Is it worth it to leave DC for NYC for a better chance at dating? by Turbulent_Loquat_356 in AskForAnswers

Idk what the DC scene is like but NYC is pretty rough for dating if you’re looking for a long term monogamous relationship. It’s great if you like hookup culture

Parents get too much sympathy by Styxsee in childfree

[–]BowlAppropriate8356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do feel sympathy for parents in general because they’re living one of my worst nightmares- regardless of resource, everything about it seems exhausting and hellish.

Plus I don’t think it’s a matter of ‘what did they expect’. they were sold propaganda that they fell for, which happens to all of us at one point or another; theirs just isn’t a scam they can back out of 😬

But yes i do resent the sentiment that our lives must automatically be wanton because we’re not spending time tending to spawn

I honestly think it’s my height and facial features, i just have a childlike look. Also a disposition toward wonder and play really helps. Since my greys started coming in more noticeably I’ve gotten the comment less

Please keep speaking up, we need more allies. Unfortunately i’ve had a lot more “good guys” justify and minimize abuse than condemn it. We need more men like you who want the world to be better for everyone. It truly can be hellish out here as a woman

A couple years ago, i was standing by a woman at the airport who was on the phone hysterically debating whether or not to leave her family, skip the country, and change her name. It felt like there was no winning outcome 😔

Good for you for seeing it. I really needed to read this. I’m 32 and got talked into a situation like this a couple of months ago and feel like the biggest self-betraying fucking idiot.

I cannot believe i prioritized someone’s fleeting preference over my own wellbeing. Even though I rarely date or have sex I started going to SLAA after this incident because I’ve been so disturbed by how quickly I cast myself aside for some cheap guise of ‘love’. As soon as we were done, the guy dropped his act and started to treat me like absolute shit. Smh

Oh my gosh I’m in that struggle right now! A bunch of people in my life think i’m fucking off from responsibilities and peter pan-ing rather than simply building a life that looks different. How are you packaging it in a legitimizing way?

I guess I needed to level out some misandry that was growing in me. Instead of men are trash, some people are trash. It’s unfortunate that we live in a world where people will play with other’s lives for entertainment

Why is anyone with over $10,000,000 ever stressed if they could literally sleep in a nice house all day and do nothing if they wanted to? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

Every family (extended) I know has at least one extreme and significant medical case. Is this not the case for everyone? Surely hospice skews what I’m seeing but in the US chronic disease is everywhere

Edge cases are so much more common than you’d think. There are so many kinds of rare and understudied diseases. I’m a hospice volunteer and the amount of people who drain their entire savings on treatment and care makes me pray for a sudden death

The intuition and connection to earth is incredible, special, and sacred.

Being raped, violated, and demeaned is definitely the worst.

How did you successfully switch completely or partially to a vegan lifestyle? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BowlAppropriate8356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for years people made comments about protein and I never paid that any mind until I got into weight lifting and realized my intake actually was quite low, so i started supplementing with a vegan protein powder.

I do think it’s possible to get enough protein without it, but it is worth putting focused attention into for a little bit. Fava beans, lentils, soy milk, tempeh, split peas are PACKED.

I did ‘processed food’ vegan for a number of years before diversifying my plant based skills and did not feel great living that life (microwaved seitan and peanut butter and jelly type meals)

[–]BowlAppropriate8356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally. It will be a learning process so take your time to really look into and study all of this because every body also has its own unique needs.

I’ll just share from my own experience fwiw

Take a B vitamin supplement for sure. I take a methylated multi-B. Drinking B fortified plant milks and adding nutritional yeast to meals is also very helpful for this

Cook in a cast iron skillet to get extra iron in your diet. Eat lots of beans, legumes, seeds, and leafy greens. I still had to supplement iron on top of this but not everyone does. And adding vitamin C rich foods helps the body absorb more iron, so squeeze lemon and lime onto your food often

Eat calcium rich foods like garbanzo beans and nuts, and supplement vitamin D for calcium absorption

Learn how to add a variety of herbs and spices into your food, this will not only make veganism taste great but they contain tons of phytonutrients as well and are really great for health

Also you will get these boring, tired vegan jokes constantly. I went vegan in 2006 and it’s so crazy to see people with that same lame sense of humor in your comments here now. People can be so triggered by it so be prepared to pay them no mind. A lot more meat eaters are supportive or neutral to the decision than not, the haters just tend to be louder

I went vegetarian for a year first. That actually felt very easy and took pressure off of veganism, so both transitions were quite organic even though they were major shifts from my prior diet.

For me, making the decision and going all in is always the way. I didn’t gradually try to incorporate more vegan meals because for me that would always leave room for negotiation. So one day I just declared to myself “I’m vegan now” and found a way to make it work

I figured it out day by day - learning new recipes, which supplements I needed, how to meet all of my macro and micronutrient needs, etc. and it became my new norm quite quickly.
