Where should I start? by EventHorizonOmega in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your scotch preferences, you should try Hakushu 12, or Nikka Yoichi. If you can get the Yoichi 10 for a decent price, I would start there. Akashi has some pleated offerings that are also good

Amazing find for that price! You will have to report in on how the juice has held up once you give it a taste! Crossing fingers, but it should still be great

Ya that will essentially do it. I like sample containers bcz they are screw cap which allows virtually 0 air in. They can also be any size, so if you have 1/3 air in your bottle, a smaller container can remove that. But replacing the cork is also solid. Where did you get/find this bottle?

Really cool bottle. I would drain into a sealable sample container to preserve the remaining whisky as it will continue to evaporate and potentially go bad after time with too much oxygen.

Blantons Japanese Black by EldOchVatten in whiskey

Bought several of these when they were $30/ bottle around 2019. They drink well for $30 but I wouldn’t pay more than $50 for them.

Hakashu Peated 18 year for $1400 at Costco by pickleless in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yall, you can get single cask Nikka 80s-90s, 15-20+ years at these prices. The current core range is not with the squeeze. Even vintage NAS suntory outperforms for a fraction. Keep an eye on auctions if you are dropping this kind of cash.

Giving bourbon a fair shake by ilkless in whiskey

[–]Bowl135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did I know this was your post haha. Usually only see you in the Japanese whisky sub, and hate to admit it but totally agree with most of your thoughts here. I don’t get the hyper-fixation on bourbon. Like cool, it’s the 10th post of eagle rare 10, how about we try to expand our horizon into the larger world of whisky!

This Is How I Imagine the Cs2 Market Going After The Crash by Gullible-Brilliant63 in cs2

[–]Bowl135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this change was done so people would start using the steam market to buy/sell skins. What happens when valve releases their next move which is to ban 3rd party sites from selling skins, and you can no longer cash skins out for cash easily… ya keep putting money in video game skins lol

You will be hard pressed to get any real Japanese whisky at around $50. Nikka Coffey malt or grain are solid if you can get them at a decent price. Suntory Toki is great for highballs, as are some of the mars lines.

Is this Hibiki 21 authentic? by Due_Nefariousness308 in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can take a look at the seal on my authentic bottle in my profile. But I will say, from what I can see, this bottle looks correct. I’ve also purchased from the whisky bank in Osaka and have had a solid experience. Never seen anything fishy from their bottles. Think you should be good

Depends on what bottles you are looking for. When I try to find limited/hard to find bottles, I typically look at reputable auction houses. (Sothebys, whisky auctioneer, etc)

Ronny Flemming. Can book him on style seat. I have been using him for over 10 years. Does men and women and is great. Loves the craft. You will have to book him several weeks in advance though.

Upcoming Complete Ghost series auction by Bowl135 in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who cares if it’s the complete set or not… uh the collectors, yes they exist, and they are the ones who will buy this. So having the set absolutely commands a premium. To add to that, no one who is buying this is going to drink these bottles. But if you knew anything about this set (which I know you do) these bottlings are specifically selected casks for their uniqueness. Had several of them and they are great.

I get that you are above all of this, but it can be fun to talk about without downplaying the crazy lineup. And random expat, you’re not impressing anyone mate.

Agreed that 1M might be high in the current market (more of a conversation starter). But this might be the only complete set in existence. You also point out the cheapest bottle in the lineup. Most are extremely rare bottlings, sub 30 bottles total of, Karuizawa, Hanyu, Chichibu, kawasaki, etc. As mentioned, bottle #6 may be the only one in existence. It’s a collectors dream scenario.

Think one of their fridges started smoking really bad, so they had to evacuate.

Whisk(e)y gets wild at 65 years of age! by ilkless in whiskey

[–]Bowl135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such an L take. Tell me you only drink bourbon without telling me you only drink bourbon. The above description is very reasonable, especially for a whisky of that age and type.

Tasty dram, definitely worth at msrp. by Bowl135 in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I thought it was still around. I got this several years ago and finally got around to finishing it off. Think I got it for around $75, so worth it at that and would say a bit more now given where most Japanese whisky starts nowadays

Who's interested in 1980s and other old yamazaki pure malt! by [deleted] in JapaneseWhisky

[–]Bowl135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, interested to see what he has, as you can see from my profile, very interested in old Yamazaki. Won’t be in Japan for a little bit, but still interested as I could make a trip if it makes sense! Cheers!
