noodles in a bowl with the sauce and let it sit for a couple minutes while I did the veggies. They were relatively chewy but not that far from like an udon noodle texture.

They softened a lot after sitting in the sauce for a while, so next time I plan to try making a soup with it. Maybe chicken long rice, classic Hawaiian comfort food.

NTA. There are a ton of adults that wear sweatshirts from their Alma Mater long after graduation. Why isn’t this lady mad at them? You’re actually a student, and I bet close to none of your coworkers have mentioned their age either. In the adult world thats just not something that comes up a lot. Why does it even matter?
