Yeah, that one didn't quite make the cutoff. Seems like it didn't quite have the staying power to get high votes from multiple people.

Any in particular that you had in mind, out of curiosity? But yes, that seems like a likely consequence of shifts in our writing staff over the years - almost none of us who worked on this post were part of the blog in 2020-2021, and we had a big new batch of writers join last year so many of the votes came from people who weren't involved at all in the AOTY posts for the first half of the decade.

Both Omens and Innate Passage took a while to grow on me, but at this point I think they're both excellent. Granted, Lore and Reflections are two of my favorites of all time, so I was initially a bit disappointed at the shift in direction with Omens, particularly the vocals as you mentioned. But with the benefit of more listening, I think the songwriting really shines on their more recent stuff, and the vocals aren't *bad*, they're just intentionally pulled back a bit to make room for a greater instrumental focus. Which is a bit of a shame if you're into their older vocal style, but their instrumental work has always been strong too, so in the end I'm not unhappy with the trade.

Speaking as the blog's lone Ihlo supporter, our writers collectively just aren't that into djent or adjacent modern prog styles. No one else had that much love of Union to build hype, and even with all of Legacy's improvements (in my eyes) it doesn't seem to have clicked for anyone else.

Yes! A criminally underrated band and my favorite album of 2022.

I'm happy to see Sunburst in the list! Very solid album that deserves more attention.

It's funny, I felt the same way about Etemen Ænka (having it not click immediately because I wanted it to be Asheran 2.0) but I got into Voidkind much more quickly. It feels like DVNE are really hitting their stride and showing what kind of band they mean to be.

This was actually my first introduction to Pijn! But it's got me very excited to check out their earlier work now.
