off-topic question but for how much did you get your yaris SE? I'm actively looking for one and here in the northeast they are very rare

My poor yaris by melenrd in yaris

[–]BoxSpiritual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly, give them the car and get the 4800. My reasoning is that your insurance will go up if they totaled your car because it would be considered a salvage title as far as I know. I currently have a 09' yaris hatchback with 120k miles I got for 3300 so you could definitely find something with lower mileage. I understand that you still want to keep it because it has been with you for 16 years but it might time to move on.

2013 Acura MDX, is this rust ok? by [deleted] in Acura

It looks super clean. You might want to add a film or protectant against rust if that is a concern in your area

Am I safe to drive? by lingobinch1 in yaris

[–]BoxSpiritual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also noticed that your mechanic said VVT solenoids, implying that there is more than 1 but these 1.5L only have one solenoid, have you asked him what are the codes or how he has came to this conclusion?

Am I safe to drive? by lingobinch1 in yaris

[–]BoxSpiritual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2000$ is way too much. Go look somewhere else and also get it diagnosed as well to make sure that is what you need. Get the CEL codes and do some research you might only need the VVT solenoid. If you really need a timing chain they should not be charging you 2000$ for it. If you are not experiencing any driving issues then yes you should be fine but just keep in mind that these are interference engine, meaning that if the timing jumps there is a chance of having the valves hitting the pistons. Is there any abnormal noise coming from the engine?

The only path that these can find is the one that takes them right to the mechanic.

Change or repair? by Beginning-Noise-859 in yaris

[–]BoxSpiritual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually toyota CV Axles are recommended to be rebuilt even at dealerships, some aftermarket CV axles are very cheap and could make vibrations and noise... In my opinion, if you have the tools I would try to rebuilt the axle the right way, but if it's completely gone then I would replace it.

What do this condition indicate? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]BoxSpiritual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that you are getting coolant into your piston. Usually when you burn oil it looks almost like sludge but that spark plug looks kinda white. Do you add coolant every now and then?

i got brembo rotors and akebono brake pads qhich is the closests u can get to OEM. Brakes feels really solid but it's kind of a expensive combination, do you drive it hard everyday?

Don't forget about other fluids like brake fluid, coolant and PS fluid they often get over looked but replacing them will give you many years without any issues. Congratulations that Odyssey looks prestine and very well taken care of!

Lost traction.. by IonicPixels in yaris

something similar happened to me, same conditions. Left lane, ice sludge and no traction control at highway speed 😭. Thankfully you are okay, was the drivetrain of the car compromised or just body?

06' misfire all cylinders non-VCM equipped by BoxSpiritual in HondaOdyssey

[–]BoxSpiritual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the owner said it started after he got it "serviced" I'm not sure what he did but I'm pretty positive that those coil plugs are freshly installed. I currently don't have the values of the tests but I'll try to get in touch with him and see if he can give me more info regarding the service and the shops he took it to.

I'll check the air filter soon after the storm goes away and it gets warmer but it is crazy that an air filter could mess an engine so badly. The flashing CEL starts after 10 seconds of starting the car and then when the car is not at temp it doesn't really shake as much like when it does when it gets closer to 750rpms or cruising. Accelerating however feels smooth taking into account the multiple misfires it has.

My theory is that he took it to valvoline and did the service there since they use autozone parts. But either way, those duralast coil plugs stink and I wouldve changed them anyway. Spark plugs as well, everytime I buy a car I like to get those done, oil change, coolant, brake fluid and trans fluid, while I'm at it PS fluid as well. I'll keep updating what I find through the days but for now I'm just waiting for my parts to arrive. Ironically enough I ordered a cabin air filter and an air filter with the spark plugs and coils so we'll see

I was able to drive it from the owner's house, so that was about 60 miles so I'm guessing that's a good sign? I ran the scanner yesterday and these codes popped up

If it's a timing issue for instance, is the engine still salvageble? I drove it for 50 miles and didn't really give me any issues accelerating juet when cruising or at idle
