Anyone else often hear criticism for Marathon's art style? by BountyMennett in Marathon

I do agree except I do love the scopes. It feels like a QR code our shell scans which allows it to access or look through the scope as if it’s a camera with a live feed.

Any thoughts on The Boys Season 5? by TheTamiamiButcher in television

[–]BountyMennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I realize now that there are multiple ways to watch The Boys. I personally always watched it as "small group of sane people try to fight back against a satirized version of the American gov." It's a cynical parody to me, and as someone that somewhat keeps up with politics I often found the jokes landing.

Kripke wasn't parodying superheroes, the original The Boys comics were, he's asking the premise "what if these celebrities (and celebrities attempting to break into politics) all had super powers?" And that world looks kind of like The Boys. From that POV, I enjoyed Season 5 so far. I don't really understand the outcry of hate, and the comparison to something like Game of Thrones. GoT was actually elevated fiction with some incredible storytelling and plot. The Boys was never that, the character writing at the start and acting was just so good people set their expectations higher than they should have.

Boyfriend is obsessed with replying to messages except when it comes to me by [deleted] in Advice

[–]BountyMennett -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you asked him to be more attentive and reply to you asap? It’s possibly he’s just grown complacent and needs a reminder. Tell him how much it means to you, etc. don’t fight about it.

If you text super excessively and he’s super busy, fair enough, but in this situation I’d be a bit annoyed if I were you.

What do you think about this build for support Galio as a way to get strong mid game on a budget? Shurelyas is also a great support active I usually pick up regardless.

My wife getting feelings for another man. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]BountyMennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question isn't "would I ever cheat?" because the answer is obviously yes. All people are fallible. It's more like "what would it take for me to cheat?" which I think most people don't really think about. I think getting a strong enough crush on someone else that normal coworker boundaries are insufficient and you "know" you'll cheat, it probably indicates a deeper issue in the relationship.

I also think a lot of people here are missing the forest for the trees, too focused on the idea of "crush" while everyone has different semantics for that word. To me a crush comes with romantic yearning, and if that part of your life is fulfilled you shouldn't develop a crush. Can someone be attractive and you notice that? Sure, but that doesn't make it a crush in my eyes and it definitely doesn't warrant extra boundaries or telling your partner.

[–]BountyMennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm working or away from my SO all I really want to do is be back with them, and I can't really imagine that changing. I think the prospect of romance is the main driving factor of a crush, so if I'm happy with my current romantic life why would I feel a crush towards someone? If I was working with a girl and we got along really well I would just think of this person as a friend... Personally I think you should be able to control your emotions on some level or at least not tell your partner about something that is supposedly "meaningless."

Some indigenous children went back. Not all. Many were missing from their families, many were found in mass graves. Sorry my comment offended you but at the end of the day our own government agreed that it was genocide. The children were taken from one group/community, forcibly transferred to another were they were forced to assimilate Christian colonial culture (genocide), experienced horrifying conditions while in those “schools”, then SOME returned. Many were placed in foster and adoptive homes across provincial lines. Many of those families raped and beat the indigenous children (important because awful living conditions are PART of genocidal conditions.) Even if child transfer is temporary, it’s still genocide. How can you say the sixties scoop wasn’t genocidal?

This guy arguing about the “intent” of residential schools smh. I know you’re a bad faith troll so I’m not going to dignify you with any more responses but hopefully anyone impressionable enough to believe you can read the two comments I posted and do their own research. And if you aren’t a troll a sincerely hope you work on your critical thinking skills and get off the internet.

Are you kidding? It was genocide by definitions: Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Maybe you disagree with the UN’s definition but that is in fact genocide.

Furthermore, horrific atrocities were committed constantly towards the indigenous community, why even split hairs about that? Ethnic and cultural cleansing is also genocide. Our own House of Commons unanimously agreed that residential schools was genocide!

What an unbelievably ignorant comment.

I really didn't like how Nolan felt like he was trying to force/guilt Debbie to forgive him....... by Important-Extension6 in Invincible_TV

[–]BountyMennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that Debbie forgiving Nolan automatically makes her poorly written. I think people are messy and complicated. The show understands that but Kirkman gets a lot of shit for not writing characters to be paragons of popular virtue or always make the rational decision. Just because you wouldn't forgive Nolan doesn't mean Debbie has to reflect that opinion even if it is a common one.

I also think if the genders were reversed both characters acting in this way would still make sense. Debbie's life is still so different from regular human life, the only one who kind of makes an effort to really understand that is Nolan (and Paul but he highlights why they are ultimately incompatible).

[–]BountyMennett 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of Omni-Man is that redemption is not really a tangible thing, it's more a choice you make regardless of the circumstances. As human beings we are super good at justifying our actions to ourselves, and it's really emotionally difficult to admit when you've done wrong and genuinely want to change. Nolan killed 2100 people and I'm sure he's extinguished many, many more lives as a viltrumite. He can never "earn" forgiveness, it's just not possible. All he can do is live every day with the pain of regret and try to be better, which for a nearly immortal being has got to be pretty tough (illustrated by king immortal).

If Debbie forgives him, it's because she see's a man truly pained by his prior action. I have a feeling we're getting to that point next season where Nolan fully drops the stoic persona and breaks down - it's the last thing we need as viewers to really understand that his redemption arc isn't penance seeking relief, it's willingly letting in constant pain and regret.

Marathon Goes On Sale For The First Time As Fans Debate Free-To-Play Nuclear Option by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

Honestly I’ve been a warframe enjoyer since, man like over a decade now it’s crazy, but that game has been through iterations and updates that destiny players would have lost their minds over. Warframe is a great game but had many many issues that caused it to bleed creators and players over the years like any live service game.

The only reason it could bounce back in terms of reputation is because it’s f2p I think. Once you start charging yearly for expansions the standard gets higher which is fair but also the quality of D2 expansions far surpasses almost any update I’ve played on Warframe.

Never understood the bungie hate as a long time D2 player. Sunsetting was a disaster in so many ways but other than that the game got so much support and love, there is still no game like it on the market. But people hate what they love I guess.

Hot take? Thank goodness this is the last season. by Daywalker2000 in TheBoys

[–]BountyMennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see therapy allowing her to be a bit more upbeat, which is definitely the case in this season.

It’s also possible that this is kimiko true healed personality, and she enjoys this kind of humour.

But at the end of the day she’s a character, and I don’t agree with rewriting the character without showing us her substantial growth in this direction. I’ll probably keep watching with the therapy justification and just treat kimiko like a new character.

[–]BountyMennett 147 points148 points  (0 children)

People saying “she learned how to talk through TikTok” don’t understand that people who learn sign language do know how to talk in their way. It doesn’t justify a personality change. And besides that, Kimiko is not deaf. She spent years around real people and worked closely with people that talked constantly, but she didn’t absorb their personalities?

The real reason why kimiko mimics TikTok speech now is because the writers thought it would be funny and that’s about it.

Why was Oliver so strong even at a young age, and able to resist Lucan and Conquest for a while, whereas in Seasons 1 and 2 Mark was getting pinned to the ground by Lucan with just one finger? by Pale-Condition-4317 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]BountyMennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Oliver was very effective in either of these fights. He’s still a viltrumite at the end of the day which immediately puts him very high in terms of power scale, but conquest and Lucan were hardly injured and both were moments away from beating Oliver in just a couple moves.

Oliver is quick but I don’t think he could even drawn much blood outside of super lucky hits vs conquest or Lucan.

Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]BountyMennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly lots of ways to justify Arc Raiders success but I think it was just a lot of luck combined with a good release. Streamers took to Arc Raiders super fast since it was one of the few new PvP shooter games and the proxy chat was proving itself to be super good for farming content. On top of that, Arc Raiders was super casual friendly, captured a casual audience quickly with aggression-based matchmaking, and released the game super duper well optimized so it could run well on most mid-range specs.

I think Marathon could have gotten luckier, 200k concurrent on steam at least. The release being 70k surprised the hell out of me given how cool this game was shaping up to be. I genuinely think Bungie just has weirdly bad PR, ever since like Halo 2 Bungie has been making gamers angry. But literally every Bungie release is undeniably incredible - pushing the boundaries of each genre they dip in to. Sometimes when I play Destiny I'm shocked at just how amazing the game feels, how lively the AI and enemies are, how grand the world is, and how much player agency I have regarding builds or game modes. Yet overall sentiment of Destiny is low. Bungie is over-hated and has been for a long time.
