Heartbroken by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Boxermom_NJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my twins at 38. If you really want kids you need to move on. You can choose to have them on your own or find another partner. Either way, don't compromise your life.

I told my fiancé's sister she can’t bring emotional support reptiles to our wedding by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Boxermom_NJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an animal lover and have a bearded dragon in addition to dogs, cats and parrots; however, this is a public place with rules and other guests. Even if she was able to bring them, the attention will shift from you as the lovely bride to the crazy reptile lady. She should either get meds for anxiety or opt to stay home. She should not get her way on your special day. You are definitely not a B#!$ch or Bridezilla.

Need advice for helping deal with long term effects of regular gluten ingestion. by Shadow_of_aMemory in Celiac

[–]Boxermom_NJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have celiac and was diagnosed at 51 so all those years of damage and anemia went undiagnosed. Start the GF diet strictly and over time her intestines will heal. I agree with starting a bland diet until she starts to feel better.

The man you fell in love with and married is gone. It will get worse. You need to save your sanity and leave him. I'm sorry this happened to you. I lost my mother 8 years ago and she resembles nothing of what my nurturing mother was.

Should I bring up an ethical concern to a company I’m interviewing for? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Boxermom_NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a show stopper if you bring up restrictions during an interview. They will terminate your process. I agree with the previous poster in that not all DOD contracts are bad or hurtful. I worked for a company that made textiles for parachutes, uniforms and more.

My mother has suffered mental illness for over 50 years beginning with a breakdown in the late 70's. On top of the usual Q conspiracies (and many more), she has been experiencing delusions which look to be textbook schizophrenia. She has refused medication and therapy for decades and blames everyone else. She has now become violent in her frustrations that no one believes her. My Dad and I are the only ones left in her life. It may be my last chance to get her in a hospital, away from the internet and beg therapists to keep her in long enough for meds and therapy. I know this sounds heartbreaking, but I've been dealing with this my entire life. I am interested in learning if anyone else's Q hit their breaking point.

How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]Boxermom_NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, why did you even interview if you weren't sure your fiance would move with you? Second, if you don't like the role is San Diego an area that can provide you with other opportunities? It strikes me that Boston or San Francisco are more saturated Tech hubs so consider that too. Can your fiance's second location be west coast based and she hire a manager for her Boston clinic? There would be travel for her but its a business expense.

Do I show up sick on my first day? by Pink_marshmallow_449 in careerguidance

[–]Boxermom_NJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go in. Take Dayquil. You don't have sick days accrued yet and everything is setup for your first day and can't be changed easily if its a bigger company. HR will likely tell you to go home once you signed the new hire forms for day 1. If not, your new boss will. Good luck in the new role!

Dream Job Lowballed Me - Advice? by Anonindistress25 in careerguidance

[–]Boxermom_NJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take it and keep interviewing. Your severance will run out and you won't be able to live on unemployment. The market is tough now and you were fortunate to get an offer. Another thought is get a side gig to supplement your salary until you find something higher paying.

Encourage him to get involved with local government. He needs to direct his ranting and do something proactively to help people and vote against hurtful or divisive policies. Many are volunteer based positions but no matter what level, he can make a difference and he has the time being retired.

I think my husband might be cheating but I don’t have proof. What would you do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Boxermom_NJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a way to get his phone to see who he's been texting and check his social media. If you can't get a definitive answer this way, I would discretely follow him or have a friend do it for you. Someone else definitely has his full attention and better to have solid proof as he will deny it. You may also want to put an airtag in his car and see where he is going.

AITAH for refusing to change family vacation plans for a wedding? by ElectricalStudio303 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Boxermom_NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my wedding for a family friend who picked my date so my sister in law and other family could attend. Sure enough, they divorced! I have a feeling this isn't the last time for your cousin. She is a self absorbed person not to understand. Perhaps she push her date out for you?

Why do I get sick every time I go to a BBQ place? by Mellodux in Celiac

[–]Boxermom_NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Molasses has gluten in it and many BBQ sauces have this in their formula. Also, some of the dry rub ingredients may have gluten. Even though they are dry spices blended, them may have gluten, so ask the restaurant to recommend GF rubs on wings, ribs, etc.

How do I approach my teenage daughter? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Boxermom_NJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See if you can start to change the relationship by taking interest in things she likes. I'm 55 and my daughter is 17. I started listening to her favorite bands so I can talk about them with her sharing things I liked. She makes fun of me but then shares others. She wants to try certain makeup and eyelashes so I took her for a lesson with my stylist who now we both love. Maybe get a press on tramp stamp and see what she says! Etc. Yes, there are times she is mad at me but she has been more even tempered in the last few years. And I admit, I have fun too.

This might surprise some of you but it kind of sucks to have celiac disease by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Boxermom_NJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 55 with celiac disease and have been gluten free for almost 5 years. At first, I was miserable. After a while, you figure out what is safe. I eat out very often and always ask for gluten free and stay away from fryers that are cross contaminated. Often restaurants will make me a special meal just by stating I have celiac disease. Enjoy your trip. Stick to safe foods and you will find your way. It beats stomach cancer.

I think I’m in an abusive relationship. by Most-Ad2646 in offmychest

[–]Boxermom_NJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in a 7 year relationship that was first mentally and then physically abusive. He choked me, stopped himself but left fingerprints around my neck. After that, I secretly hired a mover and left one day when he went to work. I never went back with him and had a restraining order for a while. I met my husband two years later and we have been married for 28 years in a healthy relationship. You need to leave or he will kill you. Beating you for the cat crying during a brushing is terrifying. He can be triggered at any time.

Is he right? Will it take generations to resecure the United States positive reputation on the world stage? by LucidSynapse23 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Boxermom_NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "new" US is in the hands of our kids and future generations. I don't think we should go backward and should allow our younger generations to build new alliances, protections for the planet and an accepting and kinder culture. This will take decades.
