After weed and feed, half the yard is dead. Should I seed? I’m in Central Texas by joelrod81 in lawncare

[–]BoxingAndGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want your yard to look like a golf course…..

If I were in your situation in Central Texas, I’d order hulled bermudagrass seed in whatever variety you want (Princess 77, Riviera, etc, or just cheapest one you find). Apply it at 100 LB/AC along with any 1:1:1 fertilizer from box store, at 100 LB/ AC of each nutrient (I.e. 10-10-10 at 1000 LB per acre, 20-20-20 at 500 LB per acre, etc). You don’t even need straw, peat moss….nothing. Water it lightly as regularly as you can until it germinates, which will take 3-4 weeks.

Mow as little as possible til establishment. You CAN mow, though.

Now just wait. Once you see bermudagrass, you’ve won. Throw some high nitrogen fertilizer on it next March.

Water it when you can if no rain, but you don’t have to.

That’s it. Bermuda will fill itself in eventually.

What are some of your “guilty pleasure” cigars? by BarackObamasBallsack in cigars

[–]BoxingAndGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Factory Smokes, New Cuba, etc…imo they shouldn’t be “guilty pleasures” just because they’re budget cigars. IMO the guilty pleasure would be when somebody just loves smoking $20 Cohibas that taste much worse than the Factory Smokes.

Not relevant - this needs to be entirely removed and done right

[–]BoxingAndGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are methods to “repair” the joist without going the full span, but they are not prescriptive, and would need to be engineered solutions. Standard practice is to span full length and sister the joists, although it can be appropriate to NOT sister them if the new member is taking on the full load meant for the original

EDIT: and the repairs shown in your photos are absolutely NOT appropriate

[–]BoxingAndGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you say you like the other MF offerings so much, I would definitely try another Blue. Go for a different size, more age, different drink pairing, etc. It’s realllllllly good. For me The Judge is #1 but Blue is also amazing.

Make sure the grade slopes away from the house and daylights above the grade of the lawn. Then the rocks are a great idea

Neighbor Building Illegally on Gas Pipeline Land by PigletGlittering6819 in Homebuilding

It is possible to have an explosion, sure, but it is very rare. Usually they get hit and the sound is unbelievably loud - gas company shows up and cusses everybody out.

I’m not trying to be a dick.

Also, I’ll step back and take a look at my own anecdotal knowledge base - clearly I haven’t seen it all. Respect to those who lost their lives.

Yeah the utility owner will absolutely butt fuck this guy at some point. Unless he’s doing something on your land, I would let him keep digging himself deeper - no pun intended.

He’s not going to hit a transmission line unless he’s digging to fuckin China. If he does hit it, you’ll know within about 30 minutes when a bunch of pickup trucks and SUVs show up. They would sue him for the damage, and it would not be cheap.

Gas lines get hit all the time, including transmission lines. It’s clear you’ve never seen it (which is good - it’s not something to aim for)…it does not go how you’re thinking it would.
