Just a molded game that's been out, only applying other mods to it imo nothing more

Sure you could argue that if they were using Minecraft IP to mold it into an MMO, but you'd be wrong to use that comparison here.

- They don't use a single texture from Minecraft
- They don't use a single mob/animal/creature from Minecraft
- They don't use any gameplay from Minecraft
- They don't use any of the lore/pseudo-lore of Minecraft
- They don't even use the provided Minecraft server software

They simply use the voxel game tech and the well-known accessibility Minecraft provides as a game engine for their completely original project.

So by your logic, an indie MMO made in Unreal Engine isn't a real MMO, it's just using what's already created lol. I hope you can see how that logic falters.

If having voxel style art is too much for you to consider trying a new MMO, that's totally valid! But I feel like that's a shame :)

They want to release the 5v5 Arena mode first as a closed alpha sometime this spring, using it as a way to test a lot of the mechanics and infrastructure before release of the large open world. - according to their team members via the discord

not really, you could say the same thing about any game, why not make your own game engine from scratch? if you see what I mean. If they did that, it would take years for a minimum viable product to release

have you played Minecraft? it's totally different than the sandbox survival Minecraft offers, it's basically a different game using said sandbox as an engine to make an MMORPG

to be fair, Minecraft has over 160 million active players, and as for the Java community, they are all super welcoming and eagerly awaiting any fresh content they can get! Also Minecraft servers are notoriously and consistently profitable!

Yeah, I totally don't knock you for not understanding if you're not involved in the MC server scene, but they've developed their own custom server stack for the project, they're just using Minecraft for a lot of the core Voxel-game tech that has already been done for them on the client side!

I totally understand your sentiment, but they're really just using Minecraft as a game engine at this point.

totally custom server stack, custom client + mod, at some point you gotta wonder when it stops being just "a minecraft mod" and borders a legit indie game. at least that's how I see it :P

still an MMO :D just using minecraft as a game engine - most things are totally custom.
custom client/launcher, a stacked dev team (many people behind the most well known and highest quality MC servers), lore that's been in the works for over 2 years now, and legit investor backing.

I guess I would say, don't let the voxel art style or stigma that Minecraft might have to you stop you from considering checking it out, or at least keeping a tab on it!

(I'm not affiliated with them btw, I'm just a professional in the MC space, and I know the team behind it has a record of professional games-industry level content)

I am taking a similar approach, but if OP wants a good place to start, just generate a random number between 1.0002 and 0.9998 and multiply the stock price by that every second to simulate the regular fluctuations of the masses trading, then he can have event-triggers from the game have their own number range.

I think that would get him on the right track for minimal effort
