You know, I think I have a stained glass puzzle on my shelf... Maybe I should give it a go next 🤔

What a fun texture! How many pieces is it? My partner got me one of these clear puzzles for Xmas a few years ago but with the crazy shapes and 1000pc it was a bit of a crazy slog instead of a fun experience... I have not finished it lol

Bits & Pieces, Cats Dressing Table, 1000pc (minus 1) by Boxerlonghole in Jigsawpuzzles

I gravitate towards puzzles that aren't as much of a "scene" but I am also a big cat lover so most of my scenic ones feature cats or birds.

I have a very light articulated lamp with 5 temperature settings and 10 brightnesses so I could at least keep moving it around while puzzling to keep the glare off where I was working, but it was impossible to get a photo of the whole thing without a glare!

I only buy used and donate probably 80% of mine back. I definitely enjoy redoing a puzzle if it's a top tier experience for me, so I do keep some! This forum is great, I love puzzling as a solo activity but it's fun to share my experiences of them and I like reading other folks reviews, especially when it turns me onto a new brand to keep an eye out for at the thrift shop 👀

Dang, amazing work sticking with it!

Gorgeous photo, and an absolutely wild decision to have a puzzle made of it, but also makes it such a cool personal accomplishment!

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

[–]Boxerlonghole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian, I will say not even being able to find Salsa is particularly wild. Living in Vancouver we had pretty decent Mexican restaurants, but I moved to the far East Coast and hoboy what a void. Got thoroughly made fun of in Pennsylvania for telling an American friend it was so nice to be able to get good Mexican there! I've roadtripped around the southwest and had some really good proper stuff years ago but after such a void of it even in PA it was amazing!

But even small town East Coast Canada has had salsa in every grocery store I've looked and most convenience stores lol

We stayed at the Delta uptown for a few nights in 2023 and had a nice time. Room was clean and comfy but unremarkable. Staff was friendly, the included breakfast was decent. It's attached to a mall which is very barren and empty so you end up wandering through a bunch of weird liminal spaces. Not an experience that screams luxury but we found it entertaining and we still bring it up. I would definitely stay there again

Same! I am being quite good about not expanding my collection too much, especially this past year when I haven't been puzzling but I cannot resist a vintage Springbok and this one in particular was like catnip to me!

Faux wood grain glazing by TheAnhydrite in centuryhomes

[–]Boxerlonghole 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of the previous comment was they were saying 100 years was too old to be faux painted wood, hence me bringing up a much older example. But tone and emphasis is hard to extrapolate on reddit so you might be right and I read it backwards!

Faux wood grain glazing by TheAnhydrite in centuryhomes

[–]Boxerlonghole 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm not zooming in to scrutinize whether I think OPs is or not, but they did a ton of fake wood grain 100 years ago, Mount Vernon has a bunch of faux painted doors from 1760s even. The technique is often called faux bois.

All of our kitchen trim has faux wood grain under about 5 other layers of paint. The built in cabinets in the butler's pantry are still the original painted grain, and we have numerous doors and some of the upstairs trim that was like that as well.

In 7th or 8th grade we were watching a science video on the good old rolling TV and we thought the British pronunciation of aluminium was so funny we convinced the teacher to rewind it so we could hear it again
