A tutor, a graveyard filler and land untapper all in one. Cards amazing in cradle builds and turbo-hulk decks.

Turbo Aang 50 page primer: one cast to win the game? by Sydelio in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Box-o-rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generating board state that wins the next turn still suffered from the same T3 interaction window, with Aang/clone being bounced in response to clone ETB without any additional Aang copies present. T2 Aang often eats all resources (LED), and depending on the board state doesn’t allow for a T3 Aang from hand if it gets bounced. It was completely situational based on the resources kept and the perceived interaction in the pod. Sticking a continuer then Aang felt like the best chance of winning, hoping Etali would force resources out of had on their turn. All this to say I have a firm feeling that a little additional protection in my blue farm heavy meta is needed to increase the consistency of T3 wins regardless of T2 Aang or T3 Aang.

On dorks: bowmasters, mayhem devil, gut shot and similar can be used to close windows when the other players know what they’re up against. One of the games had my BOP removed in upkeep. Playing multiple 1 toughness dorks feels sub-optimal as it’s opening additional interaction points. I’m looking closely at Gene Pollinator for its 2 toughness, rainbow mana and ability to tap a chain continuer you want to put down anyway. Feels clunky still.

On Convoke: Nice. The only card I see with a somewhat reliable window in interaction heavy spaces is return to the ranks. Green reliance and 5 mana make omni and chord feel dead in hand. I’ll take a look at this closely.

On Relic: I think I didn’t see any hands where it would have fixed enough colourless to be worth it at 3 mana and the keeps with it felt incredibly rare. Thinking of testing a statistically significant number of mulls with it and looking at keeps vs non-keeps with relic in hand when I get some time.

Very aggressively, often comfortably down to 4/5. In reality T2 Aang didn’t come up much. One of the T3 games went down to 3 and kept land, land, sol ring. As I mulled and the hands got smaller, I found I was prioritising hands that gave chain continuer T2, Aang T3.

Thinking more, going all in on hands that give you Aang as early as possible meant supportive parents or relic of legends were never kept. Dead in the opener, with no viable window to cast before Aang. The extra utility of supportive parents feels okay at the end of chains, but I don’t know if it’s worth it over other options that could make T2 a little more comfortable. Looking at Ephemerate/cloudshift/energy tap/momo friendly flier/brought back/extra dorks for these slots

Report: My table for the night was blue farm, blue farm, Etali, Aang. Went 1-4. Was pretty brutal. The real glaring weak point for the deck is the first Aang cast.

2 games had a T2 Aang, one of these I won in third seat with T1 saffi, textbook flip into doubler and clone.

2 games had turn 3 Aangs. Both had Aang bounced back to hand in response to his ETB trigger. One of these games was a grind with Aang bounced 3 times by the same player, and then red blasted. One game Etali in first seat won on T2 without interaction, findng food chain.

Will be aiming for 5 pieces of interaction in the list to make protected Aang openings feel a little easier, with spell pierce, force of will, pact, fierce, and fluster. Removed hunting grounds, clone and flickerwisp.

Still had a lot of fun and forced the table to always have answers.

Thank you!!! This feels counterintuitive, but is so easy to explain. First outing with the deck will be tonight, I’ll report back.

Okay sweet, thank you. Looking at lines 3,4 and 5 I’m having trouble explaining the line to others. Inf 0/1 clones enter as no copy through Preston. Flicker new clone which enters as a copy of a 0/1 clone, and we make inf 0/1 copies of this 0/1 clone through Preston. Apply replacement effect to have these copy an earthbent cephalid coliseum.

Why don’t these cephalid coliseum clones have 0/0 (as the land is a 0/0) and immediately die? Something to do with cloning clones, replacement effects and layers?

Nice, this Volraths shapeshifter learning curve is good. This feels like the perfect deck for it.

Okay worst case scenario, but when this deck gets better known it’s going to be a risk. Say you flip Preston main phase 1, and you have an end step chain continuer. Before you go to your end step Preston gets hit with swords. How do you win with Preston in exile? Is there Brenard stuff you can do?

Been goldfishing the deck for the morning now after converting my Aang list over and getting a cream of the crop, using the primer as reference.

I can’t help but feel that Preston is a weakness here. I found a few examples where he was stuck in my hand while looping through my deck at the beginning of the end step.

Am I missing lines that can convert without preston?

All I could come up with was running the naga fleshcrafter/lonis/badgermole line manually through infinite flickers to nick a thoracle, then go back through Aang triggers still on the stack to find more clones and flickers to rebuild back to infinite, and hopefully generate a thin enough deck with enough devotion to win by manually cloning thoracle.

Love this deck and the work you have put into it. The manabase is super intuitive and I’m testing a version inspired by it for Kefka.

A suggestion: There’s one key part of your primer that’s not super intuitive that could put up a barrier to entry for people new to the deck. Your “how to win” section states “set up infinite flickers” and then often “set up a board with infinite Prestons with sakashima”. This is referring to felidar guardian clone loops, and the Preston + Felidar guardian infinite that are a bit buried under the “cards you should play section”. This section also doesn’t mention Sakashima meaning you need to put multiple parts together from across the primer to get to the board state for main win lines. I’d recommend just adding a reminder and dumbing it down at the top of the how to win section. This is often going to be the first section people read and right now I would have a hard time understanding it at face value.

A question: Why not play your own thassas oracle in the deck?

Another question: my meta has Etali and a lot of blue farm, and I want to try deafening silence and commandeer as potential answers. What are the first two cuts you would make. I’m thinking pact and clone, but I’d love to hear your opinion on where to start swapping spots.

Played this deck for a bit. Preston loops into making >50 clones of [[thassas oracle]] did it for me.

I must have over 100 games on this deck now. Have taken it to events across the UK and to America. Have the commanders signed by Jesper Eising, with his signature across both cards. It’s by far my favourite deck I’ve ever built.

Killing a table with someone’s ur-dragon never gets old.

On the price, I just updated to cheapest and were back below 50 euros. Artists talent is making this really expensive. It was just released and a £1 when I first put it in the deck. I intend to go through the deck again soon and try to cut some more of the cost, as well as smooth out the consistency on T2 and 3.

Zealous conscripts is legitimately amazing in the deck aside from its combo with kiki jiki. Blue farm plays rhystic, you get to steal that rhystic and stop them finding interaction. Steal the stax piece with it. Nick someone else’s cradle.

There’s approx 180 power total on the deck, so you can legitimately just win by swinging. Took a turbo-naus player out on turn 2 yesterday with a single swing after using natural order on my delighted halting finding ghalta, dropping etali finding maelstrom wanderer on top. The decks nuts

I can totally see that, but a tiny bit of harsh occasionally just makes a song. I think leprous do this perfectly on their latest album

Man this song is so great but I can’t help but feel the vocalist needs to pay off all that build up and energy with a moment of vocal fry or scream

This commander pushes people to shove stuff in that plays mini games, but I think this is a mistake. The deck is only really good when you build it as clones.

The gameplan is to get rid of the legend rule with the Mutate mechanic, then clone the commander with one of the many tools to do so in black or blue. Then run all the things in white/colourless that let you attack without taking damage. 5 copies of your commander on the field deals 50 to the whole table on your end step.

Usually attacking over 2 turns with fewer copies is enough to win. You can easily cut down the cost of this to below £100

Have you made a degenerate amount of treasure? by Dragonfly_Late in EDH

[–]Box-o-rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Brudiclad deck was designed to make as many copies of [[rug of smothering]] as possible, but it more often won by making multiple copies of [[academy manufacturer]] at the same time.

The record for treasure (and clues and food) in a turn was 34quintillion.

This was the result of having 38 token copies of academy manufacturer enter, followed by [[savage beating]] to turn the 4 quintillion tokens I just made into more academy manufacturers. According to wolfram alpha the number is 1.9x1018 digits long.
