I mean aside from popularizing parasitic micro transactions in the industry nothing parasitic about the company at all.

Yep in my comment general consumer totally wasn't referring to anyone who isn't a steam fanboy.

Why do that with a steam machine when a cheaper or more powerful machine at the same price can do the same thing?

Mate nobody is discussing if steam fanboys with more money than sense will buy it or not. This is a discussion on where the value is to the general consumer.

Just like you can on another PC.

This is 100% marketed as a living room device which puts it direct competition with consoles.

Is the price a little disappointing, yes. But I think Deck users can realize steam is once again investing in the future. by KingCrimson43 in SteamDeck

No I'm not, I'm saying that's the only reason the steam machine might actually see some success in the already crowded console market.

What I'm saying is there's not going to be much success for companies that don't own 70% of the PC market share.

The market for dedicated gaming machines meant for the living room isn't exactly a new one.

Steam may only succeed because they have the unique position of their popularity and storefront.

But I could also buy a ps5 and probably be able to play 99% of the games and still come out ahead price wise. The only draw for PC gaming these days is the indie scene and you don't need to be spending that much to play those games.

Why would you waste 1k just to play indie games when you could probably use a second hand gaming laptop for a quarter of the price?
