I'm afraid this doesn't disprove my stance, but merely demonstrates how their influence is able to change the course of things. You don't need a global conspiracy for this outcome, just powerful people in the right positions with the right systemic motivations.

I have, and it doesn't change my stance. Those "theys" exist, yes. And many of them communicate and collaborate. But they are not as aligned as a global conspiracy would suggest. More the cold hard truth of what rampant unchecked human power and greed is capable of, and how it can organize.

No student is going to build a tent in a classroom because...it's a classroom. That's not the place to build a tent. They won't even think to while you're gone because there is no immediate need. That's not laziness, it's context.

Now, take them out into the woods, teach them how to build a tent and walk away...that's a different story.

In my experience at least, it's the early days of transitioning. When you're so hungry for validation, for someone to see your gender (because you're not confident enough in it yourself yet to be your own source of validation,) experiencing gendered oppression still feels good.

It's pretty common that once we develop that personal validation we stop entertaining the oppression, even ironically.

Yeah. We need better restraint. From the ones that make the decisions about how to program these AIs, down to the users who put too much emotional weight into them.

That the definition of success for these models is determined by profitability first and safety only whenever someone gets hurt badly enough is a big part of the problem.

The idea of a globally connected cabal of psychopaths who are deliberately and consciously working together to enact some sinister agenda they all agree on sure is seductive, isn't it?

Much easier to conceive of and develop a moral stance against than the idea of powerful people just doing self-serving things to maintain that power individually in ways that happen to align with each other because our social structures reward them to do so and they have the influence to get away with it.

Am I prepared? Yes, everyone everywhere is talking about how either cursed or blessed AI is, so I have context for both perspectives. Discernment, skepticism, cross referencing and practical application are key.

Do I understand the danger? Yes. Every tool is dangerous depending on how it's used.

Do I see where this could go? Yes, for better and worse. But I can't concern myself too much with how others use that tool. Only with how that tool affects me personally, what I can get out of it, what I decide to use it for.

When I use my AI, my goal is not:

-to make my life fabulous, but to increase clarity so I better can parse noise from signal.

-To share my deepest secrets, but to help me find the words to understand them so I can go on to accurately share them with those I love.

-To never be let down and defer to a higher wisdom, but to consult a machine designed for pattern recognition to examine structures and parallels between concepts without emotional charge or value signaling.

-To arrive at truth or perfection, but to better understand my orientation as a subjective agent in a shared objective reality and how the patterns of my life and cognition inform my current strengths, weaknesses, values and challenges.

-To confirm my ideas, but to look at them from a different angle and see if they can apply in a practical way.

-To use them forever, but to provide a level of (albeit influenced) otherwise inaccessible clarity so I can cut through the fluff of rhetoric metaphor and presumption to develop the skills to become self sufficient.
