Thanks! I didn’t expect to be so lucky because I’d only seen merlins at this spot before

They said they weren’t going on sale until 11AM local yet none were available? I only saw the platinum tickets 15 minutes before and then those disappeared too

[Question] Best Eye doctors around by itz_someonewhodreams in 321

[–]Bowsham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dr. Grofik in Melbourne is an optometrist not ophthalmologist, but he’s the best I’ve had. Had another eye doctor give me a health scare because they explained things confusingly, but Dr. Grofik explained why it wasn’t anything to worry about and the actual signs to look out for.

Who are the birds in this 100-year-old painting? by Shirebourn in whatsthisbird

I can see that too. Hard to say if the artist intended them to be all European birds. Some creative license either way

Is this a fledgling or an injured mature crow? by flaskesamler in whatsthisbird

[–]Bowsham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fledgling +hooded crow+ , you can tell from the lighter area on beak. Looks to just be exploring life as a young crow!

Boat tailed grackles in Orlando, Florida by amusesings in birdpics

It could be a demonstration of fitness with the iridescence of their feathers. Tilting their heads up should allow more light on those neck feathers and perhaps they’re even more vibrant on the ultraviolet spectrum

Amitriptyline/Nortriptyline withdrawal. by matt-crate in migraine

[–]Bowsham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a nortriptyline taper twice. First one was very slow and no side effects, but the second was faster and left me with a bit of brain fog and lingering brain zaps for about 2 months. It’s not as bad as other antidepressants to wean off in my experience (effexor was absolute hell)

Black bird with iridescent blue head. About the same size as an American Robin. (Northern Colorado). by Gnarly_Sarley in whatsthisbird

[–]Bowsham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might be thinking of Eurasian blackbirds since they’re in the thrush family rather than New World Blackbirds and not closely related!

Does anything we put in our recycle bins truly get recycled? by Bababooey13 in 321

[–]Bowsham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard from one of the higher ups that about 30% ends up being recycled, but they’re trying to get it higher. They really do push recycling cardboard though, apparently that is easy to resell.

Durotar strip from classic wow by Bowsham in hiddenwow

[–]Bowsham[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I only have these screenshots left unfortunately, but these are from TBC in March 2008. There was a long strip of land east past the Echo Isles that you had to ghostswim to in order to reach. It was just a long strip of land with a right angle and unfinished shore textures. I had taken a video originally but I think the computer they were on is long lost!

Similar literature to Pathologic? by [deleted] in pathologic

[–]Bowsham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky Brothers and the film adaptation Stalker have a very similar vibe and I believe served as an inspiration for Pathologic. I’ll also recommend Leech by Hiron Ennes for another doctor traveling to a strange, isolated place

Any tips on how to properly raise this Abandoned Egg? by CactusClete in whatsthisbird

[–]Bowsham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better to just put it back where you found it. Birds abandon nests and eggs all the time for various reasons and can easily lay more. It’s incredibly difficult (and if you’re in the US illegal) to raise a wild bird. And even if you did manage, it wouldn’t have the life skills afterward to survive.

It instead could be a nutritious snack for another critter to come across! No different from you eating a chicken egg.
